Just curious if anyone here is/was using a Logitech Harmony 1000 color touch screen remote. I have been reading reviews but I was looking for some first hand accounts and impressions from you fine folks.
I have an 880 already, but my dog chewed the shit out of it a few months back and some buttons are busted. I saw the 1000 and it looks like a cool upgrade, but I'm curious how the touch screen works in the long term.
I'm sure the touchscreen works fine in the long run, but it is a two handed remote that you probably won't be able to navigate by feel alone. Those are the two biggest cons I've heard against it.
I think it comes with an RF module, and that can be a pain (again, what I've heard). The One is supposedly the greatest thing ever though.

You really don't want the 1000. The 1100 is good apparently. Apparently the 1000 locks up and has all kinds of hardware side glitches that forced Logitech to take a more firm stand on hardware quality.
The One is supposed to be most excellent.

This thread interests me, because I was just thinking of getting the same unit... Though over here - it's the 1000i.
Reviews seem hit and miss... Either people love it, or they couldn't get it to work at all.
On a side note... Half my home cinema was purchased in the UK... Does anyone think that it would have trouble working with UK gear as well as stuff from Down here (NZ)
I might check out the ONE... though the square touch screen did look cool.
I have a 1000. theres actual buttons for channel/volume up+down, mute, menu, 4-way menu selection thing and a couple others that are usuable 1-handed. so you really only use the touch screeen to turn whatever your watching on. or to enter numbers.
I like it. but a lower model harmnony more like a normal remote would work just as well.
haven't had too many hardware problems, it locked up once but a reset fixed it. and it sometimes misses turning things on or setting the right settings. but the nice little help button fixes it all in a few seconds.
edit: just looked up the one, it does look like a much nicer remote.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I saw the One remote but hadn't given it a serious look. It seems similar to my 880, which I love.
I have an 880 as well, and I love it too, but I almost wish it would break so I'd have an excuse to get a Harmony One. The One looks like it addresses the only real complaint I have against the 880, namely the size and layout of the channel +/-, volume +/- and D-pad buttons. Maybe I should get a dog...

Yeah, it'll work. Logitech ships Harmony remotes to NZ and offers support on them there, so they must work there. The only way you might run into trouble is if you're the very first person anywhere to use a particular piece of equipment with your remote. In that case, you'll have to go through the whole learning mode deal to teach your Harmony remote how to talk to that piece of equipment. If you're the second or greater person in the world to use that piece of equipment with a Harmony remote, you just download the IR profile for that bit of kit from the Logitech servers. It's a seriously brilliant setup.

Worse case scenario is that the IR codes aren't in the database (which i doubt is the case) and you teach it the commands from the master remote.

Even when you think you're going to be the first person, you probably won't be. To control my HTPC, I use an old IR receiver scavenged from a DVD decoder card I bought back when the average computer couldn't decode and display a DVD without dropping frames. So, several years old at least, and pretty obscure. I thought there was no way it'd be in the Harmony database. But it was.

the database of equipment is probably the greatest thing about harmony remotes. makes them so simple to set-up compared to some other universal remotes
Just a quick update on this. I got the Logitech One remote a few weeks ago and I love it. Great upgrade to the 880. The touchscreen is slick and the interface is great. I highly recommend it.
