G&T Spammers

This is getting kind of old. Just about every day we have some bot or whatever spew 4-5 threads of links to some random website selling stuff. Is there anything that can be done to registration to make this more difficult?

Note: If you are posting in spam threads and CLICKING ON THEIR FUCKING LINKS you are a HUGE FUCKING TARD and should really be thinking about suicide. I mean seriously thinking about it as a way of sorting out what's wrong with your brain.

PS, look at the new registrations. Every day approximately a third of them are obviously spambots, and I'm willing to bet that nearly half of them really -are- spambots.

So, yeah, fixing that would be nice. Especially since there are a number of simple simple simple things you could do to slash the number of registerring spambots to a fraction of what it currently is.

I believe the last time this was brought up, comments were made that a basic anti-spambot mechanism was being put in place. *shrug*

Do those random number/letter generators that all the websites have these days actually work?

There is a lively discussion in the admin forum about this. Sadly information won't reach the public for a bit, as mods are still in the dark but we are very much aware of the problem and we are working on fixing it.

Why don't we have it so that you must be logged in a week before you can post URLs as links. Kinda like being jailed kills your BB code but only for links for a week or so.

    Before:
Yo! Dudez! You guys are soo cool, Buy stuff from my link!

    After:
Yo! Dudez! You guys are soo cool, Buy stuff from my link!

It would suffice as a temporary fix. Btw, thanks Alpha. <3

image verification on registration is a much better idea.

the best idea is making tube moderate all new users posts before they could be seen by the public. that way he has something to do all day other than brood.

Really, every topic and reply should have to be confirmed by a mod before it's allowed through the system

we might need a few more mods, sure, but perhaps we could have half-mods assigned specifically for this purpose. Some sort of deputy system, one could call it

alternatively, punish the retards that reply and confirm our acknowledgement of the bots

That would have nothing to do with him being able to post again. The account is there.

If he tried to make a new one, it would be permaban't for ban evasion.

But this is starting to get ridiculous. Every other day there's a spam thread.
And if jailings+possible bannings are going to be a result of people posting in them to laugh at the dumbasses/spambots, why bother having a forum? There'll be no people able to post!

Maybe have a mandatory "lurking" period? No new topics for a month or so? Closing registration should be an absolute last resort.

PS: No funny ban message up yet? D:

    ...May I ask how so?

It makes sense to me at least. New, actual, posters need to wait until they can make a new topic. Not a new post, mind you, just a new topic. They see the way OPs work, what is and is not acceptable, and it keeps people from laughing in their faces about how they haven't lurked enough.

As has already been pointed out, the bots will just wait out the period, or post in existing threads. In the meantime, people who might have joined just to make an H/A thread get boned.

And it doesn't help when there are multiple mod posts after it's locked, thereby creating the exact behavior that they're punishing.

So who gives a shit? You don't have to read them. It happens maybe once or twice a day, and if people exercised their goddamn brains and didn't post in them it wouldn't even be an issue. The idea of censoring new posters is elitist horseshit. Do I wish we had spam filters? Yes, I do, but let's not overstate the problem here. The sky isn't falling because some bot tries to sell you viagra.

They can still post, but most topics that are "still-born" or locked in about 5 minutes are made by new posters.

I think topic lockage would be a little more discouraging to new posters than not being able to make one. "You can make one, but you just aren't doing it right" is what I'm seeing. "Wait a bit, learn how it's done." makes more sense to me.

Is it really that big of a deal to you guys? I mean just ignore the fucking threads. There's what two or three a day and they're usually taken care of pretty quickly (especially if there's a mod on and someone PMs them). The admin says there will be things in place soon to help stop it and really, the other suggestions reek of Gamefaq's retarded karma levels.

Some new people post retarded shit, but guess what! So do people who have been here for years.
