Strangely I used to despise Steam, because I had dial-up and the beta was unforgiveably sadistic and invasive.
But considering other programs can corrupt on a whim (collosal World in Conflict beta and Overlord demo? I'm looking at you, "recommended" GameSpot download manager!) I consider how much data I've recieved over Steam with little difficulty. I love the damn thing now.
I don't download anything from gamespot anymore. Ever since they did the whole, "if you subscribe you get faster downloads" thing it takes forever to get anything, even small patches, from them. I just go to filefront or whatever.
Has there been any mention on whether or not well be able to buy the Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 package by itself on Steam? Im dissapointed that they dropped the box release of just those three, making me rebuy Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 again.
Uh, they specifically mentioned in that announcement that it would be Steam only.
EDIT: And before anyone flips out, I'm talking about the "HL2: Ep2 + Portal + TF2" package being exclusive to Steam. They'll still be releasing the "HL2 + Episode 1 + Episode 2 + Portal + TF2" retail package for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
Figured I'd nip that in the bud before someone freaked out.
Sweet. Since I don't own Episode 1 I wont have to get it by itself.
You know what would be awesome on Steam? All the old LucasArts adventure games.
You know that would be the greatest thing ever.
That's what I was thinking of when I suggested classic games but it would be even more awesome if Lucasarts just put up every single one of their old games.
Imagine, Secret of Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Tie Fighter, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, KotOR I and II, and Battlefront II all in just one click.
Politely telling naysayers who expected the games to miss their 2007 launch to eat crowbar, Valve has confirmed to Chris Remo of Shacknews that its upcoming Source trio will ship for all intended platforms on October 9th. The suite is comprised of warped puzzler Portal, stylized multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2, and continued scientist savior sim Half-Life 2: Episode Two. The collection will be sold through Valve's online Steam service as well as in a retail package.
The EA-distributed Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, which also contains Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One, will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 for $59.99, with the PC version priced at $49.99.

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 had a launch date of May 1st... It didn't actually get here until June.
And lets not get into the September 30th fiasco.
I won't worry about when it's due out until I actually get my hands on it.
I'll believe it when the preload becomes available :P
That's another reason why I've grown to like Steam- I like watching my files crawl towards 100% and knowing that I can play it the moment it's released.
Despite, you know, the current inexplicable trend of delaying the odd Steam release for consumers outside of America. I suppose it stops their servers being hammered.

We did get Tomb Raider: Anniversary a week before the Americans though through Steam. Although they inexplicably removed it as a purchase option for Europeans shortly after launch (possibly due to the fact it's being put out at £30 here, and it was only $35 through steam)
Stupid weakass American money. After playing a bit of Bloodlines I've decided someone else needs to take another stab at a source engine RPG. Dark Messiah doesn't really count since its basically an action game. But the Source Engine's face engine its perfect for RPGs. After seeing how the characters faces express and bodies move while they talk to me, Oblivion's poor character interaction stands out. The faces in Oblivion were ugly, but they expressed emotion reasonably well. However, the NPCs just stood there hands at their sides no matter what they were talking about.
I'd like to see a really good RPG with non clunky gunplay and melee like Dark Messiah. Also RPGs need to quit with the whole zoom in and lock the camera when someone talks to you. They should let you roam around and do stuff during conversations like HL2, but if you get to far away or mess with an NPC's stuff they should just say "well fuck you then," or "quit it," and stop talking.

That sucks so frigging hard. There is absolutely NO additional cost to them with this form of delivery and they still charge extra for it purely because they can get away with it. Gits. :x

Do you know what kind of shitstorm brick and mortar stores would throw if the games on steam werent priced at very similar prices to their own?

So glad that I don't have to subscribe to Gametap to get this. I've been waiting for it to appear on Steam, it just seemed ideal given all the other stuff they have on there.
Yeah, I noticed that too. They don't even give you the option to purchase the whole season at once. I am definantly getting this retail, because I prefer a CD anyway. It is still cool that steam is offering it though.

It's likely that they will put a new package out at $30 once the retail version is released. I guess you pay a few bucks extra and get it a couple months early.

This needs quoting for truth. After seeing what the Source engine is capable of, I desperately want to see a Bloodlines-esque game with Dark Messiah's combat mechanics.
Hell, go the full hog and make a D&D title that uses features from both, plus a Zombie Master-style player who controls multiplayer/co-operative scenarios...
Fuck just another Vampire game would be cool, but instead of having your firearms stat effect damage and stuff just have it dictate what weapons you can use. And put in localized damage so I can get headshots if I so choose. And do Dark Messiah melee and scrap the whole 3rd person thing.
You could even have a small party. With decent AI and basic commands like in HL2 it would be pretty fun, hell all you gotta do is pick a setting and go to town. However, I doubt there will ever be another Vampire game considering it killed Troika.

I still don't want to get an Xbox but the Live releases are getting better and better.
I KISS YOU!
With XP fixes.
AMEN
Pac man championship will likely never been see on another platform, as IIRC, they had the creator make it specifically for Xbox Live Arcade.
So. Is Devil May Cry 3 any good on PC, or is it another travesty of a port fit only for burning?

Apparently the latest patch fixed some of the control issue flaws.
Heh. I'm assuming Steam supplies patches and updates even to non-Valve games, right?
Yet another advantage of the platform.
I just finnshed replaying it. Which mission?
I just bought DMC3 on a whim, because twenty bucks into pounds sterling is a pittance as far as I'm concerned. I just hope I don't regret it
Sweet Spot.
So bought'd.
NM, I solved it!
It was the rehab mission, I was killing all of the Mafia men before talking to the CIA agent and it wasn't registering that I killed them
Wow I'm glad I didn't buy it a few weeks ago
For 20 dollars... yup that's probably my next purchase.
