does the G-man screenshot look like it's inside Black mesa?
Just you. If you look, what it really looks like is it's in Aperture Science. The wall and glass textures are the same, except the brownish one with the vents behind the gman, [irrelevant]which is in fact an air exchange texture originally[/irrelevant]. This is perfectly possible, and intrigues the fuck out of me. The CRT monitor I initially lol'd at could be explained by the fact that the employees at aperture are apparently using 20-year-old technology according to www.aperturescience.com. Also, Aperture sounds like it's run by a right dick, concievably the gman, who does have a fascination with those who adapt and survive against all odds, as they remind him of himself. Anyone who gets through the testing at Aperture would quite definitely fit that criteria.
This is of course wild conjecture, but they did say we'd find out more about Aperture in Episode 2 than in Portal.
I like how you called the G-Man a "right dick". It suits him, don't get me wrong, I just wasn't expecting it. I lol'd hard
So I never played VTM:Bloodlines. All the bugginess kept me from ever buying it. Should I pony up the 20 bucks and be downloading it right now? How much have the unofficial patches changed the game? Any bad changes? Also, I heard the combat was kind of weak. Do they do anything to improve that?

Bought it recently over steam been playing it and having fun but hate hate HATE the fact that keys tend to stick in the game. (Moving foward LONG after I stopped pressing "W")
I thought combat was fine, personally: but that was maybe just because I was expecting a pure RPG (i.e., shit fighting). But don't expect your control input to have much effect, it's all down to stats.
It suffers from the Deus Ex problem with low-skill firearms: it's true to the tabletop incarnation, so at low levels it's more or less pointless using a gun.
I can't advise on fan-patches because there seems to be two or different guys releasing major ones, but unpatched, it has some nasty crash bugs, progress-blocking errors in quests and godawful unoptimisation in exterior areas. Stability aside, read up on the unofficial patches carefully, because some of them have inexplicable mods added into them which change the game in ways you might not want (difficultly, removal of weapons etc.).
But man, did I love the game. Despite having to reload every thirty minutes...
V:TM - B is very close to being my favorite game of all time. As far as I'm concerned it's far better than HL2, and I really liked HL2. It's apparently pretty buggy (STILL) on a lot of computers but it worked fine on mine with the latest fan patch, or the latest a few months ago. I would recommend it wholeheartedly if you like stuff like Deus Ex.

Once in the game, alt tab, and then get to your windows task manager and then set vampire's priority to lowest.

If you like RPGs, and you don't have Bloodlines, thats a problem.
And the combat is great. Its pure realtime, so its alot more fun than most RPGs. Definately better than Kotor, Elder Scrolls, NWN, etc.
Yeah I'm drunk on gin this will probably happen. I did like the first VTM, but the party AI ended up killing it for me being total shit.
Luckily no party in this one. :P
If you can over looks some annoying characters and situations that come with the VTM setting then it's a pretty fun game.
I just got to the
Hotel. Creepiest level ever. The Shining scared the shit out of me as a kid, and its still one of my favorite movies. Also I might be wrong but is my first contact in this game voiced by Bender? So awesome.

I don't want to ruin your parade but things outside santa monica really becomes less spectacular. It's like they spent most of their time and effort into 1/3 of the game.
And yes, that is bender. If you listen carefully, you can detect similar speech patterns, except a bit raspier.
A tip for anyone starting VTM: Stealth is your friend. I lost count of the number of people I did the ol' necksnap 1-hit kill to during the game. Quiet, easy, and allows you to dictate the flow of battle. That said, I forever loved the combat in VTM after the epic shootout I had in the Yakuza warehouse. No other game has come close to the awesomeness of that firefight, and I don't usually like FPS combat.
Just as I finish talking to a regretful confidant, bullets come spraying through the window of his office. The poor sod managed only a couple of shots before falling back dead. I tear out the door and dash for a pillar to avoid being cornered. Using the pillar for cover, with some thugs crouching and spraying near the end of the catwalk while others run up between them to rush me, I duck out every now and again to fire off a couple of shots from my bigass revolver before ducking back behind again to avoid another hail of gunfire. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a squad of 4 guys trying to sneak around another side and flank me, and pop them before they can get a shot off, then quickly swing around the other way only to hear a click. I switch to a previously looted uzi, and then engage the much hated mob once again.
God damn that Tremere ruled. I never even used blood disciplines that much, but she was so much fun to play. I love that game.
I thought the whole point of having Valve's Steam was to get away from all this copy protection shenanigans? O_o
Retail version has Starforce, downloadable version does not. Both still interact with each other through online play, so I'm guessing Valve is throwing a warning out to those buying the retail version.

CAPCOM® GETS STEAMED
First Japanese Video Game Company Signs on to Offer Multiple PC Games Through Valve's Leading Digital Distribution Platform
SAN MATEO, Calif , June 11, 2007 - Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, and Valve® today announced an agreement that brings a collection of Capcom's current and future PC games to Valve's Steam digital distribution service. Under the arrangement, PC versions of Lost PlanetT: Extreme Condition, Onimusha® 3, Devil May Cry® 3: Special Edition, Super Puzzle FighterTM II Turbo HD Remix, and future PC titles will be made available via the leading online distribution platform. Capcom is the first major Japanese software publisher to sign on with Steam.
"Capcom is a worldwide leader in development and publishing of action adventure titles," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "This initial set of Capcom titles coming to Steam, as well as those coming at a later date, are a perfect fit for the millions of action gaming fans connecting to Steam each week."
Steam is the only full-featured broadband platform for the delivery and management of games and digital content, and has pioneered its broadband services to over 13 million customers with core and casual games from today's leading publishers and developers.
"With the PC market becoming a larger part of our business, we're naturally focusing our attention on digital distribution," said Mark Beaumont, executive vice president, officer, Capcom American and European consumer software publishing. "Steam is the right place for us to go with our titles. Valve has created a huge installed base of gamers who naturally fit with the profiles of the titles that Capcom develops."
Available later this week, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition is an action game that follows the stylish demon-slayer Dante as he uses swords and guns to wage a nonstop, one-man battle against the demon world in order to carry out a 2000 year-old revenge.
Coming in the next few weeks, Onimusha 3 is an action game that travels in time between the 16th century Japan and modern-day Paris, pitting two heroes (one a samurai, the other a modern-day fighter played by actor Jean Reno) against a horde of other-dimensional evil.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a critically-acclaimed third person action game from an all-star team of Capcom's game designers, will be available day and date with the retail version of the PC game, currently scheduled for June 26.
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix downloads Capcom's incredibly popular puzzle game into the new generation, featuring enhanced 1080p HD graphics, several new game modes, improved game balance, and online play and will be available later this year.

Street Fighter is either a registered trademark or trademark of Capcom U.S.A., Inc. in the U.S. or other countries.
In the face of this, I don't see how Microsoft can charge $50 for their service that doesn't even let you buy games online. I know the $50 is for the Gold package, but a lot of features are tied into that, including matchmaking and VOIP.
Given that Source games have VOIP built in, and they'll soon have matchmaking very similar to Live matchmaking I don't know why any PC gamer would elect to pay the MS fee.

God damn that Tremere ruled. I never even used blood disciplines that much, but she was so much fun to play. I love that game.
I started as a Brujah so I could yell, "hey I'm playing a Blackula" at my room mate. Their powers aren't all that amazing though. The mezmerise thing is kind of nice, but nothing all that special. I'll probably just finish it with this guy though, basically I just melee everything down, and shoot guys if there are two many of them and I can't be sneaky. I kind of want to play a Malkavian though so I can do Obfuscate and be sneaky, or a Tremere for the blood magic.
I'm not sure how you can like the shooting so much. It is very clunky, not horrible or anything, but most firefights can be resolved by hiding around a corner, and just popping out to shoot guys over and over. At least so far.
Yeah I need to mess around with Celerity more, but it really doesn't seem to help all that much. You still get shot a lot, maybe its because its only level 2.
So Trackmania United's being released on Steam on thursday, and you can buy it for 20% off right now. 23$ seems like a pretty reasonable price, and the Trackmania games have always kicked a lot of ass. Anyone else planning on picking this up?
I also noticed they finally dropped Dark Messiah down to 20 bucks, which is almost low enough I'm thinking about buying it.
Has there been any mention on whether or not well be able to buy the Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 package by itself on Steam? Im dissapointed that they dropped the box release of just those three, making me rebuy Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 again.

Uh, they specifically mentioned in that announcement that it would be Steam only.
EDIT: And before anyone flips out, I'm talking about the "HL2: Ep2 + Portal + TF2" package being exclusive to Steam. They'll still be releasing the "HL2 + Episode 1 + Episode 2 + Portal + TF2" retail package for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
Figured I'd nip that in the bud before someone freaked out.

Odd, I dont recall Steam purchasing options being mentioned at all in the announcement, just that the retail Black Box is no longer an option. But if I can just get that on Steam anyways groovy, I bought HL2 and EP1 through Steam anyways so its not a problem for me.

I never asked for this!
I just got to the
And I was very happy with the hotel level- injected some very welcome variety and it was atmospheric as hell.
The source engine is horribly outdated.
