Well I have two older computers that I am going to Frankenstein into 1 to make into a makeshift media server and a problem I have is that the case I am using only has 1 hard drive bay and am going to be putting an existing hard drive into a external case. namely this one http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817145030

Just wondering if I can leave it plugged in all the time without damaging the drive?

Any help would be appreciated!

External hard drives can generate a lot of heat depending on the enclosure, and that'd be the biggest thing to watch. If you're not constantly spinning it it won't be as much of an issue though.
