The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
So I'm taking on an independent study that will have me doing some work in Python with latent semantic analysis and similar processes. I don't know Python yet, however, and need some good books to get my feet wet with the language, but also deals with some advanced topics.
2 different books is fine.
I'm by no means an expert at any language, but most recently been using C++, Java before that, and have used DrScheme and Perl back in the day.
I'm going to be reimbursed for any books I buy through work, so I figured I might as well actually get some books that I can keep handy. Anything else besides Python in a Nutshell?

The Python Cookbook is good, too. Especially so if you mostly need to know stuff about the language specifically and already have experience with others.

The site has been flaky lately.
Python in a Nutshell is good too.
See how many books I've read so far in 2010
