Since my TV isn't 4k, and I don't own either console, I was considering picking up a vanilla PS4 next month.

If I do, it's probably a guarantee this gets a PC release.

Yeah, I'm sure the DF guys get heart attacks when it finally comes to PC.

Granted, they also have +$1000 GPUs. And probably about a third of the HDR-supporting PC displays ever made.

I totally thought this was out tonight and came home hyped to play it.

    Aw.

am currently counting down the 1 hour 31 minutes till it unlocks here. so close, yet so far...

Where are you, and did you buy digitally? Because my understanding is that the digital stores generally just pick 12am EST as the default time the entire world has to wait, which would make that 6 hours from now as of this post.

...Which means it unlocks at 1AM my time, because hey, fuck the Atlantic time zone. :)

UK, bought digitally yeah and it unlocks at midnight local time.

Fuck 'dat. Canada is part of the Commonwealth, we have your damn queen on our money. Why do we have to wait while you get it?!

Dont know if my Target goofed or what, but they had RDR2 out for sale. Looked like they had 10 special editions too.

Naturally this was the first time I ever preordered a game on Amazon.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween

It was not until mass Irish and Scottish immigration in the 19th century that Halloween became a major holiday in North America.[117] Confined to the immigrant communities during the mid-19th century, it was gradually assimilated into mainstream society and by the first decade of the 20th century it was being celebrated coast to coast by people of all social, racial and religious backgrounds.[118] "In Cajun areas, a nocturnal Mass was said in cemeteries on Halloween night. Candles that had been blessed were placed on graves, and families sometimes spent the entire night at the graveside".[119] The yearly New York Halloween Parade, begun in 1974 by puppeteer and mask maker Ralph Lee of Greenwich Village, is the world's largest Halloween parade and one of America's only major nighttime parades (along with Portland's Starlight Parade), attracting more than 60,000 costumed participants, two million spectators, and a worldwide television audience of over 100 million.[120]

I get the impression that whichever platform has the absolute best visuals will be noticed (without prompting) by about 0.002 percent of the gaming population.

I'm gonna play it on my PS4 and be happy.

It's actually incredibly stark if you actually watch the Digital Foundry video. It's the difference between blurry checker boarding and actual 2160p resolution (though I assume they use adaptive res on the One X, so it probably drops to like 1800p'ish at points). On a 4K TV the differences between those two things is very noticeable. The hyperbolic shade throwing at people who care about this kind of stuff is unnecessary.

You should absolutely enjoy the game on whatever console you have access to. Doesn't diminish that for those of us with access to both there was a decision to be made for which there is a clear and quantifiable correct choice.

Counterpoint: I can barely tell the difference between games running on Pro and non-pro consoles on TVs 60 inches or smaller as it is, and I'm not the only one. Graphical improvement have become so small and granular to the naked eye I'm kind of amazed this kind of comparison has gained much traction.

I notice way more difference with HDR than I do with resolution.

You don't get HDR without higher resolutions anyway, because it's kind of a major part of how it's implemented (it's a reason why you won't find "normal HD" televisions with HDR implementation used by...well, anything by now, even though 1080p sets are still sold plenty).

I see much bigger improvement in visual quality with 1440p and 2160p than "just HDR", but that's because not everyone does HDR right yet. It's harder to fuck up something as straightforward as "higher resolution". To each their own though.

What I meant was that I noticed, appreciated but was not blown away by the resolution increase, but when I finally got HDR working on my PS4 (there was a bug that kept it from working on LG OLED’s for awhile), I was impressed by the difference.

My insane hype for this game is looking justified, but the actual release is coming at the worst possible time.

I just bought AC and SC6, and while I’ll definitely hop on for fighting mans occasionally, that beautiful open world game I was completely invested in has been completely forgotten as I stare at a countdown timer instead.

This game is even better looking in realtime than the videos even showed. Playing on the X here. The opening parts are really well done and lighting, for an open-world game or otherwise, is superbly done. Can't wait to see other locations.

One thing that’s bothering me is how sticky the aiming is. Once the game decides on what I’m shooting at there’s nothing that I can do to move the reticle to another target.

I was a little worried about visual fidelity on the PS4 Pro, but the game looks gorgeous. I'm only playing on a 1080p tv so I'm pretty sure I'm not taking advantage of any of the Pro enhancements (maybe I missed something, but I didnt see anything to super sample or whatever some games let you do if you're on a PS4 Pro at 1080p).

Made it to the first camp camp and now I apparently have 2 wallets? Whats up with that?

Also, no mini map/compass is amazing.

One wallet is what toy carry with you, the other is what the camp has in the kitty. I don't recall which is which unfortunately. Usually the bigger number is your original wallet because FUCK YOU, YA LEECHES FEEDING OFF MY HARD WORK!

I hate when open-world games do this. Is there at least a toggle option for a mini map or compass?

When choosing nothing, tapping down on d pad brings up a temporary minimap that vanishes after around 3 seconds. It's really thoughtful.

Set my internal alarm clock to half past midnight. Didn't want to use my actual alarm and wake my wife up, lol. Played from then until about 4:30 before crashing. Now I'm at work, and all I can think about is doing home and playing it more tonight. Can't wait. I'm a short ways into chapter 2. Absolutely loving it so far.

I'm sure this doesn't apply to anyone in this thread, but just a gentle reminder. If you can't afford to purchase RDR2 for PS4 at this time for whatever reason, please consider trying your luck donating at least $5 to my Extra-Life. I will be raffling off a copy of Red Dead 2 on November 10th!

Both of my copies should be arriving today, and I intend on streaming as soon as I get home.

Reviewers who talked about this suggested they navigated by landmarks, rivers, train tracks, coast lines, landscape features.
