I'm having a problem with my router. I try to connect to Xbox live, and it connects to the internet, but cannot connect to xbox live because it says my ISP is blocking the connection, all of a sudden. It's been working fine up until just recently (actually, when I got the Dawn of War 2 beta with Games for Windows Live in it). It tells me to open ports 3074 and 88, which I do. I have the ports opened on the firewall and the virtual server, and I even tried to DMZ the Xbox 360's IP address to make extra sure. I pretty much did everything I can do to open the line between my router and the console. It still doesn't work. I try using an ethernet cable instead of the wireless reciever, same thing. What makes even less sense is that I can connect to Games for Windows Live on my PC just fine (and it's connected to the router), and the PS3 connects just fine too, but my Xbox 360 can't connect to Xbox Live.
I guess all that's left to do is call my ISP and ask what's up, but does anyone know of anything else that could be wrong? Is it my router? Why did it all of a sudden change up? Maybe I need to replace it completely and totally re-set up the network, or maybe my ISP will clear everything up.
Is your computer still signed into Live when you try to use the 360? You can't have both signed in with the same account at the same time.
How can I make sure it's signed off?

I had a similar issue last night, went through same steps. Punched holes in firewall, set xbox in dmz etc, kept saying i had strict nat going. The only way i got it to open up was to
A. Clear out all port fowardings for the xbox
B. Setup dhcp server on router
C. Enabled upnp on router
D. Set xbox to automagically get network info (use dhcp)
E. Rebooted xbox.
I am not sure how you sign out of games for windows live, i assume you would be getting a diff msg on the xbox when you tried to login.
Unfortunately I dont have the answer, but I do have a similar issue, so I figured I'd ask here. I'm not a networking expert, so bear with me. I Have a netgear CG814GCMR box I'm hooked through and whenever I play Call of Duty 5 (I am not sure if any other games do this, dont have one to test. That said Netflix streams fine and does not cause this issue.) I am disconnected after a game or two. So unlike the OP, I can connect, but not keep a connection.
I went in and gave the 360 a static IP, as well as set the DNS manually (use the same ones I find on my PC under ipconfig, let me know if that's wrong). After that I forwarded the ports suggested by a few friends and Portforward.com, 88 and 3074 I believe. I still get the same issue.
The last thing I tried was setting up the 360 as a DMZ, but I've only gotten one or two games in and am at work right now so I can't really test and see if that fixed it.
The other thing I thought of was updating firmware, but I'll be damned if I can find it anywhere. I haven't tried what Madpanda suggested, as I don't really know what a DHCP server is, but I may try that next if this doesnt work. In any case any help would be great, as live is almost unusable right now. Thanks in advance.

Try setting your xbox to automatically figure out its network information, if it does this and connects to live, your router (or something on your network, the chances of this not being your router are pretty low, but raise if you have multiple routers, such as 1 for internet 1 for a voip phone) has a dhcp server setup.
Dropping games might be an issue with your internet or router, are you connecting your xbox to it wirelessly? If so try running a network cable from your xbox to router and see if that helps. Games can be a bit more picky that netflix which is buffering information (reading ahead while you are watching), as opposed to something like CoD where it is a constant stream.

Yeah it will certainly automatically connect, but obviously I still get dropped. Got to test it out the last couple of hours with the DMZ setup, still dropped me. And no, I'm connected over a cable.
Soooo now what? Should I try what the above poster said and just enable upnp?
Another thing that doesnt really make sense to me is that it SEEMS to only disconnect when I'm playing with one specific friend of mine, but that doesn't make sense so so far im putting it up to cooincidence, but maybe I'm wrong?

Try Upnp
Also try and figure out if there is a link between the disconnects, you mention it seems to happen when you play with 1 friend. Try doing a decent amount (few hours, split it up if you have to) without him to see if the issue persists.
I just got an xbox 360 on monday and usually play with the same friend hosting (he has a fast college connection) but we both have seen it where 1 match is lag city and the next is perfectly fine. Not sure if this is due to other peoples bad network setups or what.

Well I played without him for a good 3 hours today, then when he joined i was disconnected every other round. the thing is, none of the rest of our group gets disconnected...
Argh, I'm having heaps of trouble with this:
I just yesterday switched to an Ubuntu derivative and I have spent today bridging my connection from my wlan card to my xbox through a an ethernet cable. Now, I've done this easily before with Windows using Internet Connection Sharing with no trouble.
And it works fine. Sort of. The xbox comes up with a message that my NAT is set at "moderate" and not "open" security, which may be a problem if I want to play online. I looked it up and it seemed I had to open a few ports in the router, which I did, but that didn't help.
But can that really be the problem when it worked fine under Windows without fooling with the router at all? Then it has to be the only changed component: the OS, right?
Can anybody advice at something I could try looking at? Like at all, because I'm really at a loss. The router I use is a SMC WBR14-G2, if that matters at all.

Anyway, I used this guide right here:
