I can't find the dev quote about valve not wanting to remove player control, but that's no suprise considering it was several years ago on an immensely popular game. And I am not going to shift through several hundred google pages to find it.
I did however find several other references to it on other forums, so obviously it did exist since there are a good majority of people who remember it.
I remember the official forums had a topic asking for a direct quote about that statement. No one could find it. Interesting that a quote about a popular can't be found on the Internet, the great and wonderful archival tool.
Besides, you lose control in a lot more situations than the sandman. It's a silly thing to say.
Because it's been 2 years, and people talk about TF2 a lot?
If I *really* wanted to I am sure I could find it. But I don't really feel like digging through several hundred google pages to find it, just to increase my e-cred.
Meh, it doesn't really matter if they said it or didn't.
It's how the game is now.
I can deal with the sandman in every situation except it stunning you out of uber; which is not only bullshit, it doesn't even make the slightest bit of sense.
I tried logging onto one of the PA servers a few times today, but my movement was constantly hampered by what seemed like lag (but wasn't, according to my ping) and when switching between active weapons, be it through mousewheel, number binding or quick switch, the change often wouldn't go through. I was playing just fine on some public servers between attempts.
Also, I'm frequently getting stuck between character selection and actually getting into the game.
Any complaints about the stun from the sandman are inflated because of the hugely increased scout population. When the numbers die back down, it will be far less frequent, and thus far less annoying. It will be situational, and odds are if you aren't a medic or a heavy or being ubered you probably wont be stunned more than once a round.

It seems like the 50% damage decrease would completely neuter the stun of any use what-so-ever. At least, to me. It'll still be funny to see a guy stunned, but he'll still probably kill you if you get one on one.
ITT scouts complain about not being able to dominate everything
Where are all the screen shots of scouts topping the scoreboard?
As always, the best way to top out the scoreboard is to win 1-on-1 fights.
In other news, I finally got around to trying out egypt and watchtower. Valve should be embarrassed. Talk about half-assed choices to tie to your game.
Everything is too busy to handle my request. Man that's fucking annoying.

Winning 1 on 1 fights is not dominating. Being the top scorer on the team is dominating. In this one instance, yes, score does matter. Because winning 1-on-1 doesn't get you far in a team game. But scoring a lot of points usually means you're winning.
You get to the top of the scoreboard by being the best all around player.
Which a scout hardly ever is.
Alternatively the person with a medic riding their dick the whole round.
And that's NEVER a scout.
or the medic that is smart enough to switch between people and latch on to whoever is launching bullets at the right time. nothing is greater than kritzing a demo and having him blow up 6 people, then switching to the soldier that just ran in and getting another 2 assists.
Scouts never top score boards in attack/defend because they don't have another source of income to make up for the fact that they don't have the fire power or the medic love to get a shit load of points killing stuff. The bonus points thing kinda helps, but its tricky to kill a medic without him switching off his medigun some how. Spies and Snipers get double points for doing their thing. Medics and Engy's have passive sources of points.
Since there's not a lot of flags to cap or points to take in attack defend, the scout kinda loses his point income.
tldr Scout should get points for damage absorbed with Bonk
Scouts should get points for every second they stay alive because seriously, scouts don't last long with 125hp
:T
i disagree, you just need to know when to fight or flight. Most of the time if you get in trouble as a scout, you can just dodge a couple times and run away to grab health. All depends on the class and situation though, my survivability for scout is better than most classes somehow, it's weird.

My survivability for the scout got a lot better when I started using Bonk as a "get out of jail free" card.

Same. The scout's ability to just leave and get health (quickly, woo run speed+doublejump) is rather underrated. Especially on larger spawntimer maps, taking potshots then bolting for health can be quite effective.

Another big problem is if you are flighting too much, and basically become a waste of a player slot.
Some folks are so concerned with their k:dr that you will see them running back to health packs more than actually fighting or accomplishing anything. Not to mention they are taking all the health packs.

Psh fuck double jumping. Stunning people and running away is where it's at.

or they just want to stay alive.
they're just smart and realize, "Taking this health while fighting this guy will grant me a boost and take away any chances of his ass getting it."
I do admit though, nothing is more aggravating than a scout stealing health packs left and right, when they are only missing like 15 health. I used to play on a team with a guy that did that. I won't mention names though O_O
Scouts don't need extra points for anything, killing people is what they do. They can't top the scoreboard on Dustbowl and Gold Rush because they still aren't remotely good enough on those maps. Even the pre-nerf Sandman wasn't really doing the trick.

I scored 10 points as spy in one round tonight on the PA servers! So pumped. Of course, the previous hour of playing spy on said servers resulted me dying on an average of 5-10 seconds.
Don't know why it takes spy so long for me to get in a groove. I can suck as a sniper for 10 minutes maybe before getting the hang of it again, but spies seem to have a higher chance of running into 'fuck you' moments (ie- turning a corner into a pyro randomly shooting flame, turning a corner into...you know what, turning a corner period. Fucking other team always seems to decide to come around my hallway shooting the second I decide to move down it).

You should take corners wide whenever possible to avoid bumping into people. Random BS happens sometimes but more often than not you can avoid it if you minimize your risk properly.

This. Corners will fuck you up a lot, but if you can take the route no one else does, or just avoid tight spaces entirely, you'll be much more effective.
Ironically, you very much do want tight spaces when you're using the revolver. It does quite a bit of damage, and if you're in a simple trading bodyshots firefight, you'll actually win a lot of the time. Especially with pyros that are juuuust out of flame range, strafing on either side is the enemy.

See, what usually happens is I hide behind the corner first to catch people coming out. Then, when a patch of time's gone by when noone comes out I figure I'll go in the corridor to the next area figuring this one's not trafficked.
It's at that point when a guy is right there and ventilates me. I usually don't even get to bump into people, they're just firing for no reason (I'm normally cloaked and I make sure I don't round the corner until I'm sure I'm cloaked).

You don't lose control. You can still shoot.
I think I will have to make my album private for a couple of days so I can compose my OP.
