thor got, I've read about these guest passes, but how does it work? As your offering, could you please give me a guest pass? I don't know what to do, but I'd imagine you'll need my steam email address. Should I message it to you?

Yes. You either need an email address, or to be my friend on steam.

And as an Elite player, you will see Demon666 or whatever name invading your game, and you're like, "Oh, no! Not him -- he's a super [player-killer]." Having a PK is actually really good here, compared to some games where PKs aren't respectable.
If Demon666 joined my game, I would be more amused than scared.
Also, it sounds like there is some sort of ranking system, but they can't really demonstrate the game fully because there are only 40 players.
Grar. Managed to track down which email it was, but I can't remember who my childhood hero was now.
Ru Paul.
No but seriously, Steam has a password recover feature that should work...unless you forgot the password to your e-mail.
Which is I think what I was trying. I have to give a code, and answer the secret question. then it lets me change my password. However, I can't answer the question.

Oh I could've sworn it was one of those "put in your account name and we'll send the password to the registered e-mail" types of things.

The idea sounds fantastic, but my two reservations are: The elites look way powerful, which I guess is the point, and it seems like it could get annoying trying to get through the single player portion and being stopped and forced to wait a turn or something.
About to play Sin, but should I bother playing the Sin 1 or can I just start up Sin: Emergence with no worries?

Sin Episode 1 is so poorly designed as far as story goes, you'll still be lost even if you play Sin 1.
D :
...okay, so the story wasn't great, but I found Sin Ep1 to be a blast. Too bad we'll never see Episode 2.
Dude; WHAT story? The plot was more vague and empty than Half-Life 2 and Gears of War put together. They don't explain anything about what happened inbetween Sin 1 and Sin Episodes; about any of the characters (Especially the ones new to SiN like Jessica or Roddik) or just about any of the events during the game.
It may be a side effect of being an episodic release, but we were told they would be able to stand alone, and so far it's failed massively to deliver on that promise.

Yeah, I can agree with this. I played SiN 1 before I did Ep1 just to make sure I didn't miss any story. Needless to say by the time I finished SiN 1 I didn't know what the fuck was going on and when I finished Ep1, I still didn't know what the fuck was going on. Both games felt more like a shooting gallery than anything else.
Tried playing a bit of 1, but I just buckled and started Emergence.
It's been fun so far, but character development and sympathy this game has not.

Yet, despite all this I still found it fun. What the hell is happening at Ritual? I want Episode 2.

Don't get me wrong... even though the story was no where to be seen, I still at least enjoyed the run-and-gun gameplay. To bad there wasn't anything of really wanted...

Wow, not only is Rag Doll Kung Foo $5, but Painkiller plus its expansion are $18. And Valve is apparently slightly interested in that Black Mesa thing too.
New to Steam this week is the release of the Painkiller Gold Edition. This package includes the original game along with the Battle Out of Hell expansion pack. The entire package is available for $17.95, down from $19.95 until the end of this month.
Congratulations to the Black Mesa for Half-Life 2 MOD team for picking up the Most Anticipated MOD Award for the coming year from Mod DB. Over 80,000 votes were cast for MODs built for a number of different games, and they have been crowned this year's most wanted. More information on this ambitious project to recreate Half-Life 1 from scratch in the Source engine is available on their site. We're as eager to play it here as everyone else.
We're also offering a discount on one of the first third-party games to ever be released on Steam, Rag Doll Kung Fu can be yours for just $4.95 if you buy it before February 8th.
Wasn't Painkiller supposed to be great? I might pick it up.

Unless you don't like Batman.
That was my understanding as well.
Hell yeah, hopefully.
This video at gametrailers makes it look like it's pretty far along in development: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/8615

Yeah, I linked an article and video in reply, too.
Nobody seemed to latch on. Needless to say, it looks incredibly hot, and the idea is really interesting from a multiplayer aspect.
I came.

That looks amazing.
Painkiller was a lot of fun. Think a darker Serious Sam minus some of the sarcasm.

Add the original Quake into the mix and I think that just about nails it.
