NXE becomes mandatory on the 360, new games force update
Hope you like the Xiis, because Microsoft is no longer giving you a choice to go back to the blades.
Microsoft's New Xbox Experience is to become a compulsory part of the Xbox 360 in the near future, with games to soon ship with the firmware update on-disc.
The move will mark an end for the blade system employed by all consoles up until the launch of the New Xbox Experience last year, and the first games to include the update will be HAWX, released this Friday, and MLB: 2K9.
In order to run the games it will be necessary to install the updated firmware, and Microsoft will no longer be supporting the old blade system.
Personally I don't think it's that big a deal, since NXE works well enough.
Likewise. I've been quite pleased overall with NXE thusfar. I kind of suspect there's some motivation by Microsoft beyond "USE OUR NEW SOFTWARE WE PUT WORK INTO IT DAMMIT!", and perhaps something along the lines a new standard or cutting down on online cheating or the like.
I'm actually kind of surprised they hadn't already done it. Maybe they'd been waiting for everyone who didn't have HDD to get that memory card deal they were offering.
All the updates have been exactly this way, because everyone on Live has to have the same version of the software and the fact that it just makes sense.
I don't know why IGN are going super crazy about the 'forcing it on you' angle. Do people hate the NXE that much?

The motivation is that NXE actively encourages people to get online and buy stuff. Microsoft reported their online sales went up after it was released.
I'm sure there's one or two people out there who still hate NXE, considering nerd raaaaaaage at its announcement.

If the number of people who put far too much time into customizing their Avatars (myself included) are any sign, no, I don't think so.

I was wondering which games would be the first to come with this update.
LIZ: Different.
VOICE-OVER: It's September 24th, I'm Liz Parker and five days ago I died. But then the really amazing thing happened. I came to life.
