The game takes place in the 1970s when Rorschach and Nite Owl teamed up to kick some criminal butt. Not much else is known plot wise. Criminals mentioned briefly in the comic will appear in the game like Underboss.
While the game focuses on teamwork, there is no online co-op. There is local co-op, and the AI will control the other unmanned character during single play.
The gameplay is your standard beat 'em up with an added layer of depth provided by the counter mechanic. According to
1Up's preview, button mashing won't get the job done. You'll need to get a hang on the timing aspect of combat like Assassin's Creed and Fable 2.
While the game is looking good, even sporting comic panel intros to each chapter explaining the prequel's story, the game could be incredibly short even the first time through (
Joystiq). Still, episodic games tend to not last long, so it'll come down to how much fun can be had busting fools heads with a pipe.
The game will be hitting Xbox Live and PC on March 4th. PSN will get it on March 5th. Price is still unknown.
Watchmen: The End is Nigh
It should go without saying, but please spoiler any plot talk related to the game or the novel.

It was in EGM just before it died.
R-money is so awesome. He really fucking hates humanity.
...and I will whisper...NO.
Did
Did you just call him "R-money?"

I also call our President O-dog.
Is it for teh dollahz? Those fucks would be better off getting them somewhere else. LEAVE WATCHMEN ALONE! LEAVE IT ALONE!
But anyone who's even remotely familiar with the comic should see why the very last thing it should ever fucking be is a shitty video game.
Sigh.
Movie looks pretty good though
Unlike this game

Seriously, I hope nobody buys that shit. That's even worse than fucking Dantes Inferno.
It's not a sequel, at least.
No it doesn't. They've changed the ending, so it's better suited towards the american audience/Hollywood. I wish Alan Moore would fuck those bastards over.
No. If they wanted to fuck his corpse, they would have made a sequel to the movie version of From Hell.
Yeah what the fuck is up with people actually trying to make good movies that may have something changed? Fuck them, even if everything else is the same, it is a fucking disgrace.
Apparently they were gonna set it during the movie, but Zack Snyder stepped in and supervised so it would at least make sense within the universe
I'm pretty sure he was against it to begin with but the suits were all like "$$$" and so he just made sure they didn't fuck it up too badly

Just got my tickets for this shit in IMAX, woo!
Thank you for that. Now there is spit and Dorito crumbs everywhere.

Alan Moore is fucking nuts.
Hahahaha
Oh man, I'm sigging this shit.
It is, because taking the ending away from the comic and replacing it with some shitty hollywood crapfest is like Star Wars without the lightsabers.
Seriously, if this is about what I think it's about you are crazy
Now I swear that's the last time I am going to talk about this because it has been done to death

Is it really? Do you even have any clue what the new ending is? Aside from that why doesn't the movie look good? Because they sure as hell haven't showed any scenes from the end of the movie.
I also completely agree with Olivaw. There was no way that could have worked without alienating everyone who hadn't read the comic.
From what I've seen the ending does seem to work logically, and seems to be the best solution if you had to remove the elaborate set-up of the books' ending
I don't, but it sure isn't nearly as good as the original one. It can't be. Also, Tales of the Black Freighter isn't even included in the cut that's going to be in the theatres. How can an adaption of Watchmen work without these 2 important things changed and/or missing?
Yeah, you may be right about that, but they sure add that certain vibe to the movies and the universe.
Watchmen is not perfection.
I love how you know everything that is going to happen in the movie is going to be wrong, even though you haven't seen it.
Just look at what they did you I Am Legend. Horrible.
So how do you know that the change, and the streamlining of the story itself, hasn't been done for the better? I honestly prefer the idea of change to the original ending of the graphic novel.
Also, since when is streamlining a good thing? If I just think of Deus Ex 2 and all the other stuff that has been "streamlined", I'm not quite sure if I want a streamlined story of any book that is going to be adapted into a movie.
Okay what the fuck is this
I Am Legend was a quality film with the alternate ending
Admittedly the theatrical ending sucked balls but still, everything before the last twenty minutes was good

Or it makes it do-able in movie form.
Inversely, why the hell would you want to see a movie that's exactly the same as the book you just finished reading?
I don't know, they changed the whole book. I would've probably liked it if they didn't use the name, because the whole fucking story has been changed for the movie. Survivors in mah I Am Legend? No wai.
And oh, I looked the alternate ending for Watchmen up. It's not that bad, but I don't see why they just didn't keep the original one. Maybe it's in the Director's Cut or something.
Good point. It's just a different experience, I think. I love Watchmen as it is, I've read it like 3 times, and I don't think that the movie needs to change anything. Sure, there's lots of room for improvement, but if somebody is going to change something, it should be the autor. That goes for every book by the way.
On the one hand I agree, I think that if you take a book and make it into a movie, you should try and stay as true to the source material as possible, because why else would you want to make a movie out of that book than because the book itself was good?
But on the other hand, you are a crazy person. Streamlining gameplay for a video game and streamlining a story spanning twelve issues into a two and a half hour movie are two completely different things. You might as well have asked why streamlining an airplane is a good idea

Because [SPOILERS]
Now granted the new ending may not be superior to the original, but it's the only way it could be done on film and it could have been a hell of a lot worse so quit your bitchin' and be glad that everything about the movie so far looks so close to the book
PSN ID : DetectiveOlivaw | TWITTER | STEAM ID | NEVER FORGET
Haha, yeah, the comparison sucked balls. But seriously, I wish for Watchmen to be good, I just don't think that it's going to happen. With Black Freighter left out and the ending changed, they took a big part away from the original.
It's like I Am Legend, where Smith meets the woman and her kid, has a dog from the beginning and finds a cure. They turned everything upside down, just to "streamline" it and make it appeal to the masses.
