360 is dead...now what?

Well my 360 died today, it started freezing a lot and then when I went to start it up I got the 3 red rings. It is past it's standard warranty, but I guess there is an extended warranty that covers the 3 red rings. I'm filling out the form at Microsoft to send it back and I have that problem selected, only thing is now when I turn my 360 it still freezes and won't work at all, but it hasn't come up with the 3 rings again. Will they check this when I send it in and deny my claim on the extended warranty? Or will I be fine even if they don't come on again? One final question, I'm guessing I pop out the harddrive before I send it to them?

Thanks for the help.

If they deem the problem not a red-ring they'll charge you. I'd send it in anyway if I were you. It's worth the risk.

Take the hard drive off. They put this in the instructions they send you.

I'm assuming the red rings are just an obvious symptom of a common defect that they could verify if they wanted.....I doubt they look into these things past checking for obvious physical damage.

I would pop out the hard drive and just note that I had done so on the form.

Call customer support, go through the steps with them and explain the red rings. Its covered under warranty, they'll send you a box, ship it and you'll get it back in two weeks. I went through and didn't pay a dime, my machine was even bought refurbished and it was 100% covered.

I just had to do this as well. Yeah you take the hard drive and anything else off of the machine (meaning new front panels or the wireless thing if you have it) before you send it in.

Exactly. You'll have to redownload stuff like rockband songs and what not but you won't have to pay for them again. Also they give you a free month's worth of gold membership for your trouble ;].
