I thought it was just terrible. It's like they gave up on the main story after you found the GECK (presumably to add in 8,000 side quests). The part where the enclave storm you 30 seconds after finding it is predictable beyond belief. Then they throw in a couple quick craaaaaazy twists and call it an ending. The pressure is building too high and someone has to climb into the deadly deadly radiation where there was none before? Come on.
Overall I guess it was an alright game. I'm not as much all about open world type stuff, so the fact that I could have spent 100 hours running around solving or causing problems for all the residents of the Wasteland didn't appeal to me as much. But the fact that they don't seem committed to a strong main story doesn't make me very likely to try any of the DLC they plan on offering.
The is apparently a pretty significant bug in the Blood Lines quest, that makes everyone in Arefu hostile to you if you choose to eliminate the family violently. My last save is way back and now I have to redo about any hours worth of play so those Arefu assholes don't KOS me.
You can actually kill them all as long as you leave the guard at the gate alive and sneak past him when you leave.
It never gets old reading comments of people just beating the game and reacting to the awful ending. Seems a universal reaction.
Overall, though, I love it. Its not so much the desitination, but the journey. Its fun wandering around, exploring, collecting junk, shooting people in the head, and occasionally doing a quest.

This is basically why I'm getting the game. No interest in the main story.

After a while everything seemed the same. Nearly everyone seems to have the exact same motivations and I kinda stopped caring about them. I had more weapons, ammo and money that I could use so doing more quests seemed pointless. I just felt I had no reason to keep exploring.
Wow, I just found a thing I cannot do in this game.
Eulogy Jones wants me
to kidnap some girl from Little Lamplight and hand her over to what is implied to be a pedophile at least that seemed what it was to me.
Yeah... the dude did not abide that one. My guy fed Eulogy to Dogmeat. It's strange. He was all ok about the human slavery part and killed quite indiscriminately. But... that... that was just taking it too far for Killfuck Soulshitter.
I aced Three Dog as soon as I saw him, before the scripted conversation could even begin. My fiance was on the bed behind me reading, I rolled up the stairs, engaged VATS, and hollered "Three Dog ooooOwwwww!" and blew his head off and laughed for a good fifteen seconds. She is not completely convinced that my behavior hasn't been altered in some measurable way by violent video games.
This made my morning.

Regarding Sydney:
The first time I played the game, I did things the boring way. You know, let her live, counterfeit the document for the crazy robot, and collect my reward. I was jealous of her SMG, then forgot about it after I decided I didn't want to bother with multiple quests just to get it (I actually have no idea if you can get it without killing her, I simply assumed you'd have to do a bunch of stuff to get her to give it to you.
Second time around? Yeah, I wanted that damn gun. We head down into the robot-infested areas to get the document where I fully expect her to die while sponging fire away from me. She died a half-dozen times when I was trying to keep her alive the first time I played the game, so I figured she was toast. Nope, she makes it the whole way with barely a scratch.
Anyway, we get to Psycho History Robot and listen to his proposal. Then I blow him to pieces for sending me on that stupid fetch quest once already. Sydney and me chat about the conclusion of the mission while I wonder why I think I'm forgetting something. She turns around to leave and then *ding!*, I remember the SMG.
She managed to get something like 6 feet away before the force of the shotgun rounds exploded her all over the room. I loot the gun off of a convenient Sydney chunk, smiling the whole time in anticipation of how it will help me out with a little game called Murder Everything in the Wastes Before Finishing the Crappy Main Story.
Also, hahaha, eat it, Three Dog. I seriously just turn off all the music and leave the radio off. Nothing on there I want to listen to anyway and I don't want to be prematurely forced into genociding everyone in the Wastes by listening to Three Dog.
===What this mod does===
-Replaces all regular laser pistols with the Wattz 1000 Laser Pistol from the classic fallout games
-Replaces all regular laser rifles with the Wattz 2000 Laser Rifle from the classic fallout games
-Replaces the Smuggler's End unique pistol with the Magneto-Laser Pistol design from Fallout 2
-Replaces the Wazer Wifle unique rifle with the Wattz 2000 Ext. Cap design from Fallout 2
-Adds classic sound files to the weapons, so they will sound as they did in the classic games
-Changes the Fallout 3 laser Rifle to AER9 Auto-Laser Rifle
-changes the Fallout 3 laser Pistol to AEP7 Auto-Laser Pistol
-adds more Micro Fustion Cells to the loot (you will be using more)
*Random loot and vendors vary between the Wattz series and AER/AEP series*
===Balance notes===
-the AEP7 Auto-Laser Pistol behaves like a Laser SMG
-the AER9 Auto-Laser Rifle behaves similarly to a laser version of the chinese assault rifle
-the Wattz series weapons shoot less rounds before needing a reload, and have a slower rate of fire as compared to the AER9/AEP7. Each shot is more accurate and slightly more powerful and uses 2 charges (except for the Wazer Wifle)
-the plasma weapons also use 2 charges for each shot. they are still a great short range alternative
*this was done to try and differentiate the roles that the Energy weapons have*
so, now your energy weapons users can have a little more variety, and a little more punch if you have enough skill!!
===Where to find===
-Enclave forces are most likely to be carrying AEP7s and AER9s. some will use Wattz 2000s. plasma weapons are just as common in the Enclave as usual
-Wattz 2000s will mostly be carried by the BoS, Outcasts, Talon Mercs, and Regulators. AER9s will sometimes appear in these groups, more commonly in the BoS and Outcasts
-Wattz 1000s can be found in the hands pretty much anyone who carries a Laser Pistol
-AEP7s will sometimes be found carried by BoS and Outcasts, but not as commonly as in the Enclave
-vendors and loot will alternate between the AER/AEP series and the Wattz series

Sydney the treasure hunter got blown to bits in front of my eyes during Seeking Independence. One second she was there, and the next she got in the way of a sentry bot. I really liked her, but it was a pretty cool RP moment for me, cause my character being the heartless bastard that he is had finally found a kindred spirit and begun to open up, only to have her snatched away from him. Now he keeps his heart locked away because he has been shown the fragility and pointlessness of life.

Seemed pretty cool to me. It was just how I felt, that I finally found an NPC that I didn't want dead, and what happens? She winds up dead. Just life. It's a pretty cool game that it makes you think about these things.
Just a small question, is there anything about the Wanderer's Edition mod that might not cooperate with the My First Laboratory? Or is the MFL supposed to roughly half the time fail to produce any item at all even though it says it created a compound? Not that I supposed it matters that much, but... it's kinda amusing basically running a drug lab out of my house in Megaton, so I'd kinda like it to be a reliable drug lab.

So I'm trying to 100% this game before I goozex it off. My first playthrough I was a good guy. Now I need to go back and hit level 8 and 14 as neutral and evil to get all trophies. (As well as do the Scientific pursuits quest)
My last game I concentrated on small guns and energy weapons, as well as intelligence. Would it be viable to focus on endurance and strength and go either melee or unarmed along with big weapons. I'm thinking of being an evil kung-fu bitch that has a soft spot for kids. Basically I'm going to get black widow and child at heart perks and kill most everyone else.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Yes it would be, or so the many stories of people killing deathclaws with thier bare hands say so...

You don't need any of those perks. Entomologist is onl useful for ants. However, you can easily kill those by abusing their slow turn speed. The same is true with som of th militar bots.

You had more problems with ants than radscorpions?
Also, unarmed is so good it's almost broken. Having a high endurance not only means high health, but also high Unarmed attack, so it's win-win. Plus you can sell off all those guns, bullets, and energy cells you don't need to stock up on stims.
I would recommend explosives as a secondary - you can always chuck a grenade if you run into more than you can handle.
I don't know how you people can put up with unarmed, it's such a pain to actualy hit the enemy. I can hit them with melee, but I've only ever been able to land one out of about every five punches on an enemy.

Um no it works on giant radscorpions too, which are assholes up close.
And Robotics Expert allows you to sneak up and disable those bots without having to fight, or if you have to fight get added damage.
Because there were times with my unarmed char that I got a sneak attack off but for some reason no damage was given to the enemy.
Meaning I pretty much had to take them on.

I'm thinking of doing an unarmed, unarmored character for shits and giggles. I want to kill people wearing Button's wig and some other articles of weird clothing.

Unarmored isn't really all that difficult. Shit, I'm not even sure I've ever played an "armored" game. I run around in a ragged Merc Grunt Outfit/Wasteland Doctor Fatigues (I like to travel light) everytime I play and only use armor if I'm farming the Enclave or something.
Being neutral confuses the shit out of three dog. He called me a malignant marauder and then went on to praise my heroic disarmament of the megaton bomb.

They should have just dropped that whole "nutral" concept, or simply made the rage for nutral much wider. A nutral character is the most bipolar psycho in the wastes, dissarming bombs, in one city, then wiping out ever poor bastard he ever meets outside of a town.
So what do you fellas who are going unarmed do on the Those! quest?
It sounds really dumb but what I did was actually run up to the ants, jump over them and then do a bunch of VATS strikes during the leap. When I landed on the other side of them I would run my ass off until I got somewhere safe, wait for my action points to recharge and do it again. Shooting yourself full of morphine helps.
So what do you fellas who are going unarmed do on the Those! quest?
The way I did it was:
1. Get a metric ton of stimpacks.
2. Run at the fire ants, jump over them, and then stay behind them/circle around so that they can't hit me with their jets of fire. Punch. Repeat. Hope you don't encounter several.
Yeah, you will get set on fire, but that's what the stimpacks are for!
