career training help

Short version: I want to get training oriented towards a specific field or job in less than a year. how do I do this?

Long version: so, I'm pretty close to graduating from college with a degree in philosophy. I'll have my degree, and a pretty constant string of employment for the past five years. All my jobs have been easy part time things that have no real merit. I'd like to be able to get a job and support myself, and feel like I will need some actual career oriented skills to do that. I already tried going to the career center on campus, and they just gave me some resume writing tips. I'd like to be able to get some training in less than a year, largely because I won't be able to live off my savings for too long.

I thought I'd look into getting certified as a paralegal. But that usually takes a year to do. There's a six week paralegal program at a nearby college, but it isn't ABA approved, and it costs about $7,000.

My parents recommend I get a teaching certificate. which also takes a year, and would probably drive me absolutely crazy.

the only other things I can find that require less than a year of training are air conditioner repair (really not something I want to do), masseuse (really not that comfortable with strangers), or CDL training (not too bad, but little opportunity for advancement or ever using my degree).

I was hoping someone might be able to recommend me something I could get training in, or even just a place to start looking.

Are you just looking to acquire job skills to support yourself?

Do you have a grander goal?

You said you'd be dissatisfied with a situation where you wouldn't be able to use your degree. Is there something you'd like to use it for (law school? my understanding is that philosophy degrees are hard to turn into careers but can be great building blocks for further studies).

The grand scheme is to go to grad school, for either law or an MPA. I would like to take a year off from school though, mostly to decompress, but also to gain residency in the state in which I plan to go to grad school. so you see, training that takes a year would defeat the purpose of taking a year off. I could just do like many of my friends and get a manager position at whatever retailer or food joint is hiring.

I have a stock answer for situations like these:

    Americorps

In short, it's a national service program that pays a stipend, offers an education award (about 5 grand), and looks great on a resume.

If you have questions about it, feel free to PM me.

With no other criteria given there's EMS. Basic EMT is 6 hours, intermediate is 9 hours, paramedic is, like, 3 semesters.
