Excellent news!

American Mcgee's Alice (see Helloween's lets play here) is going to get a sequel!

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6204914.html?tag=latestheadlines;title;1

Coming to consoles and a PC near you. Probably to be followed up by a new set of figures that will be impossible to find.

Goddammit I wish that egotist would stop slapping his damn name over everything he touches. Yes, I know he keeps whining "but the publishers make me do it!" but considering he's had three or four different publishers and none of his games other than Alice have sold well, I'm guessing he's full of shit.

Edit: Also, what are they going to do with a sequel. "Oh no, Alice has to go to Wonderland again! For the third time. For some reason."

YES! I was hoping they would do this! It's been plastered on the wiki that they might. This is awesome news. I will have to waste a crap ton of cash on those new figures.

Wasn't "slap my name on a product and pretend i'm somebody famous" levels of good, though.

Also, doesn't he just farm all the work out to five cents an hour korean studio's now? I remember him, or someone else saying they do that because it's cheaper. Though, the games tend to suck horribly.

Alice was decent, and based off all those mall kiosks that sold t-shirts with evil-looking versions of Lewis Carroll's characters in the mid-90s.

Edit: He's said Chinese labor is cheaper, but he moved there because he hates America for some reason. Despite his name. Maybe because of his name; the dude rarely makes sense.

I would love to play a twisted fantasy game based on a fairy tale, but not if American McGee is involved.

Oh, chinese development studios. That's even worse. Now i'm picturing a bunch of kids slaving over the concept art while their American overlord whips them.

So, that's a no. You've never played it. Not playing a game just because you don't like the creator is pretty ignorant. Oh well, your loss.

I've played it and thought it was merely okay. I can see how people wouldn't like it.

And yes, I found it merely okay long before I got sick of American slapping his name over everything he breathed on.

Alice is still a fair candidate for best game EA have ever been behind, but even that doesn't make me convinced about this at all.
I do own the original Alice and cat figures, though.

Also, what happened to the film?

And yes, everything else American has done since is a bit rubbish, so that doesn't bode well.

I did play this game. In 2000. And enjoyed it and then never thought about the game again, except for when people mention American McGee and I want to stab myself in the EYYEEESS.

A sequel to Alice is a pretty good idea.

A sequel to Alice made by American McGee's Chinese studio that has yet to make a game that hasn't sucked is not.

That is, essentially, the long and short of it, in my view.

Scrapland (kinda decent, then again American didn't come on board until the game was mostly finished), Bad Day L.A. (horrible), the 47,831 Grimm games on Gametap (pretty meh).

If you want a good look into American McGee's thought process, there's an old CGW podcast from around the release of Bad Day LA where McGee was a guest. It's... interesting, to say the least. As interesting as anti-American rambles from a mediocre-at-best game designer can get, anyway.

They had nothing to do with the game American planned. Like the mid-90s t-shirt kiosks with evil Wonderland characters, they existed long before American got the, ahem, "idea." There was also a short-lived comic book series with evil Oz, if I recall.

This *could* be REALLY good news. I was a sucker for Alice's twisted take on Wonderland, and I thought the game itself was pretty good too. American McGee's track record after Alice hasn't been great (Scrapland was okay, but Bad Day LA was garbage. The GameTap stuff is okay, but I haven't played all of them), but Alice's world is enough to make me hopeful.

EDIT: Weren't the Oz figures a McFarlane design?

My first thought was "Awesome!" followed by "How are they going to do a game sequel to Alice in Wonderland?" followed by realizing that the book had a sequel and feeling very stupid.

They should totally figure out some way to stick in a Shin Megami Tensei reference in this game.

Direct MP3 link here. He was discussing Grimm in this one, yet another poorly-received effort.

Another Alice sounds good to me. My only problem with the first being that the ending was not as inspired as the atmosphere that surrounded it.

The soundtrack is godly and as soon as I heard it in game I went out and got it. I have it on now in fact. 8-)

I really really loved the first game and own a few copies of it as well for safe keeping. The Cheshire cat disc one is awesome.
It may not have been the best game in the world, but I love it anyway. The atmosphere, the setting, the beautiful characters...

Actually I might go off and play it again.

If my name was American McGee I would talk about myself in third person all the time.

You guys call him egotistical for slapping his name on his product?

I call him a man with the best name ever.

It is perfectly reasonable to expect his middle name to be 'motherfuckin'
