Another glorious five-store failure!
Chatted a bit with a Best Buy cashier. She asked if I was going to get a PS3, and I said "Nah, I'm trying to get a Wii." She said they'll definitely get more in "before Christmas." The local Gamestop and EBGames guys both told other people "maybe tomorrow, but we really don't know for sure." Toys R Us didn't know anything, but they did have 5 Wiimotes and 9 classic controllers. I actually ran into a co-worker later on at Gamestop who got his Wii on launch day and had been looking for an extra
Target had nothing. Are there rumors going around about Target having Wiis advertised for a certain date, like tomorrow? I know Circuit City is supposed to have some on Saturday, but that's not feasible for me.
Our Wal-Mart has 9 Wiis, but they're not allowed to sell them until 12:01 on the 6th (Wed.) Guess I'll be waiting after school...
Wait, I'd heard Wal-Mart would have them on the 3rd... why are they holding them for a Wednesday?
Because Wal-Mart circular ads come out on Wednesdays, like grocery stores, instead of Fridays.
Um...isn't the 3rd a Sunday? So wouldn't that mean line-ups on Saturday night/Sunday morning?
Seems to make sense to me, from the perspective of somebody with standard M-F responsibilities.
My Wii is now crossing the midwest slowly in a UPS truck. Seriously, even assuming you have to deal with returning the extra shit in the Wal-Mart bundle, it's hella easier than the store-to-store grind. If it comes back in stock I highly recommend it.
As a warning, I have heard stories from a couple others of trouble getting the order (the rest of it, that is) canceled. It seems to depend what CSR you get on the phone. But even if that's an issue, you'd still be able to return them to the service desk at a local Walmart store.
Exactly. And nothing will even be charged until fucking Febuary. Plenty of time to get everything returned.
I wish I could give one of you guys my Wii. It's sitting at home in its box, not even hooked up. It has been there since launch.
Sorry, I know this is not helping, but it would kill me less inside if I knew someone was at least playing with it. (Oh, that and my mom not being a huge, unreasonable bitch. But that's a story for another time.)

You're right, I meant to put Sunday instead of Friday. Not sure why I did that..
All I know is that there's a Wii being held for me that can't be picked up until this Wednesday. Maybe it's different at other Wal-Marts, but that's how it is here.
I grow weary of the term "re-launch." I've used it myself, because I can't think of a better description...but it annoys me. The Wii has launched. All this is is "holding stock for a sales circular." I think this whole "re-launch" term is just something they use to make people less likely to string them up when they find out there are 50 Wiis sitting in the back that, for some reason, they are not allowed by the store to buy.
Nintendo has the authority to launch and "re-launch" consoles. Best Buy, or Wal-Mart, or whoever just have the authority to hoard stock.
Not that I mind terribly, because those of us with actual responsibilities on M-F (mine start at 8am, before even Target is open!) have a better shot of getting consoles this way. But it's just an annoying term.
Also, since somebody asked:
We got two separate tips today from our retail chain connection, both with info on forthcoming Wii and PlayStation 3 shipments. First, let's check in with our Circuit City pals:
"I work at Circuit City and we're supposed to be doing a company wide re-launch of the Wii on Sunday, December 3rd. My store is getting 54 units, which is slightly above the average of 40 or so, and every Circuit is getting between 15 and 132 consoles.
Also, every Circuit will be getting 5-40 PS3's across this week (before 12/1) and next week (between 12/1 and 12/6). My store is getting 26 across both weeks, which is once again above the average. The PS3's will be both 20 and 60 GB models. Mostly 60 GB's at roughly a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio. The PS3's are supposed to be sold upon receipt, so people might want to check their local store's truck schedule."
Sounds dangerously promising! But what about elsewhere?
Our Target retail spy had this to say:
"You guys shouldn't have a problem getting a Wii on sunday. Target has gotten about 50 each for Sunday. Most stores have sold them early, but if the stores where you guys are haven't you should be fine."
Since we can't verify this with 100% accuracy (or the blog standard 89% accuracy), we'll call this info "rumor" for now.
Now I'm giving you this information out of the kindness of my heart, dear reader. But if I show up at the Sunset Boulevard Circuit City on Sunday and come out sans Wii or PS3, I'm going to tear every one of you a new one. I'm not sure yet what fresh orifice it is I'll be tearing, but you probably won't like it.
Anybody have any experience with the Mall of America? I gues I'll have to go there to pick up a Wii if I want one before I go home after the term's done.

Apparently the EB Games, Gamestop, and Sears in my local mall haven't gotten any Wiis since Black Friday. The clerk at the EB said that they dont know when they come in, but that they should show up in either weekly or bi-weekly shipments

I did see about 5 Wiimotes at my local TRU today. And they had 1 at my local Gamestop earlier in the week, which I quickly snapped up. It seems to be completely random.
Just a question for you guys that haven't gotten a wii yet (sorry). I was able to snag one last Sunday by waiting for 2 hours in front of Bestbuy (not too bad, I guess, but I did seem to catch a cold).
Anyways, have most people tried camping (like, when there was definitely going to be some available)? I only ask b/c on Launch day, I didn't. I figured, I'd just wander in around opening time and try my luck.
There was no luck.
For the rest of the week, a significant portion of my time (when not working) was spent trying to get a wii somewhere.
I realized that the time/anxiety that I spent trying vainly to get a wii more than added up to the time that I would've spent just waiting on launch day.
So when last Sunday rolled around, with the Bestbuy re-launch thing, I got to my BB at like 7:45 in the morning, and sat my ass down and waited. I think it was worth it in the time/aggravation I saved over not having it right now.
So ... just wondering if all of the people still looking are just randomly trying to call stores and get lucky, or if you've all tried the wait-in-line-before-the-store-opens deal, and failed. In which case I'm sorry. However, if you've not tried that first ... it might, in the end, actually save you some time. I very quickly disavowed my stance that I would never camp out for a game console

If it weren't Sunday morning I could do it, but I'm in church so no dice. I think I might try Target if they're really doing it this time, they probably open early enough for it to work.

First when we were in the 'don't worry it'll be super easy to walk in and get a Wii' phase, I tried just that at about 11 am on launch day and of course everything was sold out
The second time I tried was the big Best Buy Sunday sale we just had. Thinking I had learned my lesson, I showed up 3 hours before the store was to open, only to be greeted by a line of about 80 people
Now that I'm on strike three, I'm just going to park myself outside of Circuit City this Saturday with food, water, warm clothing, and a DS around 11 to midnightish (with a pre-camp scouting a couple hours beforehand to see if I need to show up even earlier).

I guess the closest thing I got to camping out was showing up at Gamestop an hour before they opened on Black Friday. I'd meant to show up earlier, but my mind malfunctioned when the alarm went off and I ignored it twice. Anyway, I was #10 in line and they had 8.
Camping is not really an option for me thus far -- I've had to work every day that stores had advertised stock.

Trust me, Jesus will understand if you miss just this once. It's for a Wii, after all.
Preorders only for Gamecrazy. They got very few for launch so i expect them to get those out of the way first. The manager did say to customers that before Christmas they would have some in stock for walk ins. Last week they were not sure if the preorders would be filled by then. Guess Nintendo came through on the resupply.

Yeah, GameCrazy earned my eternal love with the Wii launch. I had to wait a total of one hour, inside the store, before I got a console. I forgive them entirely for that training video.
I tried calling stores and running around at various times of the day looking for one...to no avail.
Then I broke down and bought the $650 Wal-Mart bundle online when it showed in stock.
I've since managed with a single phone call to cancel all but one of the games (one had already shipped while I was waiting for verification from UPS that the console had left their warehouse), and the console is (according to my UPS widget) now in Kansas and will be at my doorstep by the end of next week.
$35 (shipping) and the hassle of having to exchange a single game in at my local Wal-Mart for something I actually want is well worth it to not have to do the store-to-store grind. Or the camping thing, which because I have school at 8am daily and National Guard drill at 8am both days this weekend is just not feasible for me.
I find it funny that he knew I was going to ask about the Wiimote. :P
Call my local Target and ask the operator for the electronics department, and the first thing they'll ask (before even transferring you) is if it's about the Wii.
My grandma needed something at Wal-Mart after she picked me up from school. So we headed off, I went to the video game department... Saw one... Creamed my pants... Grandma got credit card... We go Wii!... I have to wait till Christmas to play it!... And it's mocking me...
So basically I just walked in and got one at like 3:30PM. I'm the luckiest bastard alive.
just got off the phone with my local Walmarts and Circuit Cities. Seems like Sunday morning is going to be the day to shop.
Someone explain to me why they don't do waiting lists or preorders?. It just seems to me a much better way of doing things...call once, get your name on a list. when the shit comes in, call the person up, if they arent there within a certain time frame..go to the next person on the list.
clerks aren't hassled answering the same question over and over, phone lines arent tied up and most of all no camping.
I went to like six stores today and NONE had nunchucks.
We have a bunch. : /
I suppose I don't really need an extra one because on Wii Sport boxing and some Monkey Ball mini-games use it (in games I own), but I imagine I'll need one eventually and it feels kind of weird having an extra remote without it's other half.

Like, BB gets say 12 new wiis on sunday. Will they also perhaps get like 5 more extra wiimotes at the same time/shipment?

Likely not. Controller/accessory shipments appear to be in no way connected or related to console shipments.
