Yeah, that's not a completely terrible trade-in price.

You got a link to that trade in offer jimb213 ? I'm assuming the RDR2 in the bundle is a digital download, but with 1TB it probably isn't that bad. Only like 1/10 of the hard drive.
Oh nevermind, that's just the regular trade in value. I might actually do this too. Then I can give away two copies during Extra-Life.
Double Edit -
The Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 Pro bundle includes a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 on Blu-ray Disc, a Jet Black PS4 Pro, and a DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller.
Oh fuck it's a physical copy, I think I'm definitely doing this.
How viable is playing without a minimap or compass? Are there signs and etc to let you navigate organically?
Reviewers who talked about this suggested they navigated by landmarks, rivers, train tracks, coast lines, landscape features.
The sun?
I'm playing it without the minimap and yeah, you just look at the world around you. There's also signs on road that point to towns. And if you're with an npc, their dialog changes to explain which turn to take but not like a GPS would. More natural, like "hey, turn right after those trees" or "I think we gotta go around those rocks".
I'm finding I like Arthur a lot more than John so far. I'm still early, but just his manner of speaking and carrying himself he's not as aggro as John. Also its super easy to piss off the law like whoa...
First death was to a horse kick to my head, I felt like an idiot there.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Oh, I recommend galloping full tilt, head first into a tree! It is the best animation I've seen all year

How do I change which is my main horse?
Did it, also uhh hit a carnival tent cable...
Also I like that they kept some continuity from RDR 1 to RDR 2. Minor spoiler about a returning character from like right at the start
Arthur also treats uncle like shit.
Already had to kill a cougar, they aren't fucking around there is some nasty wildlife near your starting area once the game opens up.

Holy shit really? That's fantastic.
Bear in mind that it's still a videogame so you fo get a generic direction but yeah it's definitely leagues above any other system.
Pro-tip, while riding your horse you can just hammer L3 to pat 'em and increase your bond that way. Makes it real easy to max the bond while not going out of your way

Yeah, the fact that it's a physical copy is pretty great! I've read some criticism about the gameplay and design choices that have tempered my enthusiasm a bit, so I definitely want a physical copy to trade in if I find I agree with the criticisms.

i imagine it gets easier as you go, once you get a better sense for the landscape and where things are in relation to one another. until then even with the mini map off, its only ever a button press away if you do get lost and need a gentle nudge in the right direction.
How long is the install and download time on a regular PS4? Time is barely trickling by here at work, and I'd like to mentally prepare myself for the "hurry the help up" wait I'll be facing when I finally get out of here.

If you do the digital version it says that additional installation files are needed over the 100gigs of space it takes up regardless. So it looks to do some caching from the disc.
So thats about 150gigs. Over ps network..... that could be awhile.
Oh also, anyone playing on PS4 Pro? I haven't played anything in a while that makes the fan really go "VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" crazy. Wondering how well it handles this game.
Admittedly I'm playing on a 1080p TV, but my Pro has been silent.

Disc based version for me. Can't recall how big AC Odyssey install was, but I do remember it going pretty quick.
Now that some people have played, anyone else on the One X and noticing that thing pumping out a TON of heat?
This is normal. Both my PS4 Pro and One X will toss a ton of heat out when playing anything in the "enhanced modes". The PS4 Pro is a bit louder about it, it spins it's fan up pretty high, but they both push tons of heat out.
That said, make sure you don't put either console in an enclosed space. They need plenty of air flow.
I am really liking all of the characters so far. This is less spaghetti western and more...adult, morally grey kind of themes. I love me some spaghetti westerns, but this is less TombstoneA Fistful of Dollars and more Once Upon A Time in Mexico
Edit: Tombstone is not really a spaghetti western, now that I think about it
Got a little bit of time in between last night and this morning. Just past the intro. I'll put this in spoilers because I know some people like to discover everything organically, but no story spoilers:
My first thought is I wanted to go look around Valentine so I ride down there and I'm walking through town on my horse, being as friendly as possible, just greeting everyone. Then within 30 seconds of coming into town I accidentally step on someone with my horse and he runs off and tells the sheriff. I'm like "Whoa whoa, that was an accident, maybe I can just talk to them and explain the situation!" I've got a $5 bounty on my head suddenly, so I walk over to them and nobody is shooting at me so I look at my options: Surrender, Defuse, Shoot, basically. I'm like "defuse? That sounds PERFECT for this situation! It was an accident!" ....they don't respond well to my attempt and start shooting. I run out of town and they're following, I only saw two coming after me so I'm like "screw it, I'll just kill these guys." So I kill them. Then suddenly a bunch more guys show up and I have to run an hide for awhile.
TLDR: I now have a $55 bounty on my head in the starting town after spending all of 5 minutes in the open world. I give this game 10/10 Rockstars.

Done, and done.
Pleasantly surprised it is only estimating 80 minutes for a 366GB transfer of everything. The clerk in the store made it seem like it would take all night to transfer everything.
I had the classic Rockstar moment during the early stage of their game, when I still care about my character’s ‘morality’, where I find myself going out of my way to do some kind of good deed or play the game properly- only to accidentally shoot an innocent person in the face just as I was about to complete that task. Which then allowed me to become the absolute psychopath I was destined to be. It’s good to be back.

Super early Ch.2 spoiler:
I was trying to find the girls in the town, and got to the one in the hotel being harrassed. The fistfight begins to start up, and I hit R2... and brutally stab the guy right in the chest. Because oh right, punch is Circle. Uh... oops. And after I promised the innkeeper I wouldn't cause trouble.
The last few games I've played have either had dashing or all attacks including melee on R2. So I keep instinctively hitting it, to hilarious results.

I punched that guy and he appeared to crack his neck in half on the mantel.
I was dicking around in the wilderness and came across a guy getting mauled by a wolf. Afterwards he's screaming in pain, and the options are to give him medicine, give him booze, or pull your gun. I was planning on reloading anyways, so just for kicks I pull the gun.
"...Yeah! Do it, do it!"
:eh:
Not the response I was expecting, to be honest.

Whoops
I almost shot the guy in the next room who was on the toilet, high fived myself for not giving in to my hyperactive trigger finger, then promptly did the exact same thing.
Pleasantly surprised by how well it runs on my OG Xbone... but then I'm still on a 720p TV so the resolution deficit doesn't matter. Still one of the best-looking games I've seen the system push. Pretty remarkable.
I'm up to the very start of chapter 2, haven't left the camp yet. Very, very impressed so far.
I'm also doing a no compass/minimap run, and trying to minimize how much I use the pause menu map. I hit a snag early on driving a wagon, when I was told to stay on "this" path for a bit. Well, the path had a fork and I took the wrong one and almost \got a mission failed screen. Not a big deal, the mission directions since then have all been perfect. I just expected someone to yell that I took the wrong turn, instead of a mission fail.
I also picked up a mission to bounty hunt and was told the target was "North by the ravine". I used my physical map to find out which way was north compared to the town (half the reason I'm playing this way) and headed off. Well, turns out the ravine is massive, so I had a few adventures exploring it before I found the target. This is exactly what I want out of not using a map/minimap, but I could see it being frustrating for people that are expecting everything to have good directions.
I've gotten maybe 5 hours in so far, I'm part way into Chapter 2.
First off, playing on an Xbox X on a 1080p tv this game is ridiculously good looking. And for the first time in a Rockstar game I like most of the characters at least so far. Nearly everyone at the camp is cool people, and the rare execption is still interesting in a "... you know at some point I'm gonna kill you" kind of way.
Question, does anyone else have this weird thing where theirs kind of a fuzzy aura around Arthur when you move the camera? It's only occasionally, but it's noticeable.
I really appreciate that their second time out with western weapons they made them feel more westerny? Like now you have a legit reason to use one type of revolver over another other than "this one does more damage" the length of time on reloading say the schofield over the cattlemans is really noticeable. And imagine its the same for the repeater variants but I only have the first one you start with.
But along with that combat kicks my ass way more than in RDR.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

All of this depends on knowing what direction towns and etc are in. I guess there's an in-game map you can consult
I tried this with Witcher 3 and found it really annoying to navigate inside towns
