I'm particularly impressed with directors who manage to set The Tempest in Nazi Germany.

now theater is about theater and is dumb
The only play I've seen that was about theatre was The Skin of Our Teeth by Thorton Wilder. It was indeed quite dumb.

Hmm, our drama department is doing that now and I was going to go see it for an assignment in my English class

    guess I won't though
It really depends on the execution. Your school might do a better job than mine did.

okay so back in high school drama we were reading the tempest

and I said I felt sorry for... whatever his name was, the guy the old guy was keeping as a slave

and everyone in the class got all mad at me because he had tried to rape the daughter once and I guess that that means the character can't be sympathetic anymore

I don't remember anything about the story because god that class was terrible

I didn't see this one, but a friend of mine did.

I believe it was original text, but all the Capulets were women, Juliet inferred to have been adopted, and the male characters were dressed kind of with a butch lean, with short hair and jeans and t shirts, but they were still playing women.

And all the montagues were dudes and kind of faggy. And Mercutio was a cross dresser, and I believe Rosaline was referred to as a dude.

Man I use to love doing theater in High School. It was fun and while I never got top billing or anything I always had descent parts.

College however is when I went to try out, and was even told I did better then most of the other Freshmen who tried out, but because I am not a theater major I cannot truely appricate the art of theater and therefor could only do backstage work.

I was told this by a professor, and was affirmed by the students. I then decided fuck this noise and went home to watch my Into The Woods DVD.

Does your college have an independent or student-run theater club? Like, not affiliated with the actual department? You might have better luck there, I think they tend to be more merit-based and not about what your major is or isn't

That was at Ball State. Now I goto Purdue North West which is basically off comapus of Purdue West Laffiyet(I can't spell it). Bascially its 3 buildings. Not real clubs or anything here. Now when I transfer for Med school, god willing, I might try again. I really like acting, but I'm also not a super drama fag about it.

I feel so bad for my friend. She just graduated. With a degree in acting. Mind you she went to good schools, she spent 2 years in London at the London Academy of Acting and 2 year in NYC at a pretty good college there whos name escapes me. But man, degree in acting? Way to wase a few thousand dollars.

I roll with the Greek classification.

If the protagonist is better off at the end of the story, it's a comedy. If he or she is worse off, it's a tragedy. Romances can be either.

I really want to go back to working in the theatre. I could go back to the company I used to work for, or join up with my friends new company.

my friends company has recently got some big names associated with it, but my old company just did a run with John Glover... not that either of these would really be deciding factors
