So I am having one heck of a time trying to track down a Wii, and I know I'm not alone. I thought that, rather than having to dig through the Wii thread for tidbits of information, this thread could serve as a place for people to post any hot tips or information on stores getting restocked or new shipments coming in.
For example, had I known that every Futureshop in Canada had twenty Wiis for sale starting first thing this morning, I would have been out there at 8 AM in line. This is the thread to post any such information.
The word on the street is that every Best Buy is going to have at least 12 Wiis on Sunday.
So did anyone attempt to get a Wii at Best Buy this morning?
Were any in stock?
I'm trying to get some confirmation on the Sunday rumor.
I work there, it's not a rumor. Every Best Buy has to have at least the minimum amount that's in the add. I haven't seen it yet, but I think it's 20. My store has 27 all ready to go. Best Buy was not allowed to sell them today.

Also, does anyone know the cause of the shortages? I feel like an idiot for believing the whole "walk in the door at launch and get your Wii, 4 million by the end fo the year!" talk, but I haven't heard any reasons why this isn't the case.

I believe the figures were:
4 million for a worldwide launch
6 million by the end of the year.
It might have been 6 million by the end of the fiscal quarter.

Extreme demand?
Eh, The Wii had about twice the number of units available as the PS3 when it launched. That's hardly "walk in the door and pick one up" numbers. I think even the PS2 launched with higher numbers than that.
What time does Best Buy open? I probably won't beat the early lines for the Wii, but I'm hoping once the people in the Wii lines get one, there might be one or two left for the snagging.
This was posted in the Wii thread, but I'll post it here as well.
Every Best Buy location, at least in the US, was told to hold every single Wii system for this Sunday and not just the minimum that's in the ad (which is either 12 or 20, I'll have to check that tomorrow). Most stores should have them already in the back, or locked up somewhere.
We have 25+ the last time I checked, and I work at a pretty small location.
Not applicable to anyone outside of London, Ontario, but just incase there are some of you, every Futureshop (in london) has 25 wii's per day until Sunday

I was surprised at the amount of Wii scalpers at launch. They may not be a problem this time since they're not making much profit.
I'm still waiting for the girl I bought a Wii off of on eBay to read my messages so she can fix her Paypal and accept my payment. If nothing else, since I have no idea if I'm going to have to just eat the chunk of cash I bid or not and write it off, I'm trying to pick up a Wii locally. If I DO finally get the eBay Wii, that's being shipped off to my girlfriend.
But it's really, really annoying to be so close and yet so fucking far.

Someone I play hockey with said that they were putting out PS3's this morning without telling anyone, so I figured they should haev Wii's too. I set my alarm but then it never went off, and by the time I woke up they were all gone.
Every time I go to Best Buy or something and ask, I get insulted. Apparently it's funny that I can't just camp out overnight or something because I work early and weekends and I'd lose my job.
"We've been out since SUNDAY. You should've lined up if you wanted one, duh." "You wanna go work my hours, shit head? Go on, go work my hours. Someone would need to cover them. Or am I to assume that you couldn't do a job more demanding than 'stand around, insult customers, drool'?"

All Brits out there, where should I grab a Wii come EU launch?
I'm thinking just hitting the highstreet, seeing as on 360 launch I simply walked into HMV and got one right then and there.
Still, Im tempted to pre-order from Game, heck, after spending all my money there I have probably 100 quid off on my reward card. That would be a 70 quid Wii. Haha.

Honestly it depends on where you live. In the city or other places that have a high population (of kids/teens/whatever goes with it). Some places like New York got a huge amount of Wiis and they did not run out of them. I got in line in a Toys R Us an hour and a half before it opened and was near the front of the line (it quadrupled by the time it opened). While people in other places had to wait in huge lines for hours and have stores run out of them.

It's the same when I went to Futureshop.

How did you find that out?
One of our futureshops relocated, so they had a big grand opening sale, which was actually city wide... I was standing outside as they were handing out the Wii Tickets, and overheard the employees saying they had more in the back, and then the one say "no, we need to keep 50 back there right now" (It's a weekend long grand opening sale) Also, if you're hoping to get in on that, they dont open till 10AM, but handed out today's tickets at about 8:30 - 8:45 so I'd expect about the same time tommorow.

I don't see how that's insulting. The system sold out on Sunday as soon as the doors opened, it sold out in under a minute on amazon.com and it's not like the media hasn't been reporting on the lines for system launches.
As for getting the Wii, I've been using http://www.nowinstock.net/ , but it's very unreliable. It's really just a good collection of links for stores that are selling it online.

It's insulting because, while I understand they tend to sell out fast, rubbing it in my face like that is just being an ass.
"Haha you work so you couldn't sit in line AND keep your job, so no Wii for you!" They don't even help me, they basically just tell me to go away. At least say "Sorry, man, that sucks. But, we haven't gotten any more. Believe me, if we knew when we'd have more, we'd tell you."

Ask someone when the Wii will arrive, and they will smile at you sympathetically, placatingly, and say "Someday."
Men stand on street corners saying they've played it, and it is good. People pass by them, shaking their heads in pity, clutching their bags a little tighter.
There's whispers that if you walk down the right alley downtown, you can pay someone a hefty sum to hold a Wiimote for a short time.
I was planning on going tomorrow and starting my camp when the store closed. Is that too late? Do I need to arrive earlier in the day? I figured I'd bring a chair, warm clothes, a book maybe if there's some lighting, a few bottles of water, my DS, and I'd buy a new CD player at best buy right before it closed.
Also: How exactly does one take a bathroom break from standing in a line outside of a goddamn bestbuy. Will this not work for me unless I've got a team or at least someone else to hold my place?

Depends on the composition of the line. If the people around you are cool guys, they'll probably hold your spot for you. People left the front of the line at Gamestop this morning all the time, and we held their spot. In return, when I had to go to the ATM a few hundred yards away they saved my spot. The line at a Best Buy will probably be pretty long, though, increasing the chances of being in line with a bunch of assholes. Might want to bring someone with you.
We've got a pack of 'em holed up in the woods to the east. They're new in town so they probably won't find their way out too quick, but ya'll best get down here soon. They're getting pretty feisty, Garrett tried to sneak up on one from behind an' done got his hand bit.
I'm finding the idea of spending enormous amounts of time waiting outside a retailer more and more distasteful.
If I'm going to get my Wii, I'm going to try to do it with a little more dignity and decorum then some of the shit I've witnessed in the last week.
When I see the police breaking up line fights between assholes crawling over each other to grab a new game system, I really start to sympathize with the people who trash consumerism and question the value of a free market economy.
But anyway, I think I'm going to just hit Best Buy about an hour before they open on Sunday. If I get a Wii, awesome. If not, I'll try my luck again some other day.

The prevalent rumor I've been hanging onto is that Best Buy is releasing their stock of Wiis on Sunday.
Best Buy is one of those stores.
Best Buy is also one of the stores that usually have lines wrapping around their store at 3AM. You'd have to get in line tonight.

Okay, cool, thanks. I can never really be sure who takes what. The EBGames at my local mall doesn't, for example.
