ok guys, I have been playing with this for a while and I just can't seem to get it to work right. I know I will get it eventually (if it's possible) but wanted to get your advice.

Wife has a Sony Vaio laptop with a bd-drive in it. My new LCD finally got fixed and now we have it in our bedroom, along with an extra-long hdmi cable so we can use her laptop has a blueray player.

But I also wanted her to still be able to use her laptop while it was playing a disc. I can get the laptop to do dual displays just fine. But only if they're both the same resolution. (And it seems they both have to be 720p. If I change the tv's resolution to 1080p, the blueray goes to full 1080p, but her laptop monitor goes black.

How can I get the laptop monitor to hold the 720 settings while the tv retains the 1080p settings?

Windows Vista
NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GT

Yeah that was the first thing I did. I guess I didn't state that in the OP clearly enough. I meant that I can get the monitors to work with either one as the primary, and the other as the extension, but not at separate resolutions.
