Before nerf: Scouts argue that their ability to 1on1 any class with stun is balanced. You shouldn't be alone at any time. This is team fortress!

After nerf: Scouts complain that you need teamwork to kill stunned enemies.

Because in every situation ever you are always always always with another person. Scouts never out run their teammates and wind up in a 1 on 1 situation ever. I've forgotten all of this, thank you for reminding me of how stupid you are.

    Sandman was fine.

Sniper headshots do a set amount of damage. It appears to be insta-kill since it tends to be far more than your base HP (except heavies, because fuck heavies).

No, no they don't. They scale up the damage you would have done already. Hence, fully charged headshots will kill an overhealed heavy and uncharged headshots will not even kill an overhealed sniper.

Call me crazy, but when I first heard about tf2, the one thing I agreed with that was talked about was that there would be NO weapons that took away control from the player.

Let me say that again--valve said that nothing would take away your ability to react to changing situations. No stunning.

The last 2 updates have added weapons that slowed and now stunned. The exact opposite of fun to me.

I know this has definitely been talked out, but it just irked me that they would change the design philosophy of the game like that.

I mean, that was part of the reason they took out concs.

So how far is the minimum distance would you say?

Also, I think I totally fucking called it. A while back I mentioned talking to kinder about possibly adding a minimum distance to counter the issue of point blank Scout ambushes.

I don't mind so much if the Sandman is tweaked to prevent Scouts from killing people 1v1 with it. But in exchange it has to be a better support weapon. Say, 5 second cooldown with a lower duration. Also instead of the third person stun bullshit it should snare you to spinning heavy speed and disable your weapon.

I keep trying to point out to everyone that Valve deliberately put in things too powerful to start with and nerf down to balance. That is their policy. So I don't know why people're acting like it was probably fine, because it probably wasn't.

Indeed. You would get way more complaints if they added items then improved them to balance.

Upgrade an item, every other class player complains / questions.
Downgrade an item, only that class player complains / questions.

Not that I'm saying Valve only change things so they get less complaints. It just makes more sense.

TF2 players don't really like obligations though, from the looks of it. :P

    I'm pretty sure you're mistaken.

But then again I've heard they said they wouldn't do slow down effects or things that take control away form the player, although I'm not sure where.

That's most likely just a rumor. Quoting myself from earlier in this thread:
    Gnomocide wrote: »
So I've heard the "Valve once said they were against taking control from the player!" claim often in Sandman-discussions, but I'm quite sure they've never said it. If anyone could find the original source, please link it. Until then, please don't use that "quote" unless you can provide a link to valve saying it, as I believe they've never said it.

The closest thing to it I've been able to find was in the HL2 commentary, and that was about taking player control away during cutscenes - and had nothing to do with multiplayer gaming.

I don't think they've ever said anything like it - but quite a few people are dead certain they have. A link would clear it all up, but so far nobody has been able to provide one.

So for now, I think it's rather safe to say that Valve never said they were against taking control from the player in TF2.

Which is great, because the sandman rocks 8-)

Ah man I haven't been keeping up with that Steampowered thread, those RPG mock-ups really are awesome

As for the Sandman, it's typical that I unlock it on the eve of the nerf, bah. Best part is, it still seems pretty functional so I dread to think how potent it would've been pre-patch.

So I logged in on a friend's accout and it updated his game. I saw that nerf to the sandman and just sighed. I don't use the sandman because I refuse to let go of double jump. The stun has its uses but it only truly shines when you incorporate it with another weapon, or preferably another team mate. Now it is useless novelty crap. Also, that bat makes the worst fucking sound in the known universe.

Fuck stupid class packs this shit is ruining the game.

Also Zek anyone can play scout on Dustbowl it isn't that hard although attacking is harder opposed to defending.

Nah that's a very negative outlook. Just play the game and have fun. If your team has 5 scouts on DB and you're attacking I can see why you might get upset, but I always do alright attacking on the first two points. Point three of course its silly to be a scout.

Also I don't think the goal of the update was to make the scout more useful. If it was they missed it by a very, very long shot.
