Computer troubles, beebs and blacks.

So I woke up the other day to my wife's computer yelling at me. The screen had shut itself off, and the computer was sending morse code at me. 3 consecutive beeps, followed by a pause and a single beep.

While beeping the keyboard lights were flashing.

Tried restarting a few times, and got held up. Overclocking error, and Checksum Bad, kept showing up in the DoS runs.

After restarting it once or twice again, we heard this horrible noise. It kinda sounded like someone using a circular saw in the distance. We found the source of it, the secondary hard drive, and just removed it. Never put anything on it anyway.

This solved the overclock/checksum problem, but not the soon to be found other problem.

Now, the computer seems to start up fine, gets into windows and everything great. After being on for about 5 minutes though, it just shuts itself off and dose the morse code crap again. Keyboard lights still flashing.

The way its working, makes me think its an overheating problem, but the computer itself seems to be getting great ventilation. Maybe the power supply could be overheating? I'm not sure.

Unfortunately, I really don't know where to start looking. I've never heard of computers sending morse code, or morse code-like signals.

I don't have all her specs on hand, I could get them, but here is what I do know.

When booting up it say American Megatrends.
3.2Ghz processor
1.5 GB of DDR2 RAM
Windows XP home.

I bought the computer for her, in 2006 for WoW purposes. We don't play WoW anymore, so its really just an internet machine, so it shouldn't be under a lot of stress.

The morse code is being put out by your motherboard. Here is a list of codes:

I don't see 3, 1 in the table though. If it's 1 beep, then 3, then your RAM is bad or loose, which could cause your problems.

In an attempt to reproduce the beeping to confirm, the computer simply restarted itself this time, instead of crashing like before...

Finally got the beeps to reproduce. its actually 2 beeps and then 5. Very clearly 2 then 5. with like 2 seconds between them, and 8 seconds between the sets.

I'm not seeing a 2, 5 combo in that list though.
