Bonk's Adventure and Super Star Soldier are the two best games on there right now. Of those I'd go with Bonk's Adventure myself if you're not a shmup fan. I went with Super Star Soldier.

Quick! I've never played Golden Axe before, is it worth the $8 without nostalgia? I'll be able to play it with a friend if that matters. I'm choosing between this and Super Mario 64, which I've played to 100% before.
From what I've read, no, it isn't worth it. But I've never played it myself.
The arcade is pretty nostalgic to me, so I'll be picking it up. But unless you dumped a bunch of quarters in it then I doubt it will be worth it to you.
Golden Axe is one of the most played Genesis games I owned. Only get it if you have a friend/friends who will play it with you a bunch, I'm getting it ASAP.
The Genesis game I really, really want the most is Cyborg (mother freakin') Justice! You choose your legs (slow and strong, super jump, fast runner), your arm weapon (saw, punch, etc..), and your torso and head. It's like Final Fight except you can rip enemies arms off and attach them to yourself, and "eat" an enemy's torso for health. Also, if you don't choose the jump legs for the first stage you can't cross the giant chasm in the middle and have to start over.
[spoiler:411e30b1e4]When you are refighting all the bosses from the game, the third one always gives me trouble... the one that throws the rock/ice ball thing in the air... any pointers? Is the boss after this the last boss of the game? If so its quite short but was very enjoyable.[/spoiler:411e30b1e4]

Sorry I can't give you any tips, I've only made it through the second world this time around. The game design's a bit blander than I remembered, and the extremely short music loops are driving me nuts.
The instructions state that you can use any combonation of remotes and GC controllers but states that you must have at least 1 GC controller for 5 player.
How is Sim City, especially compared to the PC/Mac version? I used to play it for hours when I was a kid, but if the controls suck or if it's just scenarios I can't see myself paying $8 for it.

I actually feel Bonk's graphics and gameplay have held up fairly well, though the audio is certainly less awesome than many of the games from that time period.

I consider it the best version of the original Sim City. Take that as you will.

It is the best. Great music, nice and simple (I don't care about water pipes), cool bonus buildings that the original PC/Mac versions didn't have. Controls are just fine, sandbox or scenarios.
Did the TG16 have 5 controller ports or something?
Or did the developers think 5 was just a nice solid number of players to support?
Somewhat like the Super Nintendo, you could buy a multi-tap (the TurboTap) for the Turbo Grafx that would turn the controller port into five controller ports.
EDIT: Oops, described it like the SNES multi-tap.

It only had one controller port, actually. You could buy the 5-player TurboTap for it.
Yup, they wanted to cut costs as much as possible to bring it over here, and they did, the console was released for only $199.99.
But....
You needed to buy the Turbo Booster accessory to get composite output.
You needed to buy the Turbo Tap to have more than one controller hooked up.
Etc. etc. etc. etc.
Amazing system otherwise. I'm glad people are enjoying Bonk and Super Star Soldier. A lot of people don't realize how old it is, with stuff like Bonk coming out in 1989. Hudson's platformers definitely had a huge influence on the design/gameplay of stuff like Super Mario World and other games that got mass popularity in the west. It has an awesome and historically relevant library. I hope more TG-16 games make it.
Also, someone needs to find out, if I buy a Japanese Wii, can I download Japanese VC games onto it? When setting up the US Wii here it seemed to only list countries in this region as choices during the setup process.
If they were smart, they'd let you purchase and download the games onto a PC so people can copy them to a memory stick to put onto their Wii. That would be a dream come true since then you could just go to the site for whatever region you want a game from.
Finally, there was supposed to be a way to re-order the channels on the Wii menu wasn't there? Am I missing it? Is it not implemented yet?

So, should I get Super Star Soldier or Mario 64? I've never played either of them. I like the genre of SSS, and I also like platformers. I can actually get Super Mario Sunshine for less than Super Mario 64 would cost me, is it a better game?

No, Super Mario Sunshine is such a bad game.
Also, I would get Super Mario 64 over Super Star Soldier if you haven't played it. And especially if you have a classic controller.

How playable is it on the GC pad?
I haven't had a chance to try it with the GC pad, so I couldn't say for sure, but I'm sure it plays well.

I diagree with that statement. SMS isnt nearly as innovative or revolutionary as SM64, but its still fun imo. It's certainly worth less than $10.
But get SM64 first, because its incredible. I havent played it on the Wii, but I can see it working fine with the GC pad. The Z button wasnt used, and the C buttons were only for the camera, which is mapped to the C Stick now I think.

I haven't played Mario 64, (something I intend to rectify once I actually get a Wii) so Mario Sunshine might not be as good, but it's by no means a bad game.

Personally I'd get Super Star Soldier and skip Mario 64 for now. They both need to be played if they haven't been experienced yet, but Super Star Soldier has a much better soundtrack. You'll start Super Mario 64 and, due to its structure, never complete it at this time anyway due to other larger adventure games like Zelda existing.

That statement was in reference to Sunshine vs. Mario 64. I do think that Super Star Soldier is a really good game.
I guess it's really up to what you more feel like playing at the moment. Mario 64 is going to last you for a bit as well.

I know, but SMS isn't on the Virtual Console and it'll always be everywhere anyway.
Personally I think everyone should download all the Hudson games available, then re-download them again so that they're the most downloaded games on the Virtual Console.

Oh man, what a great game. You should download it ASAP so that Hudson will put Blazing Lazers and Soldier Blade onto the Wii.

It really is that great? For reals?
I'm in no hurry to download a shmup right now but if it's great I might have to put it on my to-do list.
I love Hudson shmups, some people don't. Basically they're fast and have a nice variety of weapons, but they tend to lack things like mid-level checkpoints, continues, etc. Personally I don't regret the purchase one bit.
Graphically it's nice to look at (except for level 2 which is just some dumb forest tile repeated a billion times over) but the main visual treats are the bosses. They're all fast moving and aggressive to fight.

Last I checked the Classic controller has a cord coming forthwith from it.
Now who's the caveman?

Umm... I've never undone the twist tie on that cord. You just plug it into your Wiimote.
