This is my first time here though I have been a long time reader. When I saw this contest I thought I could have some fun with this and share it with others. Here is a WIP of my entry. I know how Gabe and Tycho have had fun with H.P Lovecraft elements in the past so I thought it might be fun to work with that. I have entitled this piece "Into The Mouths Of Madness". Here we see Gabe and Tycho taking on a pack of Shogoths, the rebellious servants of the Elder Things. I have them launching (ramping?) their way into battle atop a vintage WWI army motorcycle. Gabe armed with his trusty cardboard tube samurai sword and Tycho hammering away with the the machine gun mounted on the side car. Will our heroes survive?
If I screw the image linking up feel free to yell at me :winky:
My bad guys! I was thinking that my post was along the WIP lines but I guess not. I shall repost later in another thread to keep the comedy going if you guys want.
Well, keeping on topic, I just finally caught Mully's WIP and it is rad! I don't know how i missed it!
I've actually been working on something that might suit this contest, though it's a bit different than the other submissions I've seen.
I draw ambigrams (for those who don't know, they're words/phrases that appear the same upside-down as rightside-up) and I've been working on a Child's Play one for a while, and I finally perfected it, I think.
I know that technically Child's Play isn't associated with Penny Arcade, so I'm working on another one as well, but I figured I'd submit it and the worst that would happen is that it'd be ineligible.
Child's Play might not be directly be associated with the comic, but man that's great. Only thing is, have you tried vertically lengthening the loop on the h/y? It's a little distracting right now- makes it look as if you've combined a p and an h.
Thanks! And yeah, I have tried that, because I see the P too, but lengthening it only makes longer, skinnier Ps, and taking it out makes the C look like it's just randomly there on the other side, so I think the loop just needs to stay . I might tinker with it, though . Thanks for the feedback!
Here are two more pieces I would like to submit to the contest! I don't want to clog the forum with more of my pics, so I put them underneath my "spoiler" link below. I was inspired by the title of one of the PA books called "birds are weird."
thanks, slimes. i've got so much left to do in it, and a lot of big changes. will be an entirely new picture when i post the final. (which wont be any time soon, ha!)

Jesus Christ you guys.
Betweeen AoB, Mully and Honez you guys are totally making me envious. Hopefully Khoo convinces Gabe and Tycho to have multiple winners because a bunch of you deserve serious recognition for your artwork.
Well, so much for that idea. Good thing I had more than one, just in case. Figure it'll make it that more more concrete for me to actually put something, even something as early as this, up.
So this'll be in oil, I suppose. And that composition is going to go through a lot of iterations, I think, before I commit it to the canvas. But that's alright, because I've got to wait for my paints to get here from the States, anyway.

I like the concept, looking forward to the finished version.
Might as well put up the rest of the day's work...fiddled a bit with the composition (edited the original post with that), and then darkened stuff up, putting in enough background for now to reveal that they're in the belly of a whale!!Dun dun DUN! I don't want to spend too much time on it since the final won't be in pencils, anyway (though maybe I should keep some pencils down, just in case I horribly screw up the oils).
I'm new to the AC and thought I'd pop in here and say hi. I'm always looking for things to inspire me to actually sit down and draw and had did a little brainstorming about this fan art thing. It's always interesting to me to see what people come up with - taking content someone else has "visualized" and turning it into his or her own style.
Crawdad- i think i like the first composition a little more, having the banana boat slightly angled towards the camera made it a bit more interesting... the side on boat flattens out the scene..
seeing all the cool kids are posting wips- here's mine
If it doesn't have the fruit fucker- it ain't worth shit
thanks ND- yeah i was thinking that i should tweak gabes leg/foot- i might do that once its all coloured in.. thats the problem of using a million layers- when you need to fix something you have to change a thousand other things :P
Looking forward to seeing yours (nudge nudge wink wink)

*Insert slow clap*
That sounds really, very good right now.

There you go.

I'd say do something with Gabe's rifle. I barely reads as a rifle and it looks like he's holding onto reigns at first glance.
The stuff I'm seeing from all of the entries so far is fucking awesome! I have my work cut out for me but I definitely enjoy the challenge!
Bacon's especially blew me away. Not sexually blew but quite close to it. In the best of ways. But not gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Here is my submission for the contest!

I don't get it.
Also ick, terrible aliasing.

And good luck to you all, there are some very talented artist here.
I even got this, to give me more incentive:

Without droning on I just thought I'd say I'd really like to see something a la Handre De Jagre (http://kotaku.com/gaming/handre-de-jagre/buy-handre-de-jagers-works-of-great-and-terrible-genius-199682.php). I've got some ideas I'm toying with and will share when I get stuff down on paper.
So, "hello" I guess, and good luck. So far I've seen a lot of good stuff.
Looking forward to seeing you finish that Twisp and Catsby piece crawdad

Oh, shit, that's right, portrait.
I knew there was a reason for that first awkward sketch...*sigh,* back to the drawing board, I guess...
