Those stupid 360 avatars

I liked the old Xbox 360 Dashboard. I really did. It was simple, I knew where all my stuff was. It looked all "futuristic." And it displayed my Crimson Skies skins beautifully.

I don't mind the new look (I'm a bit behind, just downloaded it a few weeks ago), but I cannot stand the avatars. I know it's a simple thing, and it's no big deal really.

But man, those avatars really annoy me. I do not want to be represented online as a cartoony person with a bubble head and lego facial features.

Is there any way, that I haven't found yet, to turn off my avatar? A bunch of topics on Google just say that I will be able to hide my avatar, but these are from before the update went live and are of little actual help.

I hope I'm understanding the question correctly, so correct me if I'm wrong. I created an avatar back when I first downloaded the update but elected not to use the picture taking option to set my avatar as my profile pic. So when I look at my profile on say xbox.com it still shows my Psychonauts picture. Is this what you're after? As that can be done. I'd have to fire up the 360 to recall how to do that.

If you mean hide your avatar from others (i.e., if they look you up in their Friends "tab" or whatever they're called now), I don't think that's possible. You don't need to use the avatar for your gamerpic though.

Yeah, I don't have my avatar as my gamer pic. I just don't want an avatar period. From what I've been reading elsewhere, there is no option to "turn off" your avatar.

Boourns, I say. If I wanted a Sim, I would have gotten a Wii. Or The Sims.

I have managed to remain avatarless, but only because I never created one in the first place. Every once and a while it pesters me to create one. I just hit the guide button and quit to the dashboard, leaving me with a shadow person.

So, create a new profile but don't make an avatar?

See I would have done that. But my "shadow" avatar was of a teeny bopper female. Which annoyed me even more.

Guess I'll just have to suck it up.

    I dont even notice it.

He just kinda sits there on a few screens.

Its not like Commander Shepard or Niko Bellic were replaced by it.
