dustbowl is a really well designed map that flows incredibly well. you can put up a monster defense and still lose with a well organized push. but at the same time it's harder to pure steamroll teams. it happens but not as bad as some other maps.
that being said probably half my playtime has been on dustbowl and im pretty sick of it.

I kinda hate Gravel Pit, and oddly it used to be one of my favorites. It just seems like A is a throwaway point, B is where the real action is, and if they take B with any more than a minute or two to go C is a throwaway as well (though not as bad as A). Basically half the map is redundant.
Badlands I love, it's just a whole different game. I think people get sick of the scout rushes and the eventual grind at point 4/5 that it turns into more often than not. It's kinda like Granary, but without as much built-in momentum to help the winning team seal the deal.
And the reason we play Dustbowl, Gold Rush, and Badwater all day is because each map takes so damn long, and for obvious reasons they're set to round limits and not time limits. Whereas the others are set to time limits and round limits, which tends to make them go by far too quickly.

I think the only two I don't like are fastlane and 2fort. And I actually kinda like 2fort. What ever happened to the 1-cap-per-round matches we were doing, where we'd do three of them? I liked that.
I wouldn't know how to do it off the top of my head, since scripting is basically cheating. Cheaters.

Dustbowl is one of the better maps because it can be quick and has nearly instant action. It's also balanced well to most classes, I think that Scouts have it the hardest (on Offense, at least). The problem is that because its one of the better maps it gets played too often, which makes people sick of it. I too have spent 50% of my TF2 time on Dustbowl and I'm not sick of the map, I'm just bored with it. Heavy rules that map and while it's fun to dominate it gets old after a while.
The game really needs more Dustbowl/Gravelpit type maps. Yeah we just got Egypt but it's poo poo compared to Dustbowl.

All PL versions of dustbowl are terriblyawfulbad.

I need to hear positive points about Granary and Well. Don't know about Granary, but Well was an awesome TFC map, and I feel like there needs to be a custom one designed closer to Classic's. If there is it must suck.

A is only a throw away point if you make it that way.
I know several legit A defenses, ones that shut down all capping of A and they're forced to try out B. Then you have 70% head to B through tunnels while yea I'm done speaking my secrets to you Gravelpit-A-none-believers! Just believe me when you can win gpit without anything capped, it's just a matter of keeping A locked down and buying you enough time to confuse the enemy's main path.
McAllen: granary is one of the best sold/demo maps. I love it also.
Hahahaaha. the only thing missing is that the engineer and scout's head bobbing around. Ugh, I forget the name of that meme. Where 3 dudes are in a car, REALLY ENJOYING their music and bobbing their heads around in time with the music. Okay, maybe we don't want a TF2 version of this, i'm just saying

Thanks! That one came about while I was trying to make a wheeled robot. That turned into a gokart. That turned into Super Fortress Kart. The kart actually drives too.

It's not quick because you at the very least have to play through six different stages or half an hour (it's 15 mins on the clock to start stage 1 IIRC), but what team holds the other to the 1st point and then can't take it themselves? So really, the only time it's *relatively* quick is when you get ganked by some scout/spy capping your second one right away when you're dead or too far up to block the cap. In short, the only time it's somewhere approaching short is when you get fucked over.
Dustbowl is a decent, overhyped, overvalued, overplayed, overlong map.
