So if I put my GSM phone within 5 feet of my speakers I get a really wierd sound, like... errrr ugugugugug Slhyeeerrrrrr. It only happens when the phone is trasmitting. How can I stop this becides turning the phone off or keeping it on the other side of the room?

Yeah, distance is the only thing that work.

I have to keep my cell far away from my phone at work because it will do this at random.

Is it only GSM phones, or do CDMA phones do this as well?

I had this problem and didn't know what was causing it. It creeped me the fuck out. Every so often my computer speakers would do this Morse-code sounding sort of buzz, followed by one single extended screeching buzz. I seriously thought I was having auditory hallucinations.

I never gave thought to the fact that my PC speakers sit directly over the desk drawer where I keep my phone, every single day, without fail. I went almost a year and a half before realizing that was the cause of the problem. A year and a half of thinking that I was certifiably nuts.
