Who Watches the Watchmen game? The End is Nigh - March 4th

The game takes place in the 1970s when Rorschach and Nite Owl teamed up to kick some criminal butt. Not much else is known plot wise. Criminals mentioned briefly in the comic will appear in the game like Underboss.

While the game focuses on teamwork, there is no online co-op. There is local co-op, and the AI will control the other unmanned character during single play.

The gameplay is your standard beat 'em up with an added layer of depth provided by the counter mechanic. According to 1Up's preview, button mashing won't get the job done. You'll need to get a hang on the timing aspect of combat like Assassin's Creed and Fable 2.

While the game is looking good, even sporting comic panel intros to each chapter explaining the prequel's story, the game could be incredibly short even the first time through (Joystiq). Still, episodic games tend to not last long, so it'll come down to how much fun can be had busting fools heads with a pipe.

The game will be hitting Xbox Live and PC on March 4th. PSN will get it on March 5th. Price is still unknown.

Watchmen: The End is Nigh

It should go without saying, but please spoiler any plot talk related to the game or the novel.

Watchmen pretty much shouldn't be a movie

But anyone who's even remotely familiar with the comic should see why the very last thing it should ever fucking be is a shitty video game.

No it doesn't. They've changed the ending, so it's better suited towards the american audience/Hollywood. I wish Alan Moore would fuck those bastards over.

Apparently they were gonna set it during the movie, but Zack Snyder stepped in and supervised so it would at least make sense within the universe

Seriously, if this is about what I think it's about you are crazy
There is no way the squid would have worked in a film. It worked fine in a comic because you can go back and see the foreshadowing, with movies it's different. There was no way to keep the squid in there and have people buy it

Now I swear that's the last time I am going to talk about this because it has been done to death

    To Todesbart:

Is it really? Do you even have any clue what the new ending is? Aside from that why doesn't the movie look good? Because they sure as hell haven't showed any scenes from the end of the movie.

I also completely agree with Olivaw. There was no way that could have worked without alienating everyone who hadn't read the comic.

Lightsabers aren't a very important part of Star Wars. They may be iconic, but that doesn't make them important. You could easily replace them with regular swords or vibroblades.

    Context is important

From what I've seen the ending does seem to work logically, and seems to be the best solution if you had to remove the elaborate set-up of the books' ending

I don't, but it sure isn't nearly as good as the original one. It can't be. Also, Tales of the Black Freighter isn't even included in the cut that's going to be in the theatres. How can an adaption of Watchmen work without these 2 important things changed and/or missing?

So how do you know that the change, and the streamlining of the story itself, hasn't been done for the better? I honestly prefer the idea of change to the original ending of the graphic novel.

I just don't think that changing the ending of any story is a good idea. It's there for a reason, why would you take a book and rewrite the ending? That just fucks the whole thing up.

Also, since when is streamlining a good thing? If I just think of Deus Ex 2 and all the other stuff that has been "streamlined", I'm not quite sure if I want a streamlined story of any book that is going to be adapted into a movie.

I don't know, they changed the whole book. I would've probably liked it if they didn't use the name, because the whole fucking story has been changed for the movie. Survivors in mah I Am Legend? No wai.

Good point. It's just a different experience, I think. I love Watchmen as it is, I've read it like 3 times, and I don't think that the movie needs to change anything. Sure, there's lots of room for improvement, but if somebody is going to change something, it should be the autor. That goes for every book by the way.

On the one hand I agree, I think that if you take a book and make it into a movie, you should try and stay as true to the source material as possible, because why else would you want to make a movie out of that book than because the book itself was good?

But on the other hand, you are a crazy person. Streamlining gameplay for a video game and streamlining a story spanning twelve issues into a two and a half hour movie are two completely different things. You might as well have asked why streamlining an airplane is a good idea

    Because [SPOILERS]
the fucking squid would not have been possible to set up in two hours or even three. Hell, it sort of comes out of nowhere in the book too, unless you're really paying attention to the foreshadowing

Now granted the new ending may not be superior to the original, but it's the only way it could be done on film and it could have been a hell of a lot worse so quit your bitchin' and be glad that everything about the movie so far looks so close to the book

Haha, yeah, the comparison sucked balls. But seriously, I wish for Watchmen to be good, I just don't think that it's going to happen. With Black Freighter left out and the ending changed, they took a big part away from the original.

It's like I Am Legend, where Smith meets the woman and her kid, has a dog from the beginning and finds a cure. They turned everything upside down, just to "streamline" it and make it appeal to the masses.
