Standing up, Mark III smoothly drew his longbow. He nocked an arrow and let loose at the nearest goat. Without waiting to see if it hit, he began drawing another arrow.

With six of it's eight eyes glowing a sickly red, one of the goats lowers it's head and rushes at Rolf, without slowing it charges into his midsection. A sound not unlike an egg dropping to the floor echoes out into the night air. Visibly shaken by the impact Rolf is able to maintain his stance and stand his ground. The nightgoat on the other hand seems to have taken the worst of the collision, a viscous slime has coated it's matted hair and horns. While still effective, Rolf's poison can't seem to penetrate fully into the goats thick hide. The other nightgoats start to move closer to Rolf when suddenly there is a flash of light.

When everyones eyes adjust the other nightgoats are gone, in their place a portal of orange light stands. The portal framed by the darkness of the clearing, looks out into an alien word, two suns hover over the burnt orange landscape, pruple trees litter the scene, and nothing seems to move.

Mark III's arrow, already in flight, hit's the portal where the nightgoats were standing. It seems to slow as it passes through the barrier between worlds, but when it appears in the other world it jolts back into full speed, flies a short distance and strikes a large rock shattering into little pieces.

    Monster Actions
Nightgoat 4 moves to T-12, attacks Rolf
Nightgoat 4 attack and poison save; poison damage (2d4=7, 1d20=18, 8d6=28)
Rolf takes 7 damage, nightgoat 4 takes 14 damage from successful poison save

Nightgoat 4 uses plane shift to open a portal to an unknown world.

Thorgo started to emit a constant stream of barely audible grunts (a sound his party was well used to by now) as he used his echolocation to aid him get a bead on the animals in the dark.

Grabbing his crossbow he headed toward the beasts, snapping off a poorly aimed shot as he moved into range for his electric blast.

The cavemen's wrists are all tied with the same rope, spaced at intervals. The end of the line is tied tightly around an iron stake which is driven into the ground. If there's hard ground around it's driven into the hard ground, otherwise it will just be driven into the ground.

Rolf's left head stares into the strange portal for a moment as his right head concentrates on the battle. Rolf manages to deal the injured goat a couple of serious wounds across the flank, but it managed to stay on its feet.
    Rolls:

    1d20+3=20, 1d8+3=7
    1d20+3=21, 1d8+3=7

So 2 hits for 14 damage.

Sorry for the delay- didn't realize it was my turn!

The clearing, now illuminated by the campfire and the daylight filtering through the portal, grew even brighter as three more portals opened in unison. One of the portals opened behind Rolf, and a nightgoat with a gnarled and broken horn surged out. It hit Rolf right in the backside, the broken horn tore into the leather armor. As the jagged edges of the horn sliced into the armor the horn became entangled in the leather strips. Unfortunately for the nightgoat out of the newly made hole Rolf's defensive poison dripped down onto it's head. This time the poison seemed to find an opening, it acted quickly, and from the terrible noise coming from the nightgoat, painfully.

With a nightgoat dangling from his backside Rolf couldn't move fast enough when the nightgoat infront of him made a last desperate attempt to finish off the hulking two headed man. Like a sharp knife the nightgoat's teeth cut into Rolf's forearm, it's infectous saliva spreading poison into the bright pink meat beneath Rolf's skin. Rolf's own poison failed to act completely on the nightgoat but what little effect it did have was enough, the nightgoat went limp, it's teeth still buried to the gums in the now throbbing forearm.Thankfully for Rolf, his own poison acted as a sort of antivenom and all he had to worry about was a pair of nasty headaches in the morning, how he was going to get the nightgoat that hung limply on his arm off of his arm, and if he had rabies. As the nightgoat made the switch from a living being to a dead piece of meat, the first portal shrunk down to a pinpoint of light and vanished.

The other two portals had formed near the fire, a nightgoat coming out of each. With staggering force a nightgoat barrelled into Mark III, the synthetic's rigid metal skeletal system absorbed most of the blunt force of the charge. The nightgoat stumbled back a step and a couple of it's eyes went crosseyed. It looked around as if to see if any of it's companions had seen it's abrupt stop, they hadn't of course, they had their own setbacks to worry about.

As the last of the nightgoats charged out of it's new portal, it seemed to miss a step as it cleared the membrane of the portal, it tripped on it's own hooves and skidded to halt at Sunny's feet. As it looked up at her, Sunny could almost see the embarassment ooze out of it's eight red eyes.

With all of the attention seemingly on the battle the cavemen gazed into the portals, they saw freedom. Not as an escape but as a payoff, there were bodies and gear strewn about the landscape. With caution they stood up and eased towards the nearest portal, testing it with a finger, then a hand, until one of them worked up the courage to step through. The other two followed, they had little choice, they were tied together.

The mule still pulled at it's harness. The spike, seemingly as stubborn as the mule, held tight to it's place in the hard earth.

Mark III recovered quickly from being charged, and fired a final arrow towards the goat attacking Rolf, trying to bring it down before it could attack again. Although he hit, the goat looked like it still had a little fight left. Dropping his bow, he turned his attention to the goat closest to him.

"Sunny, Thorgo, get back!" he yelled.

"What in the...!?" She jumped back as the portal opened, looking down at the crumpled goat. This was confusing. "This is confusing." Sunny took Mark's advice, quickly backing away from the strange goat as she leveled her crossbow at it. With the fire at its back, she had a better shot. Hopefully moving backwards into the darkness would make it harder for the creature to get a bead on her.

After watching the goats disappear in front of him, Thorgo span around at the sound of Sunny's shout. He held up his hand and forming his fingers into the shape of pistol (unneccessary but he enjoyed it) he shot a bolt of electricity at the Goat attacking her. However he could hear the tell tale sound of Mark III preparing his draining field and in his haste to get out of the way shot far wide off the mark once more.
Shot Goat (1d20+3=7, 4d6=21) Move NW far enough to hopefully get out of Mark III's range. Sorry at work without details so somebody else will have to put me in a square please.

Still smoking from the massive shock, and having a bolt puncture it's flank, the nightgoat that had attacked Sunny before, and failed miserably, charged at her again. With no interdimensional gateways to mess up it's attack run the nightgoat hit Sunny squarely, but due to Sunny's unique plant like stucture the attack failed to do little more than mess up her petals.

Seeing it's trip being wittled down the nightgoat attacking Mark III tried to snap at Mark III, hoping the poison in it's very unhygenic mouth to fell the sturdy man. The bite went wide and the nightgoat didn't get the chance to infect Mark III.

Rolf and Sunny could see into the portals and could see the cavemen searching the corpses and gear that littered the floor of the alien world. They seemed to be doing a decent job of it, even though they were still tied up.

For right after Mark III, so I don't hold things up.
Sunny grunted as the goat rammed into her, stumbling back. She continued to retreat as she reloaded her crossbow. She wasn't sure if she could get off another shot, but she tried her best. "What's happening on the other side of those...portals!? Your cavemen are escaping, Mark!"

Mark III made a few quick calculations, and began backing away across the fire. When he'd got sufficiently far away from Sunny, he began to draw the lifeforce of nearby beings into himself.
How is a 42' radius calculated? Are we doing a 42' cube, like movement, or something closer to a circle? I believe if I move to L-34 I should hit both nightgoats and miss Sunny & my mule, but I'm not sure if I'll hit Rolf or not.

Assuming I miss Sunny at L-34 I move there. Activate Vampiric field Vampiric field willpower roll (1d20=10), Damage against goat 1, goat 3 (2d4=8, 2d4=8)

If Rolf gets caught in the blast:

Here is a map of your planned movement and vampiric field Papillon. The big circle around Mark III has a 42.5' radius. It's kind of wierd, but I may have to switch to a hex grid to make the radius work on the diaganol. If I can find a decent way to do the coordinates I may do this for the next encounter.

As for reloading the crossbow. Each round is ten seconds long, I could see someone reloading a crossbow in ten seconds. I couldn't see someone doing that and aiming and shooting in succession. I would say it takes a turn to reload the crossbow.

[strike]Throwing his crossbow to the ground, Thorgo roared and charged at the goat in front of Sunny. He grappled with it landing a few solid blows with his heavy fists but not doing much lasting damage.
    1d20+3=14, 1d8=2
    Hit - 2 dmg
Quick post, no rules still. Only rolled a straight d8 damage, not sure if add strength mod or any bonus for charging.
    [/strike]

Thorgo indulged imagining himself the hero wrestling the goat away from Sunny, whilst he reloaded his crossbow. He took aim and fired at the one beast remaining.
Same rolls so still a hit and 2 damage?

With the rest of it's tribe lying dead on the ground the last nightgoat reared around to get one last kick in before running away. The kick struck Rolf in the upper leg but in the nightgoats weakend state it did little more than cause a slight bruise. Rolf's defencive poison again worked it's deadly magic, only a few drops landed on the nightgoat but it was dead before it's rear legs came back to earth. In a crumpled heap the goat collapsed to the ground and the last portal closed.

An unfortunate occurance for the cavemen, as the first was just stepping out the portal. With a very wet thud, the half of the caveman that still existed in this world dropped forward and lay in the dirt. Clutched in his hands a large pack filled with scavenged material, it was to be the cavemen's payment for freedom.

With it's enemies vanquished the party resumed it's nightly preperations around the fire.

    Notes:
The battle is over. Everyone gets 500 experience points for killing the goats and another 125 points each for the 500 gp in the sack, also there are three pieces of tech, (well more than 3 but a bunch are of the same type).

For researching the tech I'll allow you to research one a day for free, but if you want to research more than that it'll cost you some travel time. If you want to reasearch a second piece it'll cost you half a days travel, or if you want to research all three a full days travel.

Everyone who needs it can roll their healing rolls, Rolf can use his healing power, (I would count this power as an action in battle). Thorgo needs to roll his ongoing tuber damage aswell.

Once everyone is ready we'll resume this journey. Again I'm sorry for the delay but you have no idea how much work is involved in gutting a basement that was full of water, in the middle of winter.

Sunny winced as the caveman, or what was left of him, slumped wetly to the ground. "Eww..." She took a few moments to make sure everyone was still there, and her equipment was properly tended to. "I guess that's the last we'll see of them. Unless dimension-hopping evil goats reappear." She pondered that, as she did her best to help the others clean up their campsite.

Not seeming too interested in examining the items, Sunny encouraged the others to continue on. Who knows what could have happened to those girls by now?

Healed 2, back up to 27...! Also, does Sunny's Dermal Acid Sap work like Rolf's poison? It reads exactly the same, except the 'sap' part. I don't know if they assume you're always oozing it, or if it's like blood.

Rolf's right head grins at Thorgo. "I don't mind being a beating post at all, if they wanna kill them selves, they're welcome to it!"

His battered and bruised body gives a shudder as his right head closes its eyes and concentrates...and his wounds are all healed instantly. "Yeah, well you don't have to like fix things when we get all beat up...it's totally exhausting!" said his left head. Stomach rumbling, Rolf reaches for his pack to get himself some food in each hand.
Yeah, I'm just going to heal up to full. No sense walking around with 9ish HP.

Doesn't matter to me. Poison immunity FTW! On the other hand, meat spoils really quickly, so I'll probably have to share it, which means I guess I should butcher an unpoisoned one.
