anybody have any particularly interesting custom classes?

so far I've created like a ranger, a paladin and a mage-thief. Pretty sweet dudes.

I made what I'd call a Ranger using the ranger mod for Oblivion... I don't remember the skills, but it was along the lines of stealth, marksman, alchemy, athletics, and some other stuff. The Ranger mod is what made it, though. Adding in an animal companion and all of the ranger spells/abilities (or along those lines) from 3E made it amusing.

i've always loved mage-thief type dealios. i think i'll make another but have a different idea in mind... man bumping this thread always makes me go "jam son i should start that game up again (and actually finish it)". i always get to the oblivion gates and kind of peter off just messing around.

i am also considering just clearing everything i have oblivion-wise (it is a mess of mods nowadays) and start fresh with new, updated mods.

is there anything that improves the idea of poisoned items? it was cool but it felt tougher than i wanted it to be to get any poisons, really. guess it just took high alchemy to see multiple effects.

I've tried it myself, making poisons stronger and more varied, but it's kind of hard-coded. So your options are to do something illegal and summon the Bethesda assassins, or have to download a massive sized mod to alter every single poison. And it would only then affect the ones built into vanilla.

I wish more people would read the pinned topics on TESNexus. Now that Oblivion is out for cheap, the forums are getting flooded with topics of "i just bought this and i want to install mods how?". There's a post for that three inches up the screen!

Just checking the CS now.. Daedric is the most powerful. The armor starts dropping at around 20 and weapons around 22.

I got Daggerfall (Andyfall) running in DOSbox on my Macbook Pro. Frame rate seems to tank occasionally (tips?). More worrying: I made a High Elf with Absorbs Magic. The second door I opened revealed an imp that killed me instantly with what looked like Fire. Clearly I misunderstood something here. D:

Glass/Daedric appears at 20, which is also the level required for the last 3 Daedric shrine quests, so that's the magic number.

My Daggerfall knowledge is a bit rusty, but "Magic" in the context of "Absorbs Magic" would absorb stuff like debilitating spells that do things like damage stats and health. Anything that doesn't have an element attached to it.

I don't have any past experience with it, but I assume the process would be to delete the game through steam (right click the game on library and click 'Delete Local Content...'), then go to your steamapps\common folder (probably something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\"), and delete the oblivion folder there. Then go to your windows My Games folder and delete/back up whatever you want there (probably not necessary, but eh, might as well be thorough). Then download the game again.

Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone. There are a bunch of mods out there that change it, though. One of the spoilers in the OP contains links to some of the more popular ones for Oblivion. For Morrowind, I tend to use Madd Leveler, and Galsiah's Character Development is also pretty popular.

The same also happens if you installed it from the disk, the uninstallers don't just delete the entire folder, its only what was installed by them, so anything you've added into the folder will remain.

it just seems against the spirit of the game. Here let me plan my guy out from the begining, find a dude to hit me until block levels up so many times, while this levels up so many times then go sleep s.o I can get the +5 points to those stats instead of just stuff you use more getting stronger organically.

and I'm currently playing on xbox so I can't correct this with mods.

Little tip for those with ATI/AMD cards and Oblivion. You can enable HDR and use anti-aliasing at the same time.

What you need to do is (of course) have HDR enabled in the game, but in catalyst control center (or ati tray tools or whatever you use) force the antialiasing level you want and set the Catalyst AI to standard (it's called low in ATT). This will enable the chuck tweak, ATI implemented this around the 6.7 drivers iirc.

The only downside that I know of is that if someone is using chameleon/invisibility the distortion effect of the character can still be seen if they go behind a wall. (i've no idea if ATI are aware of this)

Also, if you want relatively responsive mouse control using ati tray tools you can set the flip queue size to 0 or 1 to get rid of the input lag (called render ahead frames in nvidia parlance).

    Pretty much.

Daggerfall's a decent game to play, see what it's all about for historic context and see what it did right and wrong compared to later Bethsoft games, tool around a bit, and then put it down and never touch it again.

I say this as someone who has probably put more hours into Daggerfall and Morrowind than any other game by a very wide margin. Considering I've played mostly MMOs for the past twelve years, that's saying a bit.

I'm doing the thieves guild after doing the mages guild.

Then I have to go and steal something from the arch mage.

    Me.

I have to go steal something from myself for the thieves guild quest. I wasnt even recognized as the Arch Mage, even though at that point I was wearing the Arch Mage robes and hood. and had a student mage following me

I think its kind of absurd that I can't use the fact that I'm the Grey Fox, Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Arch Mage, and Master of the Fighters Guild anywhere in the main quest.

Like, I wish during allies for Bruma I could also call upon the fighters guild as master, and the mages as Arch Mage, to bolster the defense.

Could be announced today actually. Right before E3 bethesda said it was more likely that they would announce their next project at Quake Con than E3. I am hoping we get an announcement for elderscrolls 5 today.

If they want to do an mmo separate to a normal elder scrolls like Square does with Final Fantasy I'd be perfectly happy. But if they went and said "yep, Elder Scrolls 5.. it's an mmo! Surprise!" then i'd be pretty peeved.

I grabbed the deluxe edition off the Steam sale, since I only ever bought the base game (boxed version). Should I bother with FCOM at all or just go with Francesco's? FCOM seems like a giant pain in the ass. I believe I tried to get it working before but eventually just went with Francesco's.

So far I've downloaded the following mods:

    Better Cities 4.6
    Open Better Cities
    Natural Environments
    Unique Landscape Compilation
    Alternative Start
    Tamriel NPCs Revamped
Tamriel NPCs Revamped - Shivering Isles
    Tamriel Travelers
    Deadly Reflux Combat Moves
    Symphony of Violence
    DarNified UI
    Elven Map Redux
    Ren's Beauty Pack
    Companion - Neeshka
    Companion - Vilja

    FCOM
    Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul
    Francesco's
    Mart's Mutant Mod
    Warcry

Browsing the Nexus looking for mods is daunting. I think I've grabbed the cream of the crop, though, or have I missed some good ones?

Just reinstalled Oblivion, a couple of thoughts.

    1) I forgot how difficult it was to make your character not look retarded. Every race seems to have caveman lips and/or old woman's face. Hopefully Bethesda spends a little more time on the face textures in 5.

    2) Apparently my existing FCOM installation files won't work with the new installation, no matter how hard I try. Did anyone ever get the mod authors to play nice so that the FCOM author could release a complete mod, or do you still have to dig up old versions of like 5 mods to get it to work? Because, seriously? Fuck ever going through that again.
