Games you put down - and may or may not have picked up again

So everyone has a game or knows someone who starts a game, plays a good deal into it, and then somehow it gets put down and lost in the shuffle. Destined to be listed on the backloggery or forgotten about completely.

What games have you put down and forgotten about, or perhaps went to go back to play and are surprised at your last save date?

My own story/games:
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
I got this game at launch with a brand new shiny Wii. That was Nov 19, 2006. I had my first child on February 8. ~9 months later, I'm looking through my games and I realize I have never touched this thing since the end of January! So I start to play it again. Today, I wanted to play some Zelda as I remembered I never did beat it when I picked it up again. My last save? December 1, 2007. I am at a loss as to what happened that December that would cause me to have put it down, but I am finally going to finish this thing! I'm pretty close, in the
Temple of Time collecting the mirror fragments
right now.

Sonic and the Secret Rings
I got this game as a gift (I think it was Christmas, 2007) and I didn't play it for almost a year. I played the first couple tutorial levels, wasn't too impressed, and put it down. About a month ago I pick it up again and start to actually play through the story mode and it's pretty awesome. I feel like I've been missing out on this the whole time and it surprises me I let it sit so long!

GOW2 - Got into the giant rock eater thing and haven't touched it since. In my defense, I've been playing Fallout 3, Dead Space, Little Big Planet, RB2, and L4D a lot since then. I really need to finish that, but I just downloaded Castlevania 3 on VC, and I'm buying Fishing Master World Tour tomorrow. Not enough time man, not enough time.

Final Fantasy XII. I've played through to around Giruvegan twice now, and at that point I just seem to lose interest. Out of the FF games I've played, it entertains me the least, and I don't think I've really got the desire to see the plot's conclusion. I just don't care about the world in the same way I cared about VI's or X's.

Twilight Princess and FFXII. I'm at the Wind (?) Temple in Zelda and at the first Judge fight in FFXII. I haven't played either in over a year.

Timeshift: Played through the intro and lost interest. Put it down shortly after.

Unreal Tournament 3: Played one deathmatch, won it, put it down.

Freedom Fighters: Got really close to the end but I stopped due to boredom and haven't played it in months.

Deus Ex - Invisible War: Played to Ciaro, got stuck, then realised the game was terrible. I put it down over a year ago, never to be played again.

Mercenaries 2 - World in Flames: Played quite close to the end (I think) and then lost interest/started playing other games. I'm pretty sure I'll start playing it again sometime; I do enjoy the explodey gameplay a lot.

Well, I'm sure I have more than a few still lying around. Or at least that I can remember.

Zelda OoT: Well now when this came out I was so excited because I loved LttP, I got a preorder and everything and got it the day it came out. Then I played it and well, I just wasn't getting into it. The sound effects were getting to me and the gameplay was just not my thing. So I just stopped playing after, um, the Spirit Temple. Whatever came right before the Gerudo dungeon. Never really played it again.

Alundra: Got to the last dungeon then kind of lost interest. I'm going to play it again because it's a good game, but I just never got around to it.

Brave Fender Musashi: I don't think I got very far into it, I just didn't like it that much. Probably not going to play it again since I don't have it and it's expensive and stuff.

Legend of Legaia: I got to...I don't know what it called. Farther than halfway though. I just really didn't like this game's battle system. Plus it's ugly as all get out. I had it for awhile then sold it on Ebay. No thanks.

Lunar The Silver Star Story: Got to the last boss but it was hard so I quit. Sold this too, got moneys.

Valkyrie Profile: Got to the last dungeon then couldn't beat the one hard optional boss. At the time I didn't really like some of the things that were done in that game but if I ever get a PSP I'll probably get that version because I've learned some things about the game since then, and I did like VP2 a lot.

Shenmue: Uh, I played a bit of it, but I couldn't figure out what the hell to do, so i just stopped. I still have it so I might give it another try but I dunno.

.hack// Mutation: Ok, I played and beat Infection and liked it ok, but then I got this and realized it was the exact same game and that I didn't really want to play it anymore, so back it and the first game went. Don't really intend to play another .hack game again.

Beyond Good & Evil: Got tired of the stealth a ways into the game. Don't have it and probably won't pick it up again.

Metal Gear Solid: Oh yeah, this too. Got near the end where you had to effing backtrack everywhere and said screw that.

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness: I got near the end and made one of the best weapons, but just kind of lost interest and stopped playing. I still have it so I'll probably play it again sometime.

    Chaos Wars: Ahahahahahaha, no.

Disgaea 2: Too like the first game, didn't like the characters enough, got kind of sick of SRPGs. Still have it, I'll probably play it again sometime.

Front Mission 4: There is this god damn mission near the end where you have to direct these feeble stupid wanzers back from the enemy's position to your own and make it so they don't die, but they suck so bad that it's really annoying to do it, so I failed then didn't want to try again. Might play again someday.

Growlanser 2: Ugh. There was this one stage where the floor started dropping out from under your characters if you didn't move fast enough. That was retarded, so I quit. I don't think I ever quite got the hang of it anyway.

Kingdom Hearts: Got to Halloween Town, but somehow the game got so scratched up it didn't want to play. I doubt I'll bother to get another copy since I played KH2 and hated it so much.

Makai Kingdom: I don't want to talk about why I stopped playing this one.

Samurai Legend Musashi: BS boss near the end which forced you to play different from any previously enemy in the game.

Xenosaga: Right near the last boss, I just sort of lost interest. Will play again since I got the other two games and want to play all three.

Zone of the Enders The Second Runner: Didn't get that far into it. Bought it more recently though, I'll probably get back into it...eventually.

Final Fantasy 3 DS: Got to the last dungeon and didn't really feel like playing through it.

    Probably more, eh.

Transformers DS (decepticon), just lost interest and couldn't see ANY end in sight for the game, or how it related to the film at all.

Animal Crossing, did not care for working a shitty job in real life then trying to pay back tom nook for even more godamn useless shit.

Dreamfall, computer died and took my savegame with it, I might play it again and just hax my way up to where I left off.

Fallout3, wandered the wastes, couldn't find megaton (I am apparently mentally handicapped thank you for pointing it out to me), was killing super mutants at lvl 4 and lost interest. I know how it ends because I really didn't much care for the main storyline, and had enough fun exploring around. I should head over to the republic of dave though.

SSX3 (and tricky), got far enough in and got stuck on a few runs/races and gave up.

    Assassin's Creed.

It wasn't even a "GOD I HATE THIS GAME IT IS TERRIBLE" sort of "put it down" but one day I just put it down to play something online and couldn't ever be assed to pick it up again. I can't even remember where I was at - I think I was stabbing a dude? Or about to stab a dude?

Currently, I'm playing Disgaea 3... it unfortunately came out just at PAX time, so I picked it up at release; only to play for just a bit before taking off to Seattle. When we came back, I had to jump right back into work and get ready for inventory, so I never had time to play... I picked it up, and I guess I wasn't very far, but I've still forgot some of the finer points of the story (chapter 1 spoilers)
"Who the hell is Almaz and why does Mao have a "Hero" title everybody keeps going on about?"

I like having a game on the backburner though... something different to retreat to every so often, to replay.

I actually haven't even put it down yet, but I have to admit to myself at that some point in Lost Odyssey I just won't be able to make myself grind my characters for an hour before the next boss fight. It's a great, wonderful JRPG...but it's still a JRPG, natch.

The entire Grand Theft Auto "trilogy" - in all three of them I'm stuck on missions that seem damn near impossible to do without cheating

Both Disgaeas - I didn't really get into the first one, and I just kind of stopped playing the second. I intend on getting back into them though

Tales of Phantasia (GBA) - I'll get some progress, not play for a month, then forget where I am and have to start over again after wandering aimlessly for an hour. They should've added the synopsis feature from Tales of Symphonia, in my opinion

Mass Effect - I really like this game actually, I just keep forgetting that I have it

Xenosaga Ep. 2 - haven't touched it since I got my ass kicked by a boss that I can't really remember
