Gmail chat + MSN + LIVE don't work, rest of Internet does. What's with my router?
I did one thing: I got more points and downloaded SF II HDR on my 360.
Then, I got disconnected from LIVE. Gmail chat and MSN don't work either (on Trillian--AIM does). Oh wait--Gmail chat now works, but only on IE but not Firefox.
Unplugged router and plugged back in. Internet works, even the 360 admits it, but can't get on LIVE and can't get other stuff to work.
What the hell happened?
Router is blah LinkSys BEFSR41 which hasn't given problems before.
sorry to say a very tech supportish thing, but when you do the Network test, what is the error you get?
edit-it usually tells you why Live fails if internet works. It sounds a lot like strict NAT settings to me. Although even when I was on a locked down NAT, Live would still work, it would only cause GTA4 to kick me out of every game, and slowed down Halo matchmaking. But I imagine there are port blocking configurations that would screw Live up altogether.
What I am saying is the 360 should be able to tell you if its NAT related, and it sounds like it is. I imagine it's not your live subscription either, since it tells you if your subscription payment is not received for any reason and prompts you to put in credit card info.
edit2 you may as well download standalone msn and Gmail chat clients, they're free and download fast. See if those don't work. You may have an isolated Live problem and a hiccuping Trillian. I know Adium is screwy for MSN sometimes.

Try resetting your router. Should be a little button in the back. If that doesn't do the trick, you could try downloading firmware from the manufacturer and flashing it onto the router. They are quick and dirty methods, but they'll tell you quickly whether your router is just jacked. Also, call your ISP and see if they're having any issues.
