    AHG WHAT

    That pisses me off.

Also: I can, I will, I do. War On Drugs. Conventioneers.

    Three fantastically beautiful songs.

Out of all the BNL songs I own, Conventioneers is the one that I just don't like. I keep deleting it because I don't want it to come up when I listen to albums, then I restore it for completionist's sake. It's like I can't decide.

This is really bad news, they are one of my favorite bands.

If this were any old American band they would have brushed this "scandal" off after a day and moved on.

But nooo, since they are popular and Canadian they therefor represent the country as whole, having to appear clean cut and friendly. I mean, I know they also wrote a children's album and all, but then again so did Madonna.

(This probably isn't the reason why they broke up but still, I like ranting about Canadian entertainment)

I'd rather they all just split than go on as a group, since Steven Page was BNL (no offence to the other members, but his quirky lyrics and awesome voice carried the band). Now I haven't really heard the other dude do main vocals, so it will be interesting to see where this goes to say the least.

The first Barenaked Ladies CD I ever listened to was found on the lawn of some strangers house. It was just laying there as my brother and I were walking home from school. So by found I mean stole, but really I just consider it a gift from Canada.

We weren't able to listen to it for a couple years though, since my family didn't own a CD player at the time.

So yeah, sad sad news. :(

Ed Robertson is a great songwriter and he's got a really good voice as well. And he's the only one to never do a side project or anything, and I'm pretty sure he was the first one to get the band going at the start of this. So while it sucks that Page is gone, they've still got a really good band left.

for example, here's robertson on his own

    Correct.

Although Page's voice is kind of the top layer of their sound. Listening to them after this is going to be like looking at my dad after he shaved his mustache.

    This is wrong.

BNL was an ensemble. While Steven Page was maybe the lead singer, Ed Robertson, Kevin Hearn and co contributed to the band just as much as Page ever did, and for that matter, I think Robertson songs are a touch more fun and interesting.

I'm going to listen to Maybe You Should Drive over and over and over again just like I did when I first got it on tape. And then everyone will hug and say they are sorry and pretend it never happened. Because that is how conflicts are resolved in Canada.
