Oh how quickly we forget the world map in Abyss.

That ALONE is enough to make SO4 better than it.

Ok this game is really starting to piss me off with its progression. The captain says "come talk to me when you are ready for your new assignment, go get some rest" so i head to the beds, rest, and come back, no new assignment. I've talked to every fuckin NPC i could find, still no assignment. What the hell does it take to trigger the damn event and progress, seriously this is frustrating the shit out of me and i am about ready to give up on this game.

IIRC, you need to have Faize give up his ship to his commander first. I think one of the Eldarans told me to go see that guy, then he takes it, then the commander is right there.

Yeah i figured it out, but i did not enjoy the running around randomly trying to trigger the event like that. Super annoying, and thats a little too extreme on how linear that was, the game forcing me to talk to certain people like that just to progress. Pretty bad even for a JRPG.

Yeah well... it won't be the first time you have to do that.

Not really much of a spoiler but just to be safe...
"ZOMG, Sarah's missing, we should ask around town for clues."
Which means: leave town, traverse desert, traverse cave, traverse forest, find temple where you find a clue.

    Holy crap that was annoying.

Oh so it wasnt just me then. I was running around talking to everyone for like an hour and then just took off and decided to say fuck it and went to the next area. And then it randomly told me to insert Disc 2! That caught me off guard. But that part was dumb. Once I found out where to go I wasnt sure if it even told me to talk around town anymore, I just thought I missed a part in a scene telling me to go where I needed. But I guess not. Stupid bastards.

Most likely. Or...I hope. I always love super weapons/accessories.

I havent yet delved into any of the crafting items and all that stuff yet though. I always go into the room for the funny scenes but after that I dont care. I guess I should start trying that out.

Define "uber". It definitely has items that can't be made without utilizing drops from the "secret" (like they're a secret at this point, given that it's tri-Ace) bosses.

As best I can tell, you do have the stupidly high-end weapons with flaws that I imagine can be fixed with proper synthesis, but I think those require crazy crafting recipes which probably involve a lot of work.

They did the exact same thing in IU. The whole "we won't tell you where to go and who to talk to" thing.

I like how in Star Ocean 2, in order to get the best sword for Claude that doesn't involve the secret dungeon, you had to do a bunch of stuff that could be easily missed/screwed up. This taught me to keep every item I get and don't sell anything that isn't a consumable, like prepared dishes and combat items.

I wasn't caught off guard. I knew she was going to be awful but it turned out she was worse than I expected. I don't know how you guys can say she's not that bad. :P

Anyways, I'm in Astral City in Roak and have no idea what to do now. It's one of those "find the right NPC" quests.
Black Eagle just took off with the medicine.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, and should I stock up on item creation items? I haven't been spending my money on basically anything, since so far in the game, 17 hours, there hasn't really been a need. I have 111,644 Fol right now.

There's a lot of stores on Roak, so a lot of opportunities to make XP/SP doing their deliveries requests. I'd buy 20 of just about everything that you can afford, because it'll make it much easier to fill those orders.

Hold off on buying shit for the moment. The next city sells all sorts of relatively expensive, but excellent skill books. I remember blowing about 60k on them.

And go back to the first city/area. There's some NPC in the middle of the town (I think) that tells you he's gone to the colosseum, so then you need to talk to a guard outside of the colosseum... and then go to the colosseum.

Speaking of skill books, would that next town happen to sell the regeneration book? Astral City only had HP Boost, which I quickly gave to Meracle. Other than that, and a few metals I bought there, I haven't really spent much money in the game at all.

I guess I see what you mean...but I spent like, 6 hours or more doing all that stuff, so it never felt like one large bundle of cutscenes. Nearly every story scene unlocks new sidequests, which often means running back to the Calnus to make something, which means more fighting, and another break before another story sequence.

I think I like that a lot better than what happens in most of the JRPGs these days where new stuff to do doesn't show up until you've gone through a ridiculous number of scenes in a row.

I tried to help, but...Looking at GameFAQs for that answer just confused me more, Gilder :(

Apparently, in order to 100% a boss you need to save before the boss, beat it, save in another slot, reload the first save and beat the boss again (and again and again since it's 30% each time)...that seems to imply that monster data is cumulative.

That sounds a bit like how battle trophies in SO3 worked but not exactly. It sounds like it makes a system file for monster data that all files read. You would need to update that file though with a later save because just getting the data doesn't save it to the system file. A real save does. Then when you reload the old save it reads the new file. I'm curious if battle trophies work the same. It doesn't seem necessary this time but it was essential to getting boss trophies on 3.

Er...this is probably a stupid question but is there not supposed to be music in the opening cutscenes?

There's music in battle and walking around, it just seems odd to have the cutscenes be totally silent aside from talking.

Also, I don't see an option for it in the menu, so the answer is probably no, but can you alternate the camera rotation? I freaking hate it when a game has that backward rotation with no option to swap it.

EDIT: I suppose it's not "backward" but for some reason pushing right to turn the camera right , and the other way, just seems counter-intuitive to me.
