Wow. The European LOTRO site *is* gorgeous. I never thought the US one was bad until I saw the EU one. Thanks a lot, mang.
Also, always loved that comic, doj.
Edit: Well, it's 6 pm EST. There's another full day of downtime in the books. Man, I don't know...I can't speak for everyone, but I'm only willing to tolerate this for so long. Thing is, if it's not LOTRO, it's nothing (for me, anyway). LOTR is the only property for which I am willing to pay a subscription fee, so if this one doesn't work out, I'll be moving away from MMO's all together.
6:40PM: We are working to bring the remaining servers up and online one at a time. Our best estimate at this time is to have all servers open by 9:00PM Eastern (-4 GMT). We will revise this estimate as necessary!
*sigh*
If this turns into a normal occurrence, I'm with you, Triple. I'm willing to cut them some slack on account of the datacenter change, but unless they show some good will back to the players when this is all over - assuming it's over very, very soon - I can't see this being a company I want to give my money to.
this is really pathetic. How long was this originally supposed to be down, four hours? That's turned into "hopefully we'll have everything back up by the twelve hour mark." FAAANTASTIC.
I mean, what's the point of having a game if it's going to be completely unavailable on the day of the week I actually have time to play it?
also, this is why you buy time cards instead of giving your credit card information.

Man, fuck Turbine. Those bastards aren't getting another cent of my--oh god Landroval is up sweet sweet nectar all is forgiven
Hopefully the downtime involved getting the Dwarf king some special locks to his trowsers so that the Great Thorin's Hall Lockdown(tm) doesn't happen again.

You know, I don't think CoH has had a major server issue like this since the first year of its existence. Maybe Turbine ought to follow NCSoft's lead and beef up its servers.
Come to think of it, NC Soft increased server capacity with out anything like this happening.

They just changed data centers, though, didn't they? That's a bit more complex than just throwing more RAM and CPUs at the problem. That's a pretty enormous change.
Not sure what to tell you. Probably to stop being such whiny nitwits. World of Warcraft would have a 5 AM to 11 AM downtime, that's six hours every week. And of course, they usually extended it by another 2-3 hours, which would make 8-9 hours of downtime. I've had some horror stories with that game, none of which I want to share.
LOTRO is going through a rough patch right now. It's not as bad as it seems. Just give them a chance to work out the bugs and stop crying for their heads.

That's funny, because we just so happen to have an open position for a high-level guardian in The Barrovian Society!

I played for a little bit, really just running around and getting pretty shots. It's a shame it wasn't the daytime for LOLBLOOM but the aurora borealis effect in Forochel was nice.
spoiler'd for omg huge
The bridge between Dwarf country and The Shire
Wow, the statue actually looks like a king. With textures turned down he looks like a vaguely person-shaped blob.
A bridge in Evendim. ooh, water.
Oh, I love the end of the Man dance. Also, landscape.
This shot gets how pretty the borealis is along with how well the water reflects everything.
So, all in all, a pretty game.

I've come to learn that Moria is a gigantic pain in the dick to get around in.
Can't ride my horse? Check.
Place is one big giant fucking maze? Check.
Enemies everywhere that won't let you cross the goddamn street without throwing spears or something at you? Double-check.
Man, I'm too tired for this tonight. I'll delve more greedily and more deep tomorrow.

At least someone gets it. The servers have been pretty much flawless since launch. Turbine is just having a lot of bad luck with server stability right now for some god awful reason.

Yeah, Turbine's been so great that the community has become spoiled. -.-

What level do I need to be for Great Barrows? I'm only lvl 15 as of last night. Finally get to use the frikkin sweet halberd PMAvers made me though. Anyways if it's late enough (10pm central or so) and 15 is high enough I'd love to go.
15's a bit low, but I'm only 19 myself. I think that the final quest there is marked at level 23, so I'm hoping to hit level 21 before I go. which I may or may not do. As it stands though, I've got Book 1 Chapter 11 to deal with, which is closer to our level, once you get that we can put together a group tonight and go for it.

If you guys are really hard-up to go Great Barrow'ing, then shoot me a tell and I'll tag along. Should make it pretty easy, having a level 54 hunter along for the ride.
I think I might be on sometime tonight! If Khelza's on, it sounds like they're an officer too

Is true. I'm an officer and can do invites. Does anybdoy still use the PA private channel? It's still set up to go on automatically for me, but I don't remember what I did to activate it. Otherwise just /tell me with your forum name and I'll invite.

I have some missions to do there, and Minas Eriol is pissing me off, so if this happens while I'm on, I am in. Not sure when I'll be on today though, important hockey game to watch as well.
This has been sort of annoying me of late. I'm wondering if it's just me, or my server, or the way the game is.
When I played about a year ago, the population was pretty low on Silverlode. Groups your own level weren't real easy to come by. But the people I did meet tended to be pretty cool. Very friendly, usually talkative and helpful.
Playing today, it seems that the population is a lot higher, but the problem is that it's all a bunch of illiterate jackasses. /advice, /lff, /glff, region... if anyone's talking at all, it liek dis u now how many u got GBD 2/6 ned heelz.
What the hell happened? People join your group, then bolt without saying a word. When they talk, chances are they come across like an absolute idiot. I don't get it. This isn't the community I remember. It makes me want to not socialize at all. And at that point, why the hell even bother with a MMO?
EDIT: I just left a group with a Warden 10 levels higher than me who, after doing Retake Weathertop and a couple other group quests in the Lone Lands, sends me a tell asking "why u dun use gambets?"
...
You would think the fact that I was the one pulling aggro off of him might have clued him into the fact that I was using my gambits. Or maybe the glowing red spear? Or Shield Up? That one's kind of hard to miss. Or how about Goad?
Where did these people come from?

The answer to your question is simple, my friend. "These people" as it were...came from World of Warcraft.
t Inx: very good idea
tPMAvers: remember Sting? Bilbo's/Frodo's sword? It lighted up when orcs were close. They added a vaguely similar effect on some weapons with the last patch, iirc.
So I didn't get to do Great barrow last night, and I'm still stuck on 1.11 of the epic quest line. I'm level 20 and about 90% to 21. But I won't get to play again until tomorrow at best, or more likely, Friday. Does anyone think they'll be up to running GB on friday?
There's a title you can add to legendary weapons that gives your weapon that glow around orcs (and increased damage to them). It's not like it's not obvious that there's a big orc standing in ones way, but it's a really cool touch.

Yeah, Sting was what I was thinking of.
Granted, there's no orcs around... guess it threw me since these were just nifty crafted weapons, not legendary or anything.

is there a list of these names somewhere then? or am i misinterpreting?
Graargh for some reason i SUCK at the Warden quest where you have go in solo and help holdn the line against brigands, and if your buddy dies, youre all fucked.

I suck at protecting stupid NPCs.
Have you tried using the Fist line of gambits to draw aggro? That and chucking javelins at the oncoming orcses is the way I beat it. You have to admit, it's a pretty neat class quest

A title is an item that is applied to your legendary weapon (which you can first get at lvl 45), it changes the type of damage of the weapon, or adds these sorts of +X damage to Y creature type. The side effect of the +damage to orc-kind is the blue glowey.
You can chose your first title as part of the quest where you get your first legendary (Book 2, vol 1), and once inside moria, there are quests in Dolven View (4.. maybe more?) that each has titles and LI XP rewards.
