Are there good internets providers in Taiwan? Are they only in Taipei? Is the Cable more like DSL there? Most important questions, require answers now!

I haven't ever had a need to set up my own internet connection here, but high-speed internet is available all over the country. As far as I can tell, you can't get higher than 8Mbs. My provider is HiNet DSL, and it's about $16/month for 8Mbs with discounts for long contracts.

Thankee Sai for the response, and I'm guessing your ping is horrendous in most cases?

Hrm, at my family's apartment we run on DSL. Its okay for web pages, but ping on games rarely wanders south of 80. I do know that Fiber is available in Taipei, so if your in the area theres that.

Yeah, I just checked, and Chunghwa Telecom (which owns HiNet) also offers fiber optic internet. The fastest is 100Mbs at $32/month, but you must sign up for a minimum of two years: http://www.cht.com.tw/CHTFinalE/Web/Personal.php?CatID=898

    |EDIT| Where are you planning on living?

Also, your best bet for any questions relating to Taiwan is probably here: http://forumosa.com/taiwan/
