Oh man, that Amazon deal is really tempting for me. I've been wanting to check this game out for a while, and the Endurance Run videos on Giant Bomb are making me want it more.
So... I might get myself a PS2 in the near future (:P), mostly because what I've found out about this series has had my mouth water (that, and God Hand). However, since I live in good ol' Europe, would it matter whether I get myself a PAL or NTSC PS2 with regards to avaliability? I mean, I can probably get hold of Nocturne and a good deal cheaper too, but will Devil Summoner be released back here, for instance? Or are there other cult classics I'll miss out on?
Like I said though, DDS2 is 40-70$ so I don't think I will be getting it any time soon unless I win a lucky auction or something.
Ouch. I got DDS2 for something like $20 on eBay in good condition when DDS1 was going for $70 or so.
So quick question for the end of P4 -
I'm at 23.Dec with everything from quests to social links (except for Judgment) done. Do I miss anything by doing the final dungeon now or should I hold off for any reason?
I'm pretty much just waiting to have a good day of uninterrupted time to finish the game. In the meantime I'm going to start a new game. Which of the following is the quickest to play, DS, DDS, or Nocturne?
If you hold off much longer you'll die.

Go for it.

Starting a new SMT while in the middle of another one isn't advisable. Finish P4 first.
(But DS is definitely shortest)
You could have told me this before I started Nocturne while in the middle of P4. Now I'm debating which to throw in every time I grab a controller

No, but if you miss a spell it means you aren't going to knock down all the enemies and will probably get beat down.
Except that they have to spend a turn getting back up. I usually leveled until my main was tired as well, and I don't remember ever suffering for doing it.
...What? o_O
If you miss one, you aren't knocking it down, so it doesn't need to get back up.
Edit: and that'll teach me to not refresh the page.
Hurf durf I know that, but usually one enemy doesn't wipe my team. If I'm against one enemy that powerful I'd usually run anyways.
Hurf durf yourself bucko. When you're sick, the enemy has a REALLY BIG CHANCE of critting you. Any enemy that crits your main twice is an enemy that is "that powerful"

Which is why I said I got out of there when my main got sick?

Well that's very special for you, but seeing as how my original comment was directed to Darklyre I'm not entirely sure what it has to do with anything.

Seeing as how you're responding to my fucking quote tree where I said I do something similar, but not the same, you could at least bother to read it instead of having to cover your ass later.
Yeah, a Ma-spell usually misses against a few enemies when my Main is sick. I make up for that by using single-target spells instead, for their higher accuracy rates. In addition, I prioritize nulling enemy attacks over having attacks against the enemy's weaknesses. It helps that P3 is much easier money-wise (at least on Normal) so I can use Revival items freely, whenever my allies get KOed by a Ma-spell.
I think a lot of the differences in how we play also come down to persona fusing. Generally speaking, my fusions aim for Nulls/Resists/Evades for any weaknesses they have, plus as many different element attacks as I can possibly fit on, instead of going for buffs and such. It cuts down on the chance of an enemy hitting my weakpoint, and gives me a higher chance of not having to switch personas to knock them down.
That said, I played P3 on Normal, because it was my first SMT game. Playing it on Hard would most likely change my strategies.
Now that I've already done it, it can't hurt me to tell everyone: If you own P4, order another copy off of Amazon and put your old one up on Goozex right away. It's trading at 800 points right now with a ton of requests and very little supply.
This will help spread the Persona-lovin' to people with more Goozex points than cash. If you can survive with P4 for a week or two, there's nothing to lose!
Someone send me your copy of DDS2, I'll give you naked pics.
I just don't want to spend 70$ now...
But I need to know about Nirvana
Did you make sure to make all the correct choices and fight every optional boss in DDS1? Well, aside from Demi-Fiend that is. When you get DDS2 you'll want to make sure you did those things for special bonuses. If you didn't, you can make the wait not seem as bad by going through again and doing that.

Beating Demi-Fiend in DDS1 should let you recruit Angel in 2 for all the trouble it requires.

(And then it would all be worth it)
For the time it took me to do it I should've been able to use the Demi-Fiend himself for the other super boss. Like he'd show up, smirk, his eyes would glow red, and then the boss would be dead.
I broke down. I just got SMT: Nocturne off of Goozex despite the fact that I've already owned it in the past. It's just that a good of a game and I'd like to see if I could finally beat the thing this time. Maybe not being insane and not choosing hard mode might be a good idea.

That....would have been AWESOME.
I'm playing through P3 a second time (no idea why in the world I did that with the backlog I have) on hard mode, and I'm on the last month, In Monad. I figure that since I've already paid my dues, I'm going to Armageddon whore myself to 99 (Satan with Victory Cry and Invigorate 3 ftw).
So yeah, even in Hard Mode, I don't die that much. Except when I forget Satan is weak to wind. And I'm on floor 7 of Monad. With some good crap I picked up from shiny gold chests in earlier floors. And I miss getting a back attack on the shadow. And in the game's wisdom it decides to use that time to say "hey here's an enemy advantage!" and I get Magarudyned. Four times. Somehow I dodge two of them, my idol ressurects me on the third...alas, those gold boxes were not meant to be.
[snip]
I usually fought bosses with a fresh party, so in-battle healing wasn't a big problem, especially since I never really needed to heal in a random battle. Accuracy is meh, since you should rarely use physical attacks in P3 anyways. Damage was fine as long as I knocked them all down and did all-out attacks. Enemy crit chance could usually be negated by getting the first strike.
I beg to differ. Siegfried with Vorpal Blade will get you through 90% of the 4th/5th block. Hell, Deathbound has such a high critical rate that will do as well. And if you manage to get a Siegfried with Akasha Arts (hi Melchizedek!), well then...(btw that other 10%? Alice and dude with Samsara)
I'm sorry if this has (and it very likely has) been asked before, but...
I'm doin' P4 and one of my first-stringers has Counter (10%), and after the last skill gained I noticed the next skill was another Counter skill for 15%. I'm wondering, if I take both skills do I end up with a 25% chance to counter, or do they not stack?

I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

Is the bonus dungeon in P2: EP worth it? After finishing P2: IS I definitely want to play through the storyline at least one time, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for more than one go.
I just listened to the Retronauts on Persona and now I want to play some SMT games. I've already got Nocturne, but failed very early on in my attempt to play it. Should I start again with that, or do you guys recommend jumping in with Persona 3 or Persona 4?

Nocturne is the best of the series, but its minimalist style and heavy grind take getting used to.
If you really have a problem, do indeed try a Persona first.
Is anyone else still following the Giant Bomb endurance run of Persona 4? Today's update was the first with free-flowing gameplay, and they fought the Chie boss. With Yosuke's commands still on automatic. They still won, but ouch, the tactics were painful.

Well, the sale is over. I hope someone took advantage of it.
My local Sears still has two copies of Persona 3, unopened. I'm sorta tempted to buy both, give one to my sister for her birthday and put the other in storage.

DDS2 really goes for $70 now?

It goes for 40-70, its pricey.
Also I did make all the right choices in DDS, but I still need to get the rings.
But back on topic: sell me your DDS2 (or let me borrow it for a while).
