My parents have been getting into the Zune pass lately. So I've been looking into an Eee PC so they could listen to their Zune Tunes on their stereo easily (they don't have their own computer and it's in the complete other side of the house anyway). Now I know there's plenty of simple wires and dongles and the like to get stereo audio to our system. But I was hoping to find a wireless solution. There are tons of wireless headsets and speakers out there, which is what I keep running into. Nothing that I want for this though.
Erm. Aren't there products out there that allow you to use local FM radio transmitters? These are fairly common. Apologies for the Sony style link (also, it's a car adapter, but there are plenty of non-car adapter versions out there). I've seen them at Best Buy for a lot less, too. Just plug it into your audio device, then tune the stereo's FM radio to a preset station.
I completely forgot about the fact that our stereo has radio.
However it seems 99% of these guys run off the DC power of a car plug, or from a Zune/iPod plug.
Also, I really despise the quality and price of these devices. Though I suppose not being in a moving car and having the larger antenna might help. I'll keep one of these in mind though.
Anything that transmitted more than a few feet over FM frequencies would be a big violation of FCC regulations, so I doubt you'll find any FM transmitters designed for home use. You'd have to be so close that you could run a cable just as easily.
Only wireless music streaming solution I've seen is either networking an Xbox or PS3, or using Airport Express (which is iTunes specific).
Two drawbacks, kinda expensive, and it only works with iTunes. That being said, it's simple to setup and easy to use.
EDIT: It also functions as a wireless relay, if the stereo is far from the wireless hub it can make surfing on laptops etc better even farther away from the hub.

EDIT: Best Buy's list of FM transmitters: http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.jsp?id=abcat0208031&type=category. You want a generic one that isn't specific to a MP3 player like the iPod or Zune. Something with a standard audio jack.
