Last year was my first year ever at Bonnaroo, and it was incredible. After looking at this year's line-up, I think it will be even better. Who else is going to this amazing festival? If not, why not? And don't say you are going to Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza sucks.

I was about to point out that the lineup does nothing for me. Then I noticed Coheed and Cambria. Then I realized that despite having Coheed the lineup does nothing for me.

Although, I'm biased since the last big show I saw was Coachella '06

The headliners are Phish, Beastie Boys, and Nine Inch Nails? Is this 1996?

Man, I'm pumped. Not so much for the headliners, but I've really been wanting to see MGMT, of Montreal, Santogold, Animal Collective, Girl Talk, and a bunch others.

    Fuck Bonnaroo.

I had to drive somewhere on the other side of where Bonnaroo was being held one year, and Jesus Christ cops under every fucking overpass.

I donno, Ive been to Bonnaroo...3 times?... last year was my first year at Lollapalooza, and I thought it was way better. More quality music, fewer hippies, less mud, etc. Although it's probably an even trade off: Hippies for idiots in the Kanye sunglasses...

To each his own I guess!

I hated Lollapalooza. Too many people in too small a venue. And all the people at Bonnaroo are much nicer. Coheed and Cambria put on an awesome live show. MGMT were there last year, they were very good.

Ehh. I went in 2007 and it was a great time, but it seems to get lamer as time goes on. Metallica and Bruce Springstien do not a bitchin festival make.

If any of you end up going and do not see the AA Bondy set, well, you're just silly.

As I said in the SE++ thread, I just really hope the two nights of Phish aren't both headline nights. Now to start cajoling the girlfriend into going. This will be 3 years in a row if I can afford this one.

Unfortunately right now something like this is prohibitively expensive for me. Otherwise seems like it would be a blast.

Yea, two nights of Phish headlining would be ridiculous. Especially if they go on during another band each night. Anyone know how good Citizen Cope is live? Also kind of excited to see the Beastie Boys.

Ideally, they do a late night show on Saturday and headline on Sunday. I could see NIN or Beastie Boys doing a headline slot, but hopefully it gets fleshed out a little bit more (they usually do).

I am excited, but I kind of like Coachella's line-up more. I'm just not that into many jam bands though, but I counted about 28-30 artists I want to see at 'Roo and about 34-35 I want to see at Coachella. Still not too bad, considering I would pay between $15 and $50 to see most of them seperately.

Why is it getting so fashionable to hate on Bonnaroo?

Every where I see discussion on it people are like "Oh man, Bonnaroo is so not good anymore. I liked the old Bonnaroo better."

Well, checking the setlists for past years at Bonnaroo, the first couple of years were not good at all. I admit that Coachella is better, but some of us can't afford to go all the way out to freaking California.

A lot of the bitching comes from bros and hippies mad because Bonnaroo is "selling out" by having mainstream acts play. I like the variety myself, but I will admit that if I could only pick one year to have went, it would have been 2006.

Coachella is not really an option for me either.

The one thing I didn't like last year was the police presence, they seemed super dickish this year. A friend I went with pointed out a fire hazard at camp and the cop just shrugged and said, "Honey, it's Bonnaroo". I also had a security guy pinch some of my stuff that went by without a hitch in 2007.

While last year I had a great time my first year attending I will not be returning unless I can find a way to walk around without gagging on the overpowering reek of pot. <not cool like that>

Also I had the best time mostly hanging out with the people we camped beside. I doubt we could be that lucky again with neighbors.

Bonnaroo already changed when Radiohead headlined in 2006, before than it mostly focused on Jam Bands so I'm not really surprised to see Phish headlining two nights.

Not really more or less than any other major American music festival.

Last year alone had Metallica headline, Mastodon, and The Sword. I forget who else played in 2007, but I saw Clutch and Tool.

Unless you go to a more genre specific festival, you aren't going to find a lot more than that.

Man I'd be completely down for going to this, but I don't know if I'll have a vehicle that can make it. I'll be at the 2009 CMJ Festival, though - the last night of it is my 21st birthday.

Oooooo, I wish I could go to that.

All I can afford to drive to this summer is Bonnaroo and Merlefest.

Really? I had no Idea Mastodon and The Sword played. My friends who go made it sound like they get a good cross section of every genre except metal. Perhaps I will rethink my position.

If I have funds for a fest this summer, it will probably be Rothbury. I've been to their campground before (it's a perfectly respectable vacation ranch most of the year) and it's beautiful. Bonnaroo is kind of nice, but most of it is scorched and trampled Tennessee wasteland.

Last time I went was before it got too commercial and there were too many cameras and cops around. Ate some bunk tabs and LSD and some super mega type of mushroom that sent me swirling. Bob Dylan gave me a bad trip, The Dead blew my mind, and Dave Matthews was tolerable.

I also went with two smokin hot hippie chicks. Just the three of us.

    Ahem.

Well, back when I was going, it was pretty much just a hippie thing.

Now it's more or less just a regular old Festival.

If you want metal, go check out Scion Rock Fest, which is free, or VooDoo Fest.
