Fergie has such a masculine face in actuality. Her face is pretty angular. I think you softened her features a lot in your painting.

Really tiny feet and hands. Also, I feel that you are thinking too much about lines and not enough about shapes. Who was your instructor?

    Also that is pricey.

and lips, I try to line up the edges of the lips with the pupils, that's the usual rule anyway.

e: then again, is this supposed to be a charicature? Seems like a cross over been one and an accurate portrait.

I think the faces in these are the weakest part. Like Cake said, it seems like you're trying too hard to "draw" the faces than fleshing them out by identifying the individual planes.

Edit: Also, maybe the portrait dude had a tiny face in relation to his head, but it looks like maybe you focused on drawing his individual features before actually getting accurate proportions. If you block everything in first lightly in pencil, the proportions will usually come out better. If I had to guess, I'd say you started at the eyes and worked your way through the nose and mouth before moving on to the rest of the skull and head. That's just a guess though.

Heh Cake. You should be teaching, that was the same thing I heard from them except the hands and feet. No one mentioned that.

Clumsy.. everything. Im still breaking charcoal pencils left and right.

They probably want to focus one on thing at a time with you which is generally a good idea. Sometimes proportional issues like that can be solved by solving the shape analysis issue first.

Breaking pencils is annoying, especially because it takes so long to sharpen the buggers, but you will get a feel for the pressure sensitivity of those things pretty quick.

Jesus I love these things, I could fill a house with your art.

My only beef with this one is the robots right swatting arm (his right, your left), the hand is reading "palm down" and the structure is very flat. So it looks as though the arm is rotated around the wrong way.

Also there is a lot of disparity between the thickness of the wrist of the left arm, in comparison with the right. But that's more of a nit-pick than a stand out issue.

Your figures still seem a lot more focused on contour than forms. It's not something you can expect to fix overnight but good contour comes from good forms. Once you get the big shapes working you can easily lay the muscles and fat on top of it.

I am talking mostly just about your figure drawings. Whenever I comment you can expect that is mostly what I am talking about unless I say otherwise. I rarely comment on anything but figure drawings on this forum since that is my primary knowledge base.

Ahh nice! Been AWOL for awhile always nice to come back and see what you're up to Ken.

I really loved the life drawing sketches you've been doing. Great job establishing the planes with differing values. Gave the faces a good amount of depth and structure. One crit would be to maybe try and loosen up those lines tad? I'm nitpicking though.

The paintings are always tops, man do you have a knack for the narrative.

    Keep it up!

I like it, but in my opinion the gears get too blurry and his shirt could use a more distinct pattern of lines. Right now they look like brush strokes which is very strange. It makes the shirt seem like an odd shapeless blob in places. However, in other spots on the shirt, the texture is done well (the collar and the right (his left) shoulder)

Failed? I think this is your most successful piece yet honestly. I love the color and it feels a lot less 'random because I don't know what I am doing' and much more 'random because I know what I am doing'.
