I really enjoyed this for a month or so after launch, I've quit now, but I'll be back as soon as they make keep sieges better. The moment they have two ramps, ideally one big one, and ladders then I'll be right back
had a nice def of spites earlier today
initially only about 6 or 7 of us were defending and they had at least 30
at one point it looked like they were going to take it because they finally whittled us down to the point where we couldn't keep up with the rezzes so we released
but then we regrouped, went back in, got the lord to reset and more people joined us
we defended for about 40 min and I was only halfway through 10 when we started and I was almost a quarter through 11 by the time they gave up

I stopped resisting the siren call of DC and made another dok. She's level 5 now, considering the lag I've been experiencing, definitely going to be a full DR dok.
I'll keep the fast reactions melee on my sacrifice dok on oceania.
I feel so much happier now though. I'm basically built for this class.

They definitely need to take a page from LOTRO's book when it comes to keep layout. They had that right on the money.
It's ok... LOTRO stole the Tome idea.. so that will make em even.
Why the fuck did game designers equate Open-RvR to "Hey, lets let lvl 28s gank lvl 13s in ORvR!"
Its like wtf is the point of ORvR, pre-40, on DC? I'd like to smack the devs upside the head. And also removing bolster in ORvR?
Can anyone explain the logic behind those two moves?
Edit: And its not like I mind getting killed by a team of lvl 28s farming some RvE area. But to let lvl 28s defend a keep? Wtf. Make chickening happen in RvR Lakes ATLEAST. And the lack of ORvR bolster has to be struck down.

That's pretty much exactly what Open RvR is. Not sure what you were expecting.

Except this isn't WoW. Taking and defending keeps is a part of the game. In WoW it didn't matter if a level 60 killed a lvl 15. In WAR there are keeps and open world objectives. I don't mind always being flagged and always leveling with the expectation of getting ganked. But to not be able to participate in keeps I am of the appropriate level to take? Horrible choice.

If the only difference between Core and Open was that you could go to enemy PvE areas in your tier, it would hardly be worth having a new server type. Besides, that would also screw up RvR lakes because you'd have more people running around looking for ganks and less actually fighting for the objectives. IMHO Mythic shouldn't even have bothered making the server type.

hey fellow DoK
I dinged 12 a bit ago so if I happen to get some higher level dok gear that wouldn't be better than what I have, I'll pass it on so you have something to grow into
So after getting tired of gangraped by Order, I think I'm ditching the Witch Elf for a Sorcerer. Sure, just as squishy, but at least I have a bit less visibility on the back lines. And more options, in helping nuke with the front line or by protecting other back line fools that get attacked. Was quite amusing the first time I killed myself from blasting too much stuff.

you have level 21's running around in t1, ganking newbies
You had level 60s running around ganking level 30s in World of Warcraft, just because they could. That's how PVP servers work. It added to the fun.
See, but getting ganked doesn't add to the fun for a lot of people. In fact for a lot of people it detracts from it pretty severely ;-)
which goes back to what I've said before, it's a matter of perspective
if you're that concerned about getting ganked, you probably want to stick with a core server
it's like trying to explain to a guy that prefers brunettes why you prefer redheads
you can explain your rationale, but as someone that doesn't share that preference they're not really gonna get it
so when a higher level char ganks me, I just roll with it most of the time and to me that possibility makes it more fun
but you'll never really get that because that same occurrence bothers you much more
it's cool, we just have diff perspectives on it
but I do find it funny that so many people assume that someone's ganking because he sucks at pvp or wants to feel like a big man, then I see them do the same thing because hey there's a group of lowbie order doing a pq that a smaller group of lowbie destro want to do so you bring in your level 20 and try to drive them off so your side can do the PQ
Well, right. I wasn't saying Open servers are worthless, just that the only thing they bring to the table for many people is annoyance.
I wouldn't say concern, more just doing the math. I don't enjoy ganking people, getting ganked, being interrupted while I'm trying to finish a questline/grinding or messing with other people while they're trying to do the same. That's really about all an Open server provides over a core one when you get down to it, isn't it?
So for me that's nothing on the pro side and things on the negative side. :P

Honestly, if they just kept to the usual tiers for chickening, and made every zone RVR everywhere, it'd work alot better. About half of the game's content is nearly impossible to do reliably if someone is dedicated to ruining your day unless you're overleveled as well (Though, why would you be doing lower level content, then?) or have a higher level character watch your ass for you.
I just stand there and /laugh when someone pops up and ganks me. Not much I could do anyway. Usually I see the guy run by where I respawn and ping at them, trying to get them too close and get the guards chasing them. Doesn't usually work, but hey, such is life. I spend way too much time in scenarios anyway.
I honestly haven't had much problem with much higher level order fucking with me while I'm questing
sure, it's happened
but not that often and when it did we just went somewhere else
I don't expect it'd be a huge issue or prevent me from leveling or anything but from my point of view it's a "Why deal with it at all if I don't have to?" thing.
I guess I've just never seen what open servers add to the game other than an expanded ability for players to be dicks. Is it a rush from keeping other players from being dicks or having someone try and fuck with you and defending yourself or something?

EDIT Also, the UL guild color is Scorched Brown Dye. Looks very reddish, from what I was told there is no secondary. In a pinch Blood Red or Dark Red Dye are close but not quite the right shade. I heard the Scorched Brown was 40G a vial last night so it's gonna get pricey unless you can gather up the pieces and give it to the guild apothecary guys.

exactly
if they're high enough level I can't beat them, running won't save me so I don't give them the pleasure
The raving, foaming at the mouth, homicidal types needed to be bunched up somewhere or they'd bitch, and bitch... and bitch some more.
They still bitch and bitch and bitch some more, because any game that advertises itself as a "PvP game" that doesn't allow players to kill anyone, anywhere, anytime, then completely loot the corpses and then force the defeated player to watch them flay and teabag the corpse in slow motion is irredeemably "carebear".

Open servers on WAR allow players to play a tier below them in ORVR. I think it's nice to have that flexibility, especially for keep defending/taking.
The Mouths on REM are still part of an active alliance; you may have to put the effort in to set up events, but it's not like anyone *needs* to go to Dark Crag, especially if you're not feeling the Open RvR.

See, I don't get that. What flexibility is there, besides being able to imbalance/trivialize content for lower level players?
It's like playing Unreal Tournament and giving half the players twice the health, weapon types and ammo capacity than the other half. It takes the whole 'PVP is a matter of skill' idea and just punts it out the window and into the gutter.
man I hate WAR. The first character I rolled was a swordmaster. I got used to only having like four-five button choices a stage, and since I was using plan b I never had to reach for anything.
On my magus I had two full bars of abilities, but I only used 1-5 and alt 1-3 all the time. All the other stuff was just there for situational uses.
But on my squig herder? Christ. Looking at the abilities hes going to get in a few levels I think graboid may have a problem. I don't want to do the "remap q,e,r" if I don't have to.
So how do you guys get around the horrible limitation of these PREHENSILE PAWS? (eh? eh?)

Your analogy would make sense if Unreal Tournament and WAR were similar games.
But they aren't.
The only problem I see with allowing players into a lower tier is that one side might decide to throw all their 40's into tier 3 to get something done. But as far as I cant tell, there isn't much incentive to do that. From what I've seen, things are pretty even rank wise in ORVR.
