That's exactly how I feel. I've got only high-level characters in Warcraft... and it's unappealing because I have no one to play with and no interest in raiding (or taking on a full-time job as a raider)
I'd love to rid myself of the account and start over... but yeah...
I'm in a similar situation, except that I'm currently in a raiding guild, but starting to lose interest in it (again). However, I will say that there is stuff to do besides raiding, not the least of which is simply running heroics for emblems, and then buying Heirloom gear to twink out your lower level alts and make the levelling grind far less painful.
Plus, with 3.2 you get a mount at 20, so while the Barrens might still be painful, Stonetalon and beyond will be omg so much less horrific.
Or, y'know... play Aion. I'm really leaning towards that.
I was under the impression that the pre-order was nonrefundable... Also, in order to get it from NCSoft, you have to prepurchase, not just preorder. At least, that's my understanding. I didn't do either, so I can't be 100% certain. Unexplained free beta key FTW!
Here's what I did: I went to Best Buy, and on the shelf they had thin game cases of Aion. It was a pre-order thingy, but inside was a card with the beta-key right on it. It cost me $5, and I got into the last beta event and will continue to get into the others.
Can I get the $5 back if I don't like the game? I'm not sure, but honestly I'm not even going to try. The money was well worth getting to try the game for a bit and ultimately decide if I wanna plunge more money into yet another MMO. And if I do decide to buy, hey... $5 cheaper for 30 more days of deciding.
I played this last weekend (after finally getting Windows 7 to work, I think they fixed it in an update.) And now I cant stop thinking about this game.
It was that good. All the feeling I had when I first started playing WoW has come flooding back... it's crazy. I log on to WoW and I just sit there and think about Aion. I have no desire to raid for loot becuase I'd rather be playing a different game all together. And any progess in WoW is going to mean nothing come Aion.
I CANNOT wait until September. Even thinking of changing my vacation dates from August so I can devote more time.
Sigh....
Any word on a PA legion?
Limed because I've been feeling the same way. I'm also very sad that the next beta event isn't until next week.
I'd love to get in on a PA Legion day 1. I will certainly be owning this game and playing the crap out of it.
Wife and I would also be interested in a PA legion most likely.
Between LOTRO and BlazBlue, I haven't really had a lot of time to invest in this, but I do have the Chinese version with the English pack, and I did give the game a whirl. So far, it's very enjoyable and gorgeous, but newbie island can be rather boring. I assume the game picks up after then?
Yeah, it picks up quite a bit once you hit 10 and choose your final class. After that, most classes come into their own around 16, when you begin to have a number of combos to choose from.

I think they gave some out to everyone who played Tabula Rasa. Did you do that?

To everyone who is interested in a PAA Legion in Aion!
There has been all but zero talk about Aion in the PAA chats in game, and there are no threads talking about Aion in the official forums. So that means that there is currently no plans to make an "Official Legion" in the game so far. But I don't think that we need things to be Official if it's still the Closed Beta. Therefore I will announce my intent to make TWO semi-possible-in-the-future-official Guilds in the Closed Beta, and if there is interest in the Pre-Launch event.
Assuming that the final game shall be PvP oriented and mixing of Factions for a player on one server is forbidden like in WoW, WAR, and other RvR games the Guilds will be split by Realm amongst two servers.
Server: Siel (sp?)
This server shall be home to the Elyos players, not only are we the pretty and popular kids in the high school with acne free faces, but we're the fancy-pants do gooders who follow the code of gritty and violent justice! Call us < The Sorcelators >!
Server: The other one with the long name. Shabadoo or something.
Violence and revenge is the answer, and common sense for an Asmodian! We have lurked in the darkness and even though we left our Wolfoids in the shop getting detailed, we bring our wrath to battle! We are < The Witchaloks >!
Barring any profound disagreements, let this be the official splitting of the Factions so we do not get any orphans. Also, if people can think of better guild names then I would be proud to hear them. We got a week until the next open after all. Anyone who wishes to get brought into the Guilds, please send me a PM through the forum, and have the names of characters compiled by the next Beta event.
Also, question to people who have played the Chinese or Korean version. It has been said that botters are buying accounts on full servers because they cannot get in any other way. Is that an account limitation or a character count limitation? If I make one character on a Launch server, play to 30 and say "I want an alt!" and try to make another on the same server, would I be able to or would it be refused because of crowding issues?

That's me strangling the fuck out of you over the internet for getting my hopes up.
I hope you die in a fire, and your remains are subsequently launched into orbit, disintegrated by the sun, and are sucked into a black hole, never to be seen again.
If one was to hypothetically inquire about the ability to play Chinese Aion and how one would hypothetically get this setup and running, could someone hypothetically help me out? (Or is it even worth it.)
A step-by-step guide on downloading the chinese open-beta client, patching it to the current release version, setting up your account, and installing the english client's language pack, so you can play the game in english. Bear in mind that it's going to be slightly laggy, considering the servers are in China, but it works.

Pretty sure you're still able to. I mean, I only have one character, but several empty character slots.
I am sad to see the realm picks because my races are opposite to that which you have chosen. My asmo's are on Siel and my Elyo'ses are on Asraphel. This is all subject to change once the retail relaeases but for now it is what it is.

Oops. I accidentally had a lot of fun with this on newbie isle last night. I joined a small group of chinese players, who I couldn't understand, and we proceeded to just kill anything in sight while doing our quests at the same time. I am extremely happy that if I wanted to, I could just give questing the finger, grab a buddy or two, and go and just grind to my heart's content. I'm hoping it'll be even more rewarding when the enemies are more than just two-dot mobs.
for the chinese thing, where are, uh.. the english speaking people
that guide says "pick the last one" but there's four items on the server list in the picture there but like 20 when i look. and then after the crazy language list there's servers named in not-crazy language
Uh, at the launch thing try the server that says "九 something something" and then pick Azariel or whatever once you're logged in. From my experience, that's the least laggy one.

Is it wrong that I am playing a foreign language game because I'm bored of WoW and cant wait for the English release of Aion?
I would be too, I just don't want to burn out on Aion before it comes out. If it's gonna get wiped twice between now and launch...
Azariel barely has any lower-level players playing, and it gave me the most ridiculous packet loss ever.
Azariel is the one where a lot of the english speaking players rolled originally on the chinese open beta but its a P2P server now so you'll only get 7hrs or so free time there to try it out and yep its fairly advanced in terms of age. What you're best doing is selecting the very bottom server region and using the freebie servers. These are basically free to play trial servers however you can only make a max of about 4 chars over all 3 servers in this cluster (to obviously encourage people to pay and go on the proper servers). I played Aion originally in the chinese open beta and I still play now and then on the freebie servers but I tend to avoid them purely because I still want the game to be fresh when it launches here.
I'm also making an EU Asmodian guild as well if anyones interested as there doesn't appear to be much in the way of official PA guilds atm. Atm we're an Asmodian legion called NomNomNom on Azphael(?) forgotten the beta server names but its the longer names EU one but when it switches to live/open beta we'll be using the proper legion name Ravenous, webby's in progress here - http://ravenous-eu.guildlaunch.com/ So if anyone's interested drop and app and just mention PA on the app.
A step-by-step guide on downloading the chinese open-beta client...
Thanks for posting that link! I'm not clear on exactly what is happening since this was released in China months ago yet I didn't have to give out any cc or email information and could join any server. 14-day trial or something? The lack of any filtering mechanism would explain the insane gold spam.
First impressions:
This game is a close second to WoW in polish. Combat is tight and responsive but a little lacking in oomph. UI or something? I dunno, getting occasional Guild Wars flashbacks. Anyway it's the first game since WoW where the combat feel is good enough that I don't think about it. Amazing engine efficiency, graphics are very good but there's more mediocre-looking stuff than I was thinking from screenshots. Music is ok, combat music is annoying as is the weapon sheathing mechanism. And I can't wait for the mute character option.
Bottom line, every mechanic in the solo PVE game so far seems incredibly standard other than some bizarre monster names and deeper HP/MP pools. Leveling is well done but as someone who finally reached 100% burnout on WoW just a few months ago there's absolutely nothing new that is capturing my interest. If it weren't for the promise of flying and an actual working pvp endgame (!!!) I'd be done by now.
I'm thinking I'll wait for the NA beta next weekend and try to hit 20 and do some PVP, since I sure as shit am not doing the solo PVE to 20 *three* times. 20 should be doable in a hardcore weekend, right?
1-10 takes me about 2hrs now though done it a few times already on the betas so you're prob looking at more like 4-5 for your first ones, 10-20 takes a lot longer but easily doable in 2 days worth of play. The game 1-10 is pretty generic really, it doesn't really take off till later, 16+ for the more interesting skills and then 25+ for abyss access which will be available this coming weekend in the EU/US CB4. The other interesting stuff that happens is th lvl 20+ areas have rifts which enable you to travel to enemy territory for raiding parties etc which was quite fun last beta, ofc they often spawned in hellish locations surrounded by lvl 30 elites but was fun trying to get to them!
Main downside though of playing on the chinese and indeed EU/US beta servers is that they are only version 1.0 so they're missing a lot of stuff that will be in the EU/US launch which is version 1.5. Includes stuff they added in previous patches such as double quest XP, more quests, rested XP system, etc so the 10-20 we're seeing in these versions is tougher than it will be when it goes live. Oh yeah and they're adding proper mouse look controls and invert mouse option etc so its a more familiar control style for us westerners.

THANK FUCKING CHRIST. I like the game, but that shit was driving me absolutely insane, especially since you want to look around during long tedious stretches of auto-running at the early levels.
Edit: As far as legion making is concerned, I'm actually kind of split. If I get the name and look of the character I got in beta, then I MIGHT just be a whore and roll Asmodians. But if not I will be the holyier then thou Elf ranger Elyos side.
Well the real benefit of launching at 1.5 is you get all the extra char creation options that were added in 1.1, 1.2 and 1.5 including the new hairstyles, eye customisation etc.
Downside ofc is it does mean 75% of the male characters will look like this:
Damn, this game replicates my usual pattern of enjoying melee much more than ranged when grinding monsters. That's too bad, because the chanter is the one class I haven't pretty much played before in another game and I usually enjoy control classes like SM the most in PVP.

I was just cuuuurious... I can't view the schedule here at work, so I wasn't sure if it was this weekend or not.
Harsh, man. But I commend you on the hate. It's actually seething and emitting a deep red glow from my monitor as I read it. Good show.
I've been sad all week, thinking I have to go through another 7 days of hell work to get to Aion again.
When someone said it might be up, I actually felt a flutter in my stomach.
Now I'm just sad.
