I love mah shottyguns.
I wish there was an easier way to poke eachother while playing so we could buddy up more, guess we just have to rely on the tags for now until we come up with a better way.
I really, really want to like this game. I think the setpieces are amazing and the feel of the guns and weight behind everything you do is fantastic, but I just feel like I'm fighting the controls so much. I don't know if it's the Dualshock or the Killzone controls themselves, but I overshoot everything I aim at and it's really fucking annoying.
Huh, overshoot? Have you tried lowering the sensitivity? I was having the opposite problem, I didn't feel like I was turning fast enough, you might have set it too high from the beginning. Being too fast and loose is definitely not a problem with the default controls.
I think I've figured out why aiming is wonky for me. When normally aiming, slowly, it aims pretty slowly. However, when I get into firefights I tilt the stick all the way, because I panic, and when you tilt the stick all the way to the end that gun whips around like a sonofabitch. I need to learn to stay calmer and aim a bit more methodically. I'm still doing slightly decent, though. At least, I'm better than I thought I was, and better than my first game with this would have me believe I was.
We need to set up an official PA game one of these nights, and maybe have an official day/time every week that we all play together (like we did with Warhawk).
Finally finished it. The set pieces get fucking nuts near the end.
It ending also sets up some interesting possibilities for future games, hopefully none of which are set on Helghan. I liked all the different locales in Killzone 2 but I don't really think there's that much more to see there.
On another note, fuck John Davison and David Ellis on 1UP Yours/Listen Up. Those tossers managed to spoil all the major points of the game and I'm now done with their podcast. I'm not too broken up about it because it's become a complete bore anyway.

I've tried every sensitivity setting in the game. The aiming controls are terrible, and with no aim assist, it's almost to the point where I can't even play the game.
Freakin beautiful! I love the MP maps I've played on. Multiple levels, choke points, back and forth map flow...and the asthetic is very much in line with the setting. The levels also recall a lot of the run down Sci-fi movies such as Blade Runner, Aliens, etc...
I thought I was doing good till I played a couple more games. And I kind of agree with SyphonBlue... I really want to love the game... but how do you even kill moving targets. I can't fathom anyone being able to accurately trace someone across the screen and shoot at them? I need an FAQ for this damn MP.
Should I even be using the ironsights on guns? Should I ever even fire while moving? Should I even bother firing at moving targets or is it a waste? I feel like I'm playing with my feet. I see mans, I want to shoot said mans, and I end up hitting everything but the manses. Or when I do hit them, they turn around and kill in what feels like a 1-shot. meanwhile it takes a half a clip for me to bring someone down.

Shooting that I've found so far at least, is very Counter Strike. You want short burst and you want to give room for your gun to jump around a bit from recoil. Don't go out guns a blazin either. Look where you cover is, move from cover to cover and keep your sights in the open space.
I really, really want to like this game. No, you're right. The aiming is terrible. Play a game of Rainbow Six or Call of Duty and you'll be able to spot the problem.
First, the dead zone is huge. A very slight push on the stick doesn't even register as movement, so you need to push a little farther. Second, when you let off the stick, the camera still pans for a brief millisecond instead of stopping instantly. This causes you to overcompensate by turning the other direction. The problem is, because the dead zone is so large AND the additional camera movement, you can never seem to hit your target square on.
The first Killzone had this exact same problem. So, it's a design choice that the developers chose. It's a terrible choice and knocks this game down significantly. With no autoaim to make up for this you're left with many missed shots and the experience becomes much more frustrating than playing Resistance 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 1/2, or any of the Call of Duties.
It's really too bad because the graphics, sound, and art are all top notch. It's no good if the control is poor, though. I'm not enough of a graphic whore to really put up with it so I'm probably going to trade it in.
Anyone wanna host a PA game real quick like? On the US server, name it like, PA, password WANG or some odd thing?
Oh, and there IS auto aim. I found it to hinder me more than not, because I would get thrown off by it suddenly shifting me slightly to the left or right, and I would aim way past the dude.
Just played a couple games of MP with some PA people. I really like the Squad system in this game. It's simple, but it goes a long way in getting you back in the action quickly. I'm pretty bad in general at FPS multiplayer (not that I don't enjoy it) , but I feel like I could actually get alright at this. I'm definitely looking forward to playing this a lot more.
Just played a bit more MP with another PAer, and it just gets better. You really feel like you're in the middle of an all-out warzone. The aiming feels very realistic and just gets you more into it, I think. With the way it is now, the game's all about finding cover, and picking the right moment to pop out and shoot. You need to flank more and generally play smarter. You can't just run in and expect to be accurate enough to kill everyone within a 10 foot radius like other shooters.
wow, i haven't posted in this place in like a year, but i wanted to drop in and throw out my PSN, wouldn't mind playing with more people than just arcadians

i'm starting to get used to the aiming, after a few rounds of being in the bottom of the score lists at the end of the matches i had a amazing match where I ended up in second place.
Whoever made the comparison to counter strike was dead on the money. It's all about short bursts, not moving while shooting if you can help it, and being very slow and methodical.
The game is sort of like a cross between Counter-Strike and CoD4, I'm starting to really enjoy it.

Definitely. And that's why it feels more realistic to me. You're not going to snipe someone from across the map with a pistol, and it makes me angry that it can actually happen in a lot of FPSs. The way this plays you really have to learn the maps and get behind this in order to flank or just generally hit your enemy before they hit you.

I never tried the demo. My mistake, because the aiming in this game is just plain bad. I don't give a shit if it was done in the name of realism or not, it's distracting as hell.
Hmm..I'm gonna need to add some officers to the ingame clan thing if I'm ever going to keep up with managing every one you freaks. Any of you guys that might be interested that have any experience managing a clan / guild let me know if your interested.
No offense, but why does a loose collection of people who just want to play together need any kind of managing?
Basically its not nessicarily like, organizing the masses, but more keeping up with people needing invited and stuff. Its really just helping with backend work. Also if we decide to get some of us organized to some extent then we would need officers to organize matches and stuff.

I'll echo this sentiment. The controls in this game are fuckawful.
It's really a shame because I feel like I'm fighting the controls to get to the awesome game underneath.
The controls are the hurdle which you must leap. Frankly, I kinda like it. It's not arcadey, it's not loosey. At this point, it's all new to all of us. Some will get it and thrive, others won't.
I heard one guy complain that it wasn't enough like Halo, that he kept missing. "I can dominate in Halo, but not here! It sucks!" I was...amused.
I'm not sure if it was the server or the engine, but playing MP I notice a slight delay between a shotgun blast and my prey falling down. That removes me a little from the experience. That being stated, the number of times I've come up behind 3 or 4 opponents and layed waste to them with 4 shells...oh so glorious. And the SMG just shoots lead like a hose.
And I'm still a standard soldier! I can't wait until I can unlock some of the classes. (EDIT: Where's that KZ2 MP advancement chart? EditX2: Here it is. <- Good info for OP!)
Oh, and if you're a corporal or higher...please, make squads. Damn, those are useful. I might not be the best squadleader, but after being on a team or two where only 1 squad was made, I said screw it, I'm making squads even if I suck. It was actually fun finding a hiding spot and letting my squadmates spawn on top of a capture and hold location. Opposing team never found me....heh.
In other words, at the moment, it's all about the MP for me. I'll get back to the SP soon, yeah, but the MP is still too fun.
I perused the thread earlier and thought "hm, a lot of people can't seem to plug into the controls". Then I hopped into the game, and I just finished Visari Square.
While the waves of Helghast smashed against our indominable ISA resolve it occurred to me, "man, those guys don't know what they're missing." I don't know why Sev does exactly what I tell him to but others just can't get the same experience out of it - and that really sucks, 'cause even though you're fighting swarms of fairly samey human(oid)s and there don't seem to be any epic, gigantic monsters to face, this is one hell of an experience. Or maybe that's why, I dunno.

I would definitely like to do some clan matches and what not. I am unavailable at 7/8 tonight unfortunately, but we should try to do regular matches. I haven't looked into fully what the whole clan points and valor stuff does (and killzone.com is down right now so cant look ) but should be fun regardless.

Guys, I think that tonight, we should have our first organized clan match. Like, at 7 or 8 PST, o algo.
We will all fight and die.
I was checking that out, would mind setting up a clan match between PA and 360 Arcadians. I'll see if I can get something going.
I would be all over a match tonight. I'm going to be on at about 3 or 4 PST and on from then, so I'm up for MP anytime after that.
Fair warning though, I'm an online MP noob and will probably suck. I'm good fodder.
And I've got one of those cool MGS4 bluetooth headsets.

It is amazing how aim-assist is ignored by the vast majority of console shooter players. It's in almost every game, it helps significantly but there are plenty or people who'll swear up and down that it's 100% them aiming with no computer assistance.
Killzone 2 has very little aim assist (we should really stop calling it auto-aim, because that's something different entirely), and even then it only assists when shooting from the hip (which is pretty inaccurate compared to iron sights). I think this will make Killzone 2 a benchmark to see if you can truly master thumbstick aiming, because the game really doesn't hold your hand while aiming like in most other games.
Personally, I HATE the imprecision of any console shooter (even WITH aim assist), but Killzone 2 is so much fun I don't mind overcoming the inherent weakness of it. I know we'll never get full-fledged mouse support on consoles because of the "couch lobbyists", but I still can't understand why a console manufacturer hasn't stepped up to make one of these:
This would solve most if not all of the aiming issues inherent in thumbstick aiming while appeasing the "couch lobbyists".

Hell the aiming is like heaven compared to RSV2, not like thats saying much But yea, the aiming is difficult but not gamebreaking IMHO. I've played alot worse, but COD4 did really bring the standard up and makes everything subpar to that just look bad.
I think the aiming being fucking annoying is part of the game. I've always felt like it's trying to replicate the feeling of actually using a gun in real life; it's never easy and precise. You're always struggling to get that perfect shot off every time, even in close quarters. It's a constant challenge.
