I prefer it when the impossible situations come after the big fights. Dark Knight did it, and Superman did it, but Spider-man fucked it up by doing the reverse.

What do you mean by impossible situations?

I'm going to spoiler all of these even though it's totally unnecessary.

    In The Dark Knight:
the entire final standoff with Two Face is presented as a no-win situation that serves as the culmination of a series of impossible choices and stand offs.

    In Spider-Man:
The bridge scene, with both the tram and Mary Jane.

    In Superman:
Superman stops the villains, but fails to foil their plot in time. Because of this, the San Andreas fault-line cracks, and Lois dies. So, he turns back time.

The basic idea is that a situation is presented to the viewer in a way where it has no positive outcome. The hero then uses their abilities to turn the situation around, and manage to completely save the day.

Are we talking about how boring and generic the final confrontations of most comic book movies are?

Spider-Man 3, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and Wolverine have all been guilty of that.

Thats the only truly great part of that film. No fucking about, hes a super villain, grandstanding doesnt count for shit against him, bam, out of the fucking way. Its what GG should have done to those punks on the bridge.

It was very satisfying, like revenge for the stupid garbage throwing civilians in the first movie. If they want to empower the common person in the face of supervillains, they have to do it the way Dark Knight did with the ferrys. They didn't join hands to form a human shield to protect Batman.

Also, I would love for this to come to fruition: An Alibi movie. The comic had one of my all-time favorite comic book lines, "I just punched a bitch in the throat".

It was part of Pilot Season 2008. There was only one book. The way Pilot Season worked the first two years was that they released a bunch of one-shots ("Pilots", using TV parlance, which is kind of fucked) and then had readers vote on them. Last year they put the entire issues up for free during the voting period, and Alibi was one of the losers. He mentions another really good one, Genius, in the interview. Hickman did one in 2007, "The Core" which was pretty neat, and he explains a lot of the backstory in one of the wordballoon podcasts.

Anyway, I think the book that won was the psuedo-noir book where mythological creatures live in a "real" world, and this year's Pilot Season starts in a few months.

Okay, that's why I never finished reading Alibi :) . I feel dumb now - I read all the Pilot season stuff and even vote for Alibi. Yeah, the book that won was that Twilight Guardian, but I'm not even sure any issues got published - I haven't seen them.

So I logged onto XBox Live a little while ago, and... the demo for Batman: Arkham Asylum can now be downloaded. The game is coming out for PC and PS3 as well, but I dont know if there are demos for that platform. If you haven't heard, Batman: Arkham Asylum is the new, big-budget Batman video game that brings back most of the voice cast from Batman The Animated Series. Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Bob Hastings (Commissioner Gordon), and Arleen Sorkin (Harley) are all in the demo. I've already played through it twice :). If you like video games or the Batman TAS, you have to check this thing out. It is so much fun.

The storyline is set firmly in the comic book world (Batman has radio contact with Oracle during the game) pre-RIP but still feels like it could be an episode of the animated show. The game starts with Joker and Harley taking control of Arkham - with Batman locked inside, along with a big portion of his rogues gallery. Batman has a great tactical vision mode on his cowl, the grapple gun, batarangs and lots of other toys.

    It's definitely worth a download.

This has been a really great summer for superhero games. We've already had Prototype and Infamous, which were a lot of fun even if they weren't based on established comic properties. Infamous had great lightning powers and was really a comic book version of GTA, and Prototype was basically a simulator of what it would be like to be Venom/Carnage loose in Manhattan with no pesky Spiders to stop you.

Then there was the Wolverine Origins game, which was better than the movie, had a lot of great comic book nods, and really let you feel like Wolverine.

I've also been playing the beta of Champion Online, with my Ghost Rider-esque character totally rocking the game, which feels like City of Heroes 2.

And in the next couple months, we have the excellent Arkham Asylum coming out, Ultimate Alliance 2, and Superhero Squad, which looks to be Smash-Brothers-Meets-Marvel.

So I saw GI Joe this afternoon and it was a very bipolar movie. Half good half terrible. Lots of cliches, scenes stolen straight from Star Wars, and bullets do absolutely nothing in this GI Joe world, but Snake Eyes steals the scene every chance he can and Marlon Wayans was actually pretty good, making the character go a bit beyond wisecracking black guy.
The kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun is the bad guy behind it all, who was the brother of Sienna Miller's character but was "killed" during a covert mission that Duke blamed himself for, and was controlling everyone with nanobots, including Sienna Miller, which helps explain how she goes from a woman who had no military training to being one of the top leaders of Cobra. Also, she had Blonde hair and was good but then when she was bad she had black hair. This is proof blondes are better.

And how do you resolve the senate scene with giving a high ranking soldier a suit of his own armour? The government is just gonna let him roam around without handing it over?

It was more the Gary Shandling cussing and Tony acting like he wouldn't at least treat the panel with some respect instead of flirting with Pepper or the crowd. Unless they've made him be drunk everywhere in this sequel and he's going up to capitol hill shitfaced.

I thought that Rhodey might have received his armor as part of a compromise between SHIELD and the US government, that being that SHIELD gets Iron Man and the army gets War Machine.

Of course they would, but I imagine that it's missing a lot of Stark's proprietary tech, namely the repulsor tech. That would explain why it's outfitted with conventional firearms.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the stripped down WM is completely non-lethal.
