So my roomate's Playstation 2 slim model is kind of messing around. It will power up, but will shut down within a minute or two. It loads up in different parts. Has anyone had a problem like this who could give a more definite answer? I've never had a bad Playstation 2 (lucky I guess) so I don't know what it could be.

Does anything happen graphically when it fails, or does it just shut off?
It will power up, go through the loading screen, and start loading the game up, but then the power cuts off, like it would when you turn it off.
It's the timer Sony put in to break PS2s when the PS3 launched so that people would actually have a reason to buy it.
On a more serious note: Probably heat issues, since its in a tiny case, have you got stuff on it/around it? Possibly near a vent?
I know mine sometimes won't start because the cord is lose in one of the three connections.
See if you can borrow somebody else's cable?
