hm, I think I will actually try to fix that one up. I like the picture and I think if I broaden the angle on the chin a bit, make the lips longer and bring the eyes down a little it could be decent
plus I need some examples for my portfolio that aren't graphic design-related
Drawing hairs as a bunch of individual lines is a bad habit, in my opinion. It doesn't properly capture the likeness of real hair. Draw it in chunks to capture the real shape.
also vann, see if you can turn out a higher volume of sketches. it's good for tip-givers since they can recognize consistent weaknesses and for you because, well, you draw more

yeah, unfortunately I've been hampered down at work. at this point, there are only two employees (including myself) to run the store, so I pretty much work everyday. In addition to that, they've been late by at least a week in getting me my pay the past three paydays. It's been stressful.
woah jane, stop this crazy thing. time to learn how to use these fancy drawin' tablets

Drawing with a tablet is like trying to draw with your left hand when you first get one. I'm still pretty shit at it, but I really don't practice with it enough.

I'm left-handed!
I get what you mean, though. it's definitely different, but once I get the settings how I want them and get used to it I think I will enjoy using it a lot.
Been on kind of an animal kick ever since I got my tablet. They are fun to do! This was suggested by a friend of mine, though I feel kind of bad since Beavotron has been doing Red Pandas lately too. almost like I'm encroaching on settled grounds. oh well, blame my friend who apparently likes red pandas.
this is gonna be a portfolio piece, so suggestions are most welcome.
craaaaaaaaaaap haven't done anything in forever. well, news first I guess
portfolio long done and sent away, and apparently it was good enough to make those people think I can art. I was accepted at the Herron School of Art and Design, and will be attending this fall. Hurray!
and now for actual work, because I haven't done any since I finished my portfolio. been wanting to create a website for my portfolio and an art blog, so I put together a splash page to kind of hammer out a possible visual style
comments of the design, text or anything else are more than welcome. I still haven't decided how the actual site will be arranged, though it will probably keep to the vertical bar theme.

edit: on your design, i would replace the far right picture with something else... I hate to say it but that just is not a strong picture that you would want to show off like that,

that is definitely not a 27 degree angle

a combination of textures and some coffee stain brushes I found a long time back.
Basically, with both the upper eyelids and the lower lips, you kind of want to think about the overall curves in three parts.

I think its fine, but it could use some cleaning up around the inside of the ears
could you show us your ref if you used one?
yeah the eyes are one thing I am intent on fixing. I don't know quite how I'll do that, but they are creepy
looking at it now, the ears are very messy.
cleaned up the ears, tweaked the eyes and mouth.
edit: except that was totally the wrong image file. fix'd
a quick small version of what I'm gonna do next
woo yeah love me some textures. need to ween myself off those
racist
Personally I think that'd be a mistake. The fuzzies help give it more definition.
I'll experiment with solid patches and just tightening up the fuzz and see what I like
hmmmmm with some text this could definitely be some sort of propaganda poster
ahahahaha holy shit I may do something like this
once I get home I am makin' that panda straight G
and it is going into my portfolio
ahahahha oh god I'm so sorry
