I don't think it could 70%, that's very significant. Then again, I didn't even know this was part of the game so what do I know? I really don't want to have to run all over the place in PvE to increase my damage. The only running I want to do in a fight is to get in a better strategic position or avoid aggro.
30% is pretty damn significant too. I agree, this is a stupid mechanic and probably does more harm than good. It is also never explained within the game as far as I can tell.
When moving you'll see a small arrow in the centre around your character, that's when the buffs active, they last for a second or so after you stop moving and need a reasonable amount of movement to activate so a quick press wont just do it (about two character steps or so)

Is it just me, or does anyone else find these percentages absurd?

Can you link a source for that? Those percentages sound just absurd. If those are accurate how is it even possible to hit a Templar moving backwards or an Assassin moving sideways?
Theres alot of tension in here about a mechanic that to tell the truth you can totally ignore.
Honestly I have no reason to lie to you .
There is no PvE in this game that you have to take this level of complexity into consideration, seriously try some of the PvE. You're giving this way more credit than it's worth.
In PvP this mechanic is as ridiculous as it is in PvE , you going to get owned in the first skill chain if not the guy that jumped you is going to pop a speed scroll of flight or run-speed and haul ass.

A Templar wont be constantly moving backwards because he'll be doing sodd all damage in return if he does so, also the bonus gets eaten up when they block etc so it'll affect 1 attack then he'd need to move again for a few paces before it comes back on so Skill chains etc would still largely affect them (It takes around 2 secs of movement to activate it). Ultimately it adds another reactive layer to PvP and people who know how to maximise the bonuses will win out more, for instance a Templar could back off while his main skills are on CD to activate the extra block which then when he blocks would allow him to use shield bash for his quick stun. It isn't a massive thing however and frankly when you're moving about in PvP, especially when you factor in the use of the wings etc, it will be difficult to use them efficiently as it can be simply too hectic.

Patch 1.5 is apparently confirmed by the german CM Amboss for Open Beta, they'll also be using torrents etc to distribute patches as well in future to avoid the probs korea had with 1.5 and its 2.5gb size...

I wasn't going to play during the open beta, but if it has 1.5, I'm totally there.
True, Block/Parry don't completely negate damage, but they seriously mitigate it.
I'm serious, I've taken up to 80% less damage from a parry. Also, parry/block negates special effects from a strike. Hence, if you get hit with a knockdown strike, and you parry, you take damage but do not suffer the effects.

The list of servers will not be changed, that is my suspicion. Why? Because the original servers are named after the Serephim Lords.
So!
Elyos will be playing on Zikel, as members of the Sorcelator Legion.
Asmodians will be playing on Nezekan, as members of the Witchaloks Legion.

Ugh, weekends like this (super crazy Blizzard announcement junk) make it difficult when we check Aionsource's site, and open beta's launch is still unknown
WE NEED SOME INFO YO, this weekend is perfect timing IMO

Actually, it's horrible timing. Blizzard just promised everyone in the world free kittens and lollipops.
But seriously, you don't announce anything during Blizzcon. You announce it after.
When the masses realizes that OMG ALL THIS AWESOME SHIT IS COMING, but right now? Filler dungeon EX+ALPHA 2.
And that's when you save them all with the Open Beta announcement.
Yea actually I agree with being quiet for now. I have absolutely no intention of going back to WOW, but even I'm looking at Cataclysm and thinking it's pretty awesome. I couldn't have given two shits about Frozen Throne.

This. I watched the vids and even was chatting with some friends about it cause I thought it was really cool. Best to let it blow over than try to compete with that :P

I actually picked up WoW for the first time to kill time before Aion drops. I can see where it would have been great fun way back when with everybody excited about world pvp and epic battles back and forth. It just feels sort of hollow now.

The thing with WoW is so many of the players are so entrenched in it and have been playing it for so long that they dont even notice when other games are released that they may enjoy more than WoW. WoW is also the household name MMO, everyone knows WoW, many people dont even know any other MMO's exsist. I know a few female players who actually thought WoW was the only game of its type. I remember i showed one Warhammer Online once because i wanted to show her that other games do PVP better, and it blew her mind that a game like that was that much different.
It also helps that WoW runs on computers that are like 5+ years old and crappy.
I might dip my toe back in WoW, if I can level a goblin (probably revamped lock) mostly through PVP/cross-server instancing/fresh WOTLK quality solo content. After seeing Aion, I really wish that WoW would fix experience to gently encourage repping on group content. I also would like to see them heavily expand world PVP, maybe give decent xp and badge rewards for taking/defending objectives in otherwise PVE zones, put a couple flagged AI guards you need a party of 3-6 to kill at each one. Right now the non-instanced leveling content is such a sterile solo experience.
Either way it would be more of a casual two-month thing because I just don't want to deal with the arena/raiding endgame, and the expansion probably won't be out for almost a year.

I dunno about the new expansion...
I can see paying 50 bucks for a new continent, classes and races included...
But from what I've heard it's the OLD continents version 2. I'm going to be buying an expansion to play the old game in a different way? I just dunno about that.

It's the old areas + 7 new zones. Consider that Northend only had 8 (9 with wintersgrasp) and BC only had 7.
So, the Open Beta needs to come soon, I got three friend I want to play the game with, because they didn't want to Pre-Order and didn't manage to get keys any other way. I'm figuring we can have a full party. So far, we have one interested in playing a Templar, another interested in a Cleric, and finally one interested in being a Sorcerer.
I'm not sure what I'll play this time around. Maybe a Chanter. No idea, really.
I definitely want some open beta. What I played of the CB I loved, but I really want to try 1.5 and also try tanking as a Templar to see how I like it in this game.

My only interest in Open Beta is to see how 1.5 changes my leveling process for the first 25 levels. That and to try out a ranger. I'm definitely going to be off and on during open beta, but when prelaunch comes around it's on.
Woohoo, read the whole thread. I just finished grad school and this would be a great way for me to get back into games. I'd really like to hear more about people's experience with each different class; I get the general archetypes, but I'm curious about the details of how they play out, the pluses and minuses, etc.
My favorite WoW classes have been Paladin, Shaman, Druid, and Hunter. Generally things I can solo with, but I want to be valuable in groups (who doesn't?), and often the hybrid classes aren't "good" at anything. So I'm considering perhaps a sorcerer, but something tells me I'd really enjoy a spirit master. If I could get insight at least on those two classes, that would be great.
I plan to join the Elyos guild with ya'll when the game goes live (still in the process of moving and just have my Mac at the moment). IMO the Elyos are going to be the 'underdogs' in this one... the Asmos are simply painted too cool, whereas I never really saw the Horde represented that way at first.
So rather than more screenshots, can we hear some more stories about your classes?

Sorcerer is a fairly typical glass cannon. Possibly more extreme in both senses than you might be used to...you will do a fuckton of damage, but you won't take any of it whatsoever. You are very valuable in groups for the amount of damage you will do. I'm not sure I would recommend spiritmaster at this point. I haven't heard anything good about them, and while I was thinking about them I heard that there aren't any flying pets. A pet class in a flying game with no flying pets? No thanks.

The thing I wouldn't like about a sorcerer (which I experienced with the Mage in WoW) is frequent, forced rest times sitting down regening mana and doing nothing else. I need a FLOW to my play, I hate stopping and starting like that. My impression is the sorc is kind of like this.
The spirit master I'm into for 1) being different, 2) hearing that they may be heavily skill-reliant (i.e. something you can tactically master, as well as just having the right gear), and 3) knowing that somehow they will have to have a way to cope in the abyss (the previously mentioned ability to knock people out of the air could be one of them). I am wary of the fact that people just ignore your pets in PvP though. So I'm looking for a little more insight to whether this is just another typical pet class (exactly like a warlock, for instance), or if there's anything else that adds a twist. My friend played a Summoner in FFXI that sounded cool, though I don't know what that class was like, for instance.
If I didn't play those two, I might go for a chanter, but it seems like everyone's doing that, and they seem like a "one per group" type class, which makes me a little wary if they're popular.
