I want to know what they're doing to fight against those websites that are basically cheat subscription services that guarantee no detection or a free new account if banned.
Those are pretty cool. Makes me want to get back into mapping, but then I remember just how much time it takes to create something half way decent and I just kinda go 'ehhhhh'
I am assuming Spies don't gain the speed bonuses or penalties of their stolen identities, so a scout that isn't running or slightly faster heavy would be something to watch out for.

I think the main thing that doesn't make me worry much about TF2 is that when you see stuff like the idle animation for the Pyro, it is so obvious the game is a labor of love.
Semi-related: I played some TFC last night on a server that seemed fairly modded out, stat tracking and all that. Anyway, when engineers would wrench their sentry guns to upgrade them, a little heart would appear over the gun. It was pretty amusing, but has that always happened in TFC and I never noticed, or was that a mod like I think it was? That should totally be in TF2.
I remember in TFC there were tricked-out scripts and custom commandmenus that would disguise you and automatically set your speed to match the class you were being disguised as (if it was slower). With all the care that they're putting into making spies fun to play, I wouldn't be surprised if they built that in somehow.

Profile -> Signature Settings -> Hide signatures always. Then you don't have to read this worthless text anymore.
I tried it. One map (well, two, but it's just a night version and a day version) and nobody running any servers. Nothing else new so I uninstalled it and forgot about it.

We should definitely expect user-created content, judging by the wealth of content that sprang from the free release of Portal’s progenitor, Narbacular Drop. “We have any easy-to-use way of getting maps into Portal and loading them up,†says Swift. “We’re definitely looking forward to seeing what people create. We’re going to be releasing our FGD and an SDK update so people can use what we’re using.†That should happen soon after Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal launch together [in October].
Though nobody was expecting any less, it's still nice to know.

I didn't know they were shooting for a release in October. Awesome.
Also, user-made Portal maps makes me very, very, VERY happy.
There's actually a game on thread round about the place. Might bump it in a little while.
It's nice that the mapping community are starting to get behind it, but man, some of the maps are pretty awful. They could've done with being held back for testing for a bit longer.
does the G-man screenshot look like it's inside Black mesa?
Just you. If you look, what it really looks like is it's in Aperture Science. The wall and glass textures are the same, except the brownish one with the vents behind the gman, [irrelevant]which is in fact an air exchange texture originally[/irrelevant]. This is perfectly possible, and intrigues the fuck out of me. The CRT monitor I initially lol'd at could be explained by the fact that the employees at aperture are apparently using 20-year-old technology according to www.aperturescience.com. Also, Aperture sounds like it's run by a right dick, concievably the gman, who does have a fascination with those who adapt and survive against all odds, as they remind him of himself. Anyone who gets through the testing at Aperture would quite definitely fit that criteria.
This is of course wild conjecture, but they did say we'd find out more about Aperture in Episode 2 than in Portal.

Just don't spam him with useless crap or whatever. He's nice enough to be accessible; don't take advantage of it.
Still doin' that highschool thing.
Forgot the fucking cubemaps on the lower areas.
Very WIP indeed. Not all these shots are pretty, because they're just to show progress to those marking.

But is a spy disguised as a heavy, as slow as a real heavy?

Who's going to attempt to play this with me?
Yes, that was my point.
A good spy will avoid scouts and heavies, because if they aren't standing still they'll give themselves away.
Wonder how long the medics invincibility shield lasts.

Edit: Also, downloading Shredded Sails now, looks interesting.

Still has a lot of work left though
I'd hit it. Let us know when you're finished, it looks really nice.
Here's my latest shit, though you will have seen some of it. http://lacobra.flyingstove.com/
Includes tricks video and some shutdown2 screenshots.

Is this mod any good?

And I want another TF2 character movie
It has a handful of new TF2 screenshots though, interspersed amongst the many we've already seen/screenshots from the videos we've seen.
Some TF2

Since we're direct linking images, here's a few more TF2 shots you missed. I haven't seen them before so I'm pretty sure they're new:
