The Path: The point of the game is to break the rules.
So this looks really awesome, I'm just going to quote the site since they cover the premise very well.
So what is The Path? Described by the creators as a short horror game, the Path unfolds around a simple goal. You must guide six sisters to their grandmother’s house, who has fallen ill. As you probably already guessed grandma’s house lies at the end of a long path that is surrounded by a dense, unending forest. Before departing, you are warned to stay on the path. And you can. In fact, after a brisk linear jog, you will arrive at your grandmother’s house unscathed. But when was following the rules ever fun? The point of The Path is to break the golden rule – to leave the path and explore the area around it.
A quick search didn't show any other threads on this, which was surprising considering how awesome it sounds.
I was hoping it was more along the lines of breaking video game rules
you find a fully automatic 9 mm with 32 ammo, and look for the rightful owner instead of pocketing it
you dont enter everyones home and just open cabinets and drawers
a wierd scientists promises to give you super powers for finding his lost 'son' and you tell him to get lost kind of deal

That reminds me of a PlayStation RPG called Moon (released in Japan only) where you play as a kid who gets sucked into the world of a GameStation RPG called Fake Moon. In the game world, it turns out all the townspeople think the hero (not the character you play as, but the hero of the game you get sucked into) is a real jerk, because he goes around killing small animals with his sword to gain levels, breaking into people's houses to steal their stuff, and other such things.
Yeah it looks very interesting but I dont know about paying for it. So much other things that this will have to slip by. Id have to see more about this I think.

I'd give it a rental, but it honestly sounds like something that could have been put into another game but as a part of it. Not a full on game by itself.
You can walk down the path and "win", but learn nothing of the world it presents.
Or go into the forest, find coins and abandoned teddy bears that trigger flashbacks, which unlocks certain doors in Grandma's House...and die.
I, for one, eagerly anticipate breaking the Rule of Rose.
Wait, is it possible to win even if you do get off the beaten path?
Because I'm not touching a game where the protagonist dies (or rather, where the character you control HAS TO die).

When I first read this I immediately thought the game sounded like garbage. Why make a game with almost no direction whatsoever, where the only real goal was to do nothing?
But then the more I looked into it, the more interesting it sounded.
The website is flash based, so I can't copy/paste the text, but seriously, if the whole game is written like the character descriptions, this is just going to be awful.
"When people ask about her leg brace, she says it hurts, but she doesn't say where."

It is grim and shadowed. You are likely to be eaten by a wolfoid.
Here's the full text of that little bio (painstakingly transcribed)
Ruby. The other girls call her "goth" ... It's one way of killing people: stereotyping them, putting them in a box and throwing it away. But there's more to Ruby than meets the eye. A young lady by now, 15 years of age. Life has opened up to her as a rotting flower of corruption. She can see through it all but remains an enigma herself.
When asked about her leg brace, Ruby says she's in pain. But doesn't specify where it hurts.
Ruby does not long for death. She takes a perverse pleasure in observing the extreme decay of adult society. But what will happen when she ceases to be a witness and becomes a participant herself?
Seriously, whoever wrote that is WAY too impressed with themself. I mean, reallY?

So do all of these girls share the same grandma or something?

That's really shitty writing worthy of a goth angsty teenager... The whole "i know the truth about rotteness of the world" thing sucks hard.

Typically sisters do have the same grandma.

I'm not buying it. Yes there's usually one in the bunch that goes through a emo/goth/theworldsucks phase. But the whole pea pod? I mean they're all sisters! Couldnt they comfort themselves and cheer eachother up?

Ruby is the goth one
the game has a whole goth coating as well, though
because whoever wrote it clearly was too impressed with themselves to take any kind of critique on the whole thing being more absurd than anything,.
Dependant on price I'm quite intrigued by this. Looks creepy and interesting.
Yes, it's over the top gothy, but it's meant to be and it's aware it is. Jesus people. Take it as it's intended, a bit of interactive storytelling rather than a game in the traditional sense.
Well, it would have been nice if they became even more aware of it and made it good instead.

Intuition tells me not to spend money on this.

Edit: I guess this is the game site, above is developer's site:
http://grandmothers-house.net/
That was yours?
I never played it but I saw videos.
Yeah I made that.
It sounds like the kind of idea that the creators are far more proud of than they deserve to be.
edit: not that it's such a horrible idea, it just sounds smug to me, for the game to be ONLY that

Good show. I only watched the LP though, never played it myself.
Well hell, why not. Here it is.
The main game at least, the ending is in the next video
It's PC, so you WON'T be giving it a rental
That was AMAZING.
Back on topic, though, the concept does seem pretty interesting. It's a shame that previews said it was bad, though...
Good job, Sporky.
Any how, I could see this being a cheap xbox live game or something, emphasis on cheap.

Ill be keeping an eye on this one.

Yeah I know, it sounds stupid. But it's fun.
