That is very true, and while I love my Wii and its games, I recognize this post of yours as being the reason why so many gamers are disappointed by it: the Wii represents a lot of wasted opportunities, or if not wasted, at least opportunities no one has seized yet. Hopefully this Mario Tennis game and the upcoming Punch Out will already fill in some of the holes.

The sorry thing is that there's no reason a proper Wii Tennis game couldn't be made. There's a market for it, and there is a perfect outline of how to do the controls properly, that has been laid out for developers since the system's launch.

All they have to do is take the skeleton of Wii Sports Tennis and flesh it out. It's so simple and in such demand. Too bad that third parties are too focused on making yet another Golf or yet another Bowling or yet another Boxing. Only the Golf games seemed to have truly nailed that design on the Wii, in an excellent and meaningful way. Not sure about the latter two; heard mixed reviews about the anime-inspired Boxing game, but most Bowling games are shovelware. At least N is making a new punchout.

I still wish some talented developer and intelligent publisher would put out a proper Wii Tennis game. But I guess they've left it up to Nintendo yet again to do what needs to be done; even though Nintendo gave them a wide open window of opportunity these past couple of years and nobody's taken them up on the offer. The offer to make a good game and sell it to a substantial demand.

I really hope both MP1 and 2 get the Wii Play Control treatment here in the US.

I wonder if they are going to modify anything in the game itself other than the controls.

And did anyone else notice how the other beams were in the video but didn't show how they're selected?
Hopefully its not an onscreen menu because that would make some later portions where your switching beams a lot annoying as hell.

May have been addressed, not sure. When the hell is that adapter thing that goes on the wii mote coming out? And if it's soon, why didn't Nintendo wait for that? Or, will they release another version of the same game with extra enhanced wii controls that everyone will buy? I love Nintendo like the next gamer but I could have waited a few months for a bit more immersion and precise controls (if that's possible with that thing) maybe some extras, than get the same game I've already played to death on the Gamecube.

I bet they've been thinking that Nintendo's been making one themselves for the last two years, precisely BECAUSE it's so obvious and because they have most of the code already for Wii Tennis, and they don't want to start making the game and then have Nintendo beat them to release.

You know what Gamecube game they should release with Wii controls? LoZ:TP. I think it could work.

    Or Wind Waker.

Personally, I'd love to see how new controls might benefit Luigi's Mansion, or if it would make Super Mario Sunshine any more appealing.

I'd sort of like to give Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat a try, since it has added levels and enemies and such. Sadly, without the bongos, I hear it seems like a fairly mundane platformer.

Here's an interesting question... do you think N64 games would still hold up today as great games if Nintendo updated their graphics, gave them waggle (or at least a choice) and re-released them? Because to my mind, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Mario 64, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Banjo-Kazooie and loads of others are as good, if not better, than many of the games we see today. All that's really missing is the "fresh" factor, the feeling that hey, this is a new game. Do you think that people who haven't played them yet would like them as much as we liked them back then? I know some have been released for Virtual Console, and Mario 64 has already had a DS iteration, but imagine Mario 64 in Mario Galaxy's graphics. Ocarina of Time with Twilight Princess textures.

One big problem is that Nintendo would have to divert precious resources, already stretched thin with all their projects, to develop models with higher poly counts, higher resolution textures, and waggle control. But then again, they could take some of the squillions they're making this month alone and hire a team to do it. Does Nintendo think that they'd sell?

Because I would certainly buy. Or am I just stirring up trouble? People don't have to buy rehashes but a lot of console owners get pissed to high hell when they hear about it. Like it's a personal affront or something.

I've been big on this idea for a while now, particularly on Super Mario 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Especially if it was Super Mario 64 DS remade with Wii graphics. And hey, most of the stuff for Mario is done already, so I don't think it would take too much of their resources. OoT, a little more, but at least there's a head start with Super Smash Bros. Melee's models.

Maybe they could get Tose to do it.

As far as holding up, I've never been a fan of the graphics of the PS1/N64 era at all, with some odd exceptions (MegaMan Legends, for one).

Speaking of the Wiimakes ... are there any vids/descriptions of how the Mario Power Tennis Wiimake plays? That's the only one of this series I'm interested in picking up, if it echoes Wii Tennis's playability.

And for the heck of it, here's DK Jungle Beat:

Anyway, I got the first Metroid Prime, and while I found what little I played of it enjoyable, something just seemed missing, something to kind of hook me. Corruption seemed to have that, and I think I just like the control scheme more, so I'm curious, eager, and hopeful in trying this.

Why the hell is this $40? Price seen at the end of the first video link of the thread is 3,800 Yen, A.K.A. $40. It's as if they want to charge $50 again, but figure they can't quite get away with it.

I'm really not cool with N low-balling re-releases and charging full price, especially so when there's stuff like Final Fantasy IV DS to compare against.

Exactly. There's often a discrepansy between Japanese/American price, if matched right against each other.

I'd be very surprised if these were more than $30, if only because of the precedent that Resident Evil 4 set.

Game prices usually don't change with the changing of currency. There's also regional pricing to consider. The Yen is very strong right now so a straight up conversion won't work. Looking at Amazon's Japanese site, Wii games are often 5500 yen or more. That's over $60 US and yet no Wii game has ever been more than $50.

People who have played this game before and already own it: This game is not for you. It's for the millions of Wii owners that didn't play the game the first time around.

I don't see why they can't charge full price, though I would guess $40...just because it might sell better at that price.

Fuck that..I played through Prime 1 and 2 like 6 times...this game is just for me.

It's like Nintendo heard me in the shower in 2007 thinking, "man, a 16:9 Wii version of the first two Metroid Primes would kick some serious ass".

Basically, the only way it could ever cost anything less than 35$ is if it was just a straight port, no new Wiimote support, GCN controller only.

The work involved to retool it for Wii is much greater than just recompiling and printing new discs.

Certainly, but it's not like budget titles are finished in five minutes either. The development costs for this must have been a small fraction of what it takes to develop a real full-priced game. It's unreasonable to price it any higher than the budget game level.

It is the first time getting those titles for some people, and for them, it's just as much of an AAA title as it was back on the Gamecube.

Wouldn't a straight port that only supports the GCN controller be... exactly the same as using the GC version? Since the Wii is backwards compatible with GC games and all...

If they could somehow add VO to the important story-related scans and reduce the opening time of doors, I'd buy the game at 60$. Easy.

Without those two things I can't see myself ever replaying MP, regardless of how much I loved it the first time around. Which was so much.
